UC Berkeley battling to shut down Milo’s Free Speech Week featuring Pamela Geller

“Yiannopoulos also said his company, MILO, Inc., transferred $65,758.76 to the university to arrive by Monday morning. The statement maintained that MILO, Inc., was not able to send the payment on Friday as the contract was given to Berkeley Patriot after close-of-business on the east coast. Dan Mogulof, a university spokesman, told Fox News on Monday that the money would be refunded because it missed the deadline. He also defended the deadline as necessary for campus police to prepare for ‘potential criminal activity.’”

The university is playing games. Obviously university officials did all they could to ensure that the Berkeley Patriot missed the deadline. And any “potential criminal activity” will come not from the Berkeley Patriot or any of the speakers, but from the leftist fascists the university breeds and encourages.

We will not be deterred. See you in Berkeley next week.

“Berkeley ‘Free Speech Week’ lineup includes Bannon, Milo: Here’s the schedule,” by Kaitlyn Schallhorn, Fox News, September 18, 2017:

A week before a University of California, Berkeley student group is set to host its “Free Speech Week” with a controversial speaker lineup, college administrators and students are still locked in a battle over logistics.

The university first said the student group hosting the talks, called “Berkeley Patriot,” failed to submit “the necessary payments” to secure two auditoriums. It also noted that Berkeley Patriot only signed the appropriate contracts for the venues “at the last minute.”

“In spite of support provided by campus staff and administration to these students, the student organization fell short of what is minimally required by standing policies and standard contracts that apply to every other student organization on the Berkeley campus with regard to their tentative reservations at these two venues,” UC Berkeley said in a press release Saturday.

Milo Yiannopoulos, former Breitbart editor and rightwing provocateur, said the event will “still occur as scheduled” on campus, in a statement to Fox News Monday. Yiannopoulos also said his company, MILO, Inc., transferred $65,758.76 to the university to arrive by Monday morning.

The statement maintained that MILO, Inc., was not able to send the payment on Friday as the contract was given to Berkeley Patriot after close-of-business on the east coast.

Dan Mogulof, a university spokesman, told Fox News on Monday that the money would be refunded because it missed the deadline. He also defended the deadline as necessary for campus police to prepare for “potential criminal activity.”

UC Berkeley shelled out about $600,000 for security when conservative commentator Ben Shapiro spoke on campus last week. An additional $600,000 was spent in April for Ann Coulter’s visit – which ended up being cancelled, a university spokesman confirmed to Fox News.

But still, Berkeley Patriots and Yiannopoulos have accused Berkeley of attempting to “force its students to cancel” the event.

But while the exact venue of next week’s “Free Speech Week” is still up in the air, Berkeley Patriot released its confirmed speakers and topics list for Sept. 24 to Sept. 27 – which is notably different from the schedule of events provided by the university. UC Berkeley’s schedule does not include Coulter or Steve Bannon.

“UC Berkeley does not determine our speaker program. We do. They are attempting to suggest to the press that our headliners will no longer be appearing,” Yiannopoulos told Fox News.

Read on to see who Berkeley Patriots say will be speaking at the college campus.

Sunday, September 24 – Feminism Awareness Day

Sunday’s event will explore “the impact of feminism on free expression” and if it’s “good for freedom, for women and for society,” Berkeley Patriots said.

Tuesday, September 26 – Islamic Peace & Tolerance

On Tuesday, the speakers will examine “the compatibility of Islam and Western values,” Berkeley Patriot said on the event page. It also said Europe has been led into “Islamization,” and the event will explore if the U.S. will do the same.

– Katie Hopkins; British columnist

– Erik Prince; founder of Blackwater, a private military company

He also defended the deadline as necessary for campus police to prepare for “potential criminal activity.”

And I will hazard a guess that this simply gave UCB a convenient excuse to do what they wanted to do anyway. It would be interesting to know how they have responded in similar situations in the past, if there have been any that could be called similar.

When one recognizes the serious problems this planet’s inhabitants are facing from the issues facing most of us from North Korea, Iran, Russia, China, the continuing Israeli/Arab stand off, the continuing anti-Semitism that seems to exist world wide, violent Jihadi Islam, the problem existing here as occurring in St. Louis, the violent action of those groups that have as their goal the denial of free speech from anyone who does not agree with them, the failure of the U.N. to act responsibly and reasonably, it should be obvious that this world is heading down an abyss in which we all will be “eaten alive.” Obviously, I have a very pessimistic view of the present state of affairs; yet, now as I predicted, our Constitutional right to speak out and choose to be non-violently critical of certain philosophies are being taken from us much to our everlasting chagrin, and the pain that we face is becoming more egregious. Though I expected this response from the Berkeley administration, and I can understand their underlying concern for “safety” on their campus, I still find it very sad that speaking out one’s thoughts in a non-violent way, subjects one to the danger of harm from those out there who would commit harm, and as a result these over-zealous people are removing from us the Constitutional right to speak out and express ones non-violent views. Though I believe that to give into these violent protesters is totally wrong, and I continue to hope that they are stopped from terminating the ability of the speakers to speak out, I am mortified that things have gotten so out of control. I hope we, the right and reasonable thinking people, all understand our dilemma, and support our given Constitutional rights.

If the university did not treat the leftist thugs like heroes and announced any rioter/protester would be expelled and prosecuted to the full extent of the law, they would not be going broke having to hire a small army to protect speakers leftists disagree with.

  • AlgorithmicAnalyst

The Free Speech movement at Berkeley in the 1960s had its roots in the loyalty oath issue of the 1950s (which Berkeley professors were forced to sign).

  • Poppey

“Featuring Pamela Geller”, come on, I would have thought Steve Bannon would have had that accolade.

    • RalphB

I guess you are unfamiliar with promotional language. There is “starring” and then there is “featuring” and “including”.

Free speech week obviously stars Milo. It features everybody else on the agenda, including Bannon, Coulter, Horowitz, Geller, and the other ‘name’ speakers. Persons with bit parts — introducers, etc. — are included.

  • Halal Boycott will end Islam

I was talking to a leftist student in the pub last night, and I told him that he will think differently after 20 years of work and taxes.

And he said, “yeah, I’m aware that I probably will, but…”.

It’s almost as if they know it’s just a phase they’re going through. We need more Milos to give the naive more options.

Milo is a fake. He is NOT a conservative. He’s a sexual pervert and an abomination. He claims to be a good guy, while he publicly spews profane filth, and lives a life of depravity. People should think twice before getting behind this vile, vulgar individual.
    Bad company ruins good character.

  • Both are proud conservative Jews willing to speak the truth in an increasingly uncertain world!

My wish is for Pamela, all the other speakers, and the students who wish to hear them speak are and remain safe throughout the week. We all know Antifa and other hate groups will be out in full force…..
