“I am a Muslim American, angry at Israel,” said American Muslim Naveed Afzal Haq. He then began “randomly shooting at everyone” at the Seattle Jewish Federation.
The victims of this Jew-hating Muslim were all women. Pam Waechter, an assistant director at the federation, died at the scene. She was the mother of two children. Waechter was shot first in the chest and then in the head while she was fleeing. Christina Rexroad and Cheryl Stumbo were shot in the abdomen and critically wounded. Layla Bush was shot in the shoulder and the abdomen. According to her physician, the bullets damaged Bush’s “liver, stomach, pancreas, left kidney and ‘bruised’ her heart” and would have killed her had one of the bullets struck her a half inch to the right.
Bush, who is not Jewish, but wanted to work for charitable organizations, was released from the hospital in September, 2006, has a bullet lodged in her spine and is unable to walk.
Carol Goldman was shot in the knee. The sixth victim was Dayna Klein, a 37-year-old pregnant woman responsible for development and major gifts to the organization. Tammy Kaiser, a 33-year-old adult education director for the Federation, was briefly hospitalized for injuries she received after dropping from a second-story window to escape the shooter. SEATTLE, July 29 — A day after a gunman killed one woman and wounded five others in the offices of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, the police identified a Muslim man on Saturday as the suspect and said he used the Internet to select the federation as a random target for his anger toward Jews.
As Jewish groups across the Puget Sound region moved to increase security on Saturday, the police identified the suspect as Naveed Afzal Haq, 30, whose family lives in Pasco, in southeast Washington, about 180 miles from Seattle.
“….. he pointedly blamed the Jewish people for all of these problems. He stated he didn’t care if he lived.”
The chief said the gunman apparently selected the federation as a target by randomly searching the Internet for Jewish organizations in the area. The police confiscated at least three computers, he said.
Chief Kerlikowske described an intense and violent scene inside the federation, with some of the 18 people present jumping out of second-story windows and one young pregnant woman crawling to call 911 after being shot in the arm as she covered her abdomen. When the gunman later encountered her on the phone with emergency dispatchers, she refused to hang up.
A neighbor of Mr. Haq’s family in Pasco said Mr. Haq had spoken of Jews as recently as 10 days ago, sometimes using stereotypes about Jewish influence in the United States.
“He was saying he wasn’t trying to be racial about it but how they had control over a lot of the newscasts and things, ownership and stuff,” said the neighbor, Caleb Hales, 21.
Colleagues of the victims said the gunman had identified himself as “a Muslim-American” who was “angry at Israel.”
The A.P., citing a statement of probable cause, reported that Mr. Haq had told a 911 dispatcher, “These are Jews and I’m tired of getting pushed around and our people getting pushed around by the situation in the Middle East.”
So imagine my horror when I came across this recent condemnation while searching for something else entirely. How is it that so clueless and/or treacherous a man as Keith Dvorchik is chosen to lead a major Jewish organization at so perilous a time for the Jews? His own organization was targetted, six women (including a pregnant woman) were shot and he condemns our pro-Israel ads highlighting the call for Jewish genocide? What rational Jew would contribute to an organization providing cover to this century’s nazis?
Previous to Dovrchik’s appointment to Seattle Federation, he was the Executive Director of Hillel at the University of Florida. Hillel is another cowardly Jewish organization that fails to address the vicious Islamic Jew-hatred and anti-Israel propaganda on college campuses. Jews had better take stock of who we are and who are leaders are. They are marching us to the proverbial trains.
According to The Mike Report, “Seattle’s Jewish Federation has a history of providing a platform for anti-Israel extremists.” How cowed and craven. Naveed Afzal Haq’s jihad succeeded, apparently.
“Seattle’s Jewish Federation condemns pro-Israel ad” By The Mike Report, July 31, 2013
These two ads recently appeared on the sides of Seattle Metro Transit buses. One is pro-Israel the other is anti-Israel. Which do you think was condemned by the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle as “divisive and unhelpful?” If you guessed the pro-Israel ad, you would be correct.
Before accepting the pro-Israel ad, Metro Transit insisted that the ad sponsors (AFDI) provide evidence that the content of their ad was accurate, which they did. No such demand was made of the anti-Israel ad which libeled Israel with the offensive falsehood that Arabs do not enjoy civil rights in the Jewish state. Both Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Palestinian Ambassador to the United States Maen Rashid Areikat have made statements asserting that any future Palestinian state would be free of Jews.
Keith Dvorchik, new President and CEO of The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle
The pro-Israel ad states that “The Palestinian Authority is calling for a Jew-Free State, Equal Rights for Jews“. Somehow from this simple plea Seattle’s Jewish Federation has divined a well hidden anti-Islamic message which they also condemn with the following non sequitur. ”The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, and the broad mainstream of the Seattle Jewish community, does not equate support for Israel with intolerance for Muslims or their faith“.
In a region of the United States where hostility to Israel is de rigueur and where pro-Israel students on campus are bullied and intimidated, one would have hoped that the Jewish Federation would have stood with Israel over her enemies and for truth over political correctness.
Seattle’s Jewish Federation has a history of providing a platform for anti-Israel extremists. The JTNews, the house organ of the Federation has served as a soapbox for the most extreme anti-Israel groups including boycott (BDS) supporting organizations like Jewish Voice for Peace. It is disappointing that under the leadership of new President and CEO Keith Dvorchik, indications are that the Federation’s confused approach towards Israel advocacy will continue.
