Trump Defends Sessions: ‘The Democrats Are Overplaying Their Hand’

13

President Donald Trump took to Twitter to issue some scathing assessments of Democrats who’ve taken up a new target, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and to warn the liberal base: You’re not only off-base. You’re “overplaying” your party’s hand.

The tweets come as Sessions announced he would recuse himself from any federal investigation into alleged Russian influence of the November elections.

Sessions said: “I have decided to recuse myself from any existing or future investigations of any matters related in any way to the campaigns for president of the United States.”

He also said, in an interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson, that he would submit a “supplement” to the congressional testimony in which he was asked about meetings with the Russian ambassador to the United States. Sessions then said he didn’t meet with the ambassador, in context of answering questions about discussing the presidential campaign and a possible Trump White House.

Democrats have now taken that statement to show Sessions lied, saying he did in fact meet with the Russian ambassador on at least two occasions – once in his Senate office, and once in an impromptu meet at a think tank event in Washington, D.C.

At the same time, the meetings took place when Session was a senator, and a member of the Armed Services Committee, which requires meetings with dignitaries and diplomats and ambassadors from around the world. In fact, Sessions also met with dozens of other ambassadors in his senate office during the same time frame.

The big question focuses on what Sessions discussed with the Russian ambassador. Sessions said the talks were all related to his senate duties; Democrats allege he spoke of campaign issues.

And because Sessions did not mention in his testimony to the Senate that he met with the Russian ambassador at these two specific times, the Democrats said he was obviously trying to hide something – and that something was talk of the president’s campaign.

As yet, no proof exists.

But Sessions, in order to calm the storm, has recused himself from all future investigations of the 2016 election as it relates to possible Russian influence.

And now Trump has come forward to shame the media and left for partisan and senseless attacks, and to commend Sessions for his honesty and integrity.

In a series of tweets, Trump wrote:

“Jeff Sessions is an honest man. He did not say anything wrong. He could have stated his response more accurately, but it was clearly not …”

And next: “…intentional. This whole narrative is a way of saving face for Democrats losing an election that everyone thought they were supposed …”

And the next: “…to win. The Democrats are overplaying their hand. They lost the election, and now they have lost their grip on reality. The real story …”

And finally: “…is all of the illegal leaks of classified and other information. It is a total ‘witch hunt!'”

Pamela Geller's shocking new book, "FATWA: HUNTED IN AMERICA" is now available on Amazon. It's Geller's tell all, her story - and it's every story - it's what happens when you stand for freedom today. Buy it. Now. Here.

The deep state wants to keep Trump and Sessions tied up because they know what is coming. They are planning and plotting at a furious pace so get ready for some turbulence.

    • Mark Steiner

It is past due time that the Trump Administration Justice Department and Attorney General go one the offensive against Obama and Hillary for crimes against the United States.

      • Bust their balls Donald!

EXACTLY right! Same for the IRS targeting people (no doubt at the direction of Oblabber). Same for the Attorney Generals under Oblabber. Congress and the WH should put some independent investigators/prosecutors to to work feverishly on taking down BHO, HRC, and all the rest of the criminals they associated with, including most of the DemonRAT congress. Put them on defense so the Rs can get done what we elected them to do.

        • Mark Steiner

Mr. Trump has to lead forcefully, because the RINOs, even on a good day, are often too wimpy to take a stand on the side of right. At some point the President will have to lay down the law to vacillating Republican congresspeople.

  • Joseph Guerra

Why does no one look into Chinese influence with Clinton?

  • Robinske2

Republicans are getting a lesson on what a minority party can do if it has it’s operatives in control of most news outlets. They can create a mob mentality figuratively with torches and pitchforks to “Bring justice” to the guilty.

    • Mark Steiner

Republicans are also – hopefully – learning that staid, indecisive leadership in Congress cannot and will not prevail against a determined effort by the far Left, aided by an MSM ally – who does not know truth if it stared them in the face.

You aren’t hearing a peep out of Mitch McConnell, RINOs and others positioned to stand up for right.

      • Robinske2

Exactly- the biggest problem is that Washington Republicans are either secretly aligned with Dems or are too scared of the media to stand up for their fellow Republicans. If Republicans stood united against Democrat warfare, the Dems would be flailing and looking like idiots. The Dem controlled media can always find a Republican or two that will turn on their own members for a few moments in the liberal media sun.

        • Mark Steiner

Yes – like John McCain, the reprobate Senator from Arizona.

  • Voytek Gagalka

Howling that it is a “witch hunt” is not enough! ATTACK the DemocRat bastards so they will not be able to breath or see what strikes them. Unveil all power of justice system against THEM. Why Hillary still walks free? Why Jarrett? Why Obama himself on that matter? They all have blood on their hands, sent BILLIONS to enemy, exposed state secrets, cost lives of the soldiers. Mr. Trump, what in hell are you waiting for? ATTACK!!! If you fail to do so, start packing because THEY will never stop in goal to destroy you!

  • LR

To borrow their word, Mr. President, it’s time to RESIST! No more giving in to this witch hunt. No more resignations & recusals. They will continue to attack each and ever member of our new administration if we let them.

  • Mahou Shoujo

Fight fire with fire, charge o’bimbo and hillary with treason, embezzlement and perjury.

  • Drew the Infidel

Trump was correct in his assessment that the commiecrats are overplaying their hand. The US citizens, of whatever political stripe, want the childish bickering to end and the nation’s business addressed. With the leftward drift indicated by the DNC’s selection of Peres and Ellison to lead it, they stand to lose more voters and more elections in the process. New flash: Hillary lost! Get over it.
