John Bolton Warns U.S. Lacks Missile Power to Fight Off North Korea

55

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton issued a dire warning about America’s military might, suggesting during a televised interview the President Donald Trump administration might want to beef up missile defense.

Should North Korea strike, America may not be able to fully fend off attack, Bolton said.

“The argument is that North Korea is very close to having the capability of dropping nuclear warheads on the Unite States via ballistic missile,” he said, to Fox Business Network.

Story continues below advertisement
Russia has a new air base at Latakia, Syria, is involved in combat operations, and issues diktats about where American warplanes in the region may fly. Pictured: A Russian Air Force Su-24 passes a Syrianair Airbus A320 at Latakia. And John Bolton thinks America needs to ramp up military power, particularly missile defense, to fight the new age of threats facing the country.

That’s in part, thanks to Barack Obama, and this prior administration’s team of merry diplomats who would talk a soft talk and carry a cupcake.

As such, if North Korea struck Los Angeles with a nuclear warhead, Bolton said it wasn’t entirely evident that America could protect itself and retaliante with “adequate missile defense” moves.

Bolton went on: “If we had an effective national missile defense program I’d be confident we could [retaliate] but after eight years of the Obama administration funding of what the Bush administration had started was gutted basically.”

He also said in a penned piece for the Wall Street Journal, reprinted at the Gatestone Institute, that America needs a post-ISIS stragegy — and pronto.

Bolton wrote:

“The headlines out of Syria are eye-catching: There are signs the Assad government may be planning another chemical attack. American pilots have struck forces threatening our allies and shot down a Syrian plane and Iranian-made drones. The probability of direct military confrontation between the U.S. and Russia has risen. Yet the coverage of these incidents and the tactical responses that have been suggested obscure the broader story: The slow-moving campaign against Islamic State is finally nearing its conclusion — yet major, long-range strategic issues remain unresolved.

The real issue isn’t tactical. It is instead the lack of American strategic thinking about the Middle East after Islamic State. Its defeat will leave a regional political vacuum that must be filled somehow. Instead of reflexively repeating President Obama’s errors, the Trump administration should undertake an “agonizing reappraisal,” in the style of John Foster Dulles, to avoid squandering the victory on the ground.

First, the U.S. ought to abandon or substantially reduce its military support for Iraq’s current government. Despite retaining a tripartite veneer of Kurds, Sunni Arabs and Shiite Arabs, the capital is dominated by Shiites loyal to Iran. Today Iraq resembles Eastern Europe in the late 1940s, as the Soviet anaconda tightened its hold. Extending Baghdad’s political and military control into areas retaken from ISIS simply advances Tehran’s power. This cannot be in America’s interest.

Iraq’s Kurds have de facto independence and are on the verge of declaring it de jure. They fight ISIS to facilitate the creation of a greater Kurdistan. Nonetheless, the Kurds, especially in Syria and Turkey, are hardly monolithic. Not all see the U.S. favorably. In Syria, Kurdish forces fighting ISIS are linked to the Marxist PKK in Turkey. They pose a real threat to Turkey’s territorial integrity, even if it may seem less troubling now that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s plans have turned so profoundly contrary to the secular, Western-oriented vision of Kemal Atatürk.

Second, the U.S. should press Egypt, Jordan and the Gulf monarchies for more troops and material assistance in fighting ISIS. America has carried too much of the burden for too long in trying to forge Syria’s opposition into an effective force. Yet even today the opposition could charitably be called “diverse.” It includes undeniably terrorist elements that are often hard to distinguish from the “moderates” the U.S. supports. Getting fresh contributions from Arab allies would rebalance the opposition, which is especially critical if the U.S. turns away, as it should, from reliance on the Iraqi forces dominated by Tehran.

Third, the Trump administration must take a clear-eyed view of Russia’s intervention. The Syrian mixing bowl is where confrontation between American and Russian forces looms. Why is Russia active in this conflict? Because it is aiding its allies: Syria’s President Bashar Assad and Iran’s ayatollahs. Undeniably, Russia is on the wrong side. But Mr. Obama, blind to reality, believed Washington and Moscow shared a common interest in easing the Assad regime out of power. The Trump administration’s new thinking should be oriented toward a clear objective: pushing back these Iranian and Russian gains.

Start with Iran. Tehran is trying to cement an arc of control from its own territory, through Baghdad-controlled Iraq and Mr. Assad’s Syria, to Hezbollah-dominated Lebanon. This would set the stage for the region’s next potential conflict: Iran’s Shiite coalition versus a Saudi-led Sunni alliance.

The U.S.-led coalition, enhanced as suggested above, needs to thwart Iran’s ambitions as ISIS falls. Securing increased forces and financial backing from the regional Arab governments is essential. Their stakes are as high as ours — despite the contretemps between Qatar and Saudi Arabia (and others) — but their participation has lagged. The U.S. has mistakenly filled the gap with Iraqi government forces and Shiite militias.

Washington is kidding itself to think Sunnis will meekly accept rule by Iraq’s Shiite-dominated government or Syria’s Alawite regime. Simply restoring today’s governments in Baghdad and Damascus to their post-World War I boundaries would guarantee renewed support for terrorism and future conflict. I have previously suggested creating a new, secular, demographically Sunni state from territory in western Iraq and eastern Syria. There may well be other solutions, but pining for borders demarcated by Europeans nearly a century ago is not one of them.

At the same time, the U.S. must begin rolling back Russia’s renewed presence and influence in the Middle East. Russia has a new air base at Latakia, Syria, is involved in combat operations, and issues diktats about where American warplanes in the region may fly. For all the allegations about Donald Trump and Russia, the president truly in thrall to Moscow seems to have been Mr. Obama.

Russia’s interference, particularly its axis with Mr. Assad and Tehran’s mullahs, critically threatens the interests of the U.S., Israel and our Arab friends. Mr. Assad almost certainly would have fallen by now without Russia’s (and Iran’s) assistance. Further, Moscow’s support for Tehran shatters any claim of its truly being a partner in fighting radical Islamic terrorism, which got its modern start in Iran’s 1979 revolution. Both Iran and the Assad regime remain terror-sponsoring states, only now they are committing their violence under Russia’s protective umbrella. There is no reason for the U.S. to pursue a strategy that enhances Russia’s influence or that of its surrogates.

As incidents in Syria and Iraq increasingly put American forces at risk, Washington should not get lost in deconfliction negotiations or modest changes in rules of engagement. Instead, the Trump administration should recraft the U.S.-led coalition to ensure that America’s interests, rather than Russia’s or Iran’s, predominate once ISIS is defeated.

It breaks my heart to see such lack of concern regarding the islamic threat, among non-muslims. As an example, I was just at breitbart –

– An article titled – CNN Associate Producer Calls Voters ‘Stupid as Sh*t’ – Has around 5000 comments

Whereas, the article – Frankfurt Becomes First German City Where Natives Are Minority – Has just 1,500 comments.

So it’s like this – Someone at CNN talking sht, generates 4 times as much interest among non-muslims, as does one of the western cities falling to muslims. This news, about frankfurt, would have ideally been a bombshell, with everyone posting on it, and everyone sharing it, for weeks. But it will soon die out, thanks to the lack of concern.

Like I have said before – Indifference toward the muslim threat in non-muslims, would be one of the major reasons why the western civilization will fall to islam.

While I agree with your point, you’re comparing not apples to oranges, but apples to tree frogs. Every sane person knows by now that the Germany is becoming Germanistan, so Frankfurt is deja news. Veritas CNN video, on the other hand, is a bomb.

Nonsense, Trenton is right. For the most part the EU is almost a complete write off, and anyone who says / believes differently has their head buried in sand.
Show me one place in the Western EU that is not going to be totally Islamasized, even the UK is inundated and may still stay in the EU.
It’s the Eastern EU that needs all of our attention and support (backing). It’s they that are putting up the the big front, it’s they that are standing up for their “sovereignty”, not any of the mooslim sycophants in the west, and sadly too many are over here and winning the war of words.
As far as the CNN and other MSM leftist organizations are concerned they must be outed every time the open their lying mouths. They must be shown for the traitors they really are, and that can only be done on these kind of web sites. To ignore the MSM’s war of deceitful rhetoric is to say that what they say is god spoken truth.

CNM NEWS

NO SPIN ZONE. REAL NEWS .

Coffee Chains Serving Fecal Bacteria

BRITAIN: That Nice iced Coffee Drink You’re thinking of ordering at one of the 3 largest coffee chains might contain Human poo !

While this Report is based on assessment made in restaurants in Britain the problem is far more widespread including in USA due to shoddy hiring policies that recruit people from certain religion which are known to have poor hygiene standards and reason why is explained after this lead Report below.

Better think twice if you’re planning to have it at Starbucks, Caffe Nero, or Costa.

Traces of fecal bacteria have been found in their iced drinks which may originate in the ice cubes.

Seven out of 10 samples of ice used in Costa Coffee drinks were contaminated with bacteria from human poo, while three out of 10 samples from both Starbucks and Caffe Nero also tested positive for the bacteria, according to a report from the BBC’s consumer series Watchdog.

NEWSWEEK : THE RESEARCHERS ALSO TESTED CLEANLINESS OF TABLES, TRAYS AND HIGH CHAIRS AT 30 BRANCHES OF EACH CHAIN.

“THE LEVEL OF CONTAMINATION OF FECAL BACTERIA CONCERNS ME A GREAT DEAL. THE BACTERIA ARE OPPORTUNISTIC PATHOGENS—THE SOURCE OF HUMAN DISEASE. THESE SHOULD NOT BE PRESENT AT ANY LEVEL, NEVER MIND THE SIGNIFICANT NUMBERS FOUND,” TONY LEWIS, A SPOKESMAN FOR THE CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH, ACCORDING TO THE TELEGRAPH. LEWIS WARNED THAT SUCH “OPPORTUNISTIC PATHOGENS” ARE THE CAUSE OF “HUMAN DISEASE.”

FECAL COLIFORMS ARE BACTERIA THAT FORM IN THE INTESTINES OF WARM-BLOODED ANIMALS AND ARE CAPABLE OF GROWING IN THE HARSH, ACIDIC CONDITIONS OF THE DIGESTIVE TRACT.

AN EXAMPLE OF A FECAL COLIFORM IS ESCHERICHIA COLI (E. COLI), SOME VARIATIONS OF WHICH CAN CAUSE SERIOUS FOOD POISONING. THERE IS NO INDICATION THAT THE ICE USED BY THE COFFEE CHAINS CONTAINS E. COLI.

ALL THREE COFFEE CHAINS SAID THEY HAD TAKEN ACTION IN LIGHT OF THE REPORT.

The beer is safe to drink, as are US name brand soft drinks like Coke. Avoid everything else. Drink your whisky straight. No salads.

A f(r)iend was travelling to Thailand on business. His companion stopped at a pharmacy and bought a gross of condoms. He thought, “Thailand may be a sexual playground, but that is a bit extreme.”

When they got to Bangkok, They went into the hotel bar. He ordered a whisky with ice on the side. Then he pulled out a condom, dropped two ice cubes into it, tied it off, and plopped it into his drink.

I think there is a level of fatigue with the Eurabia stories. So many people have been dismissing it for years, as right wing alarmism. Now we are watching it happen, and there is nothing we, in America, can do about it. So what’s there to discuss?

I’m still not convinced that it will play out to its Eurabia endpoint; demographic projections seldom play out to their projected endpoints. The situation is dire, and Europe has little time left. I suspect there will be another Holocaust when they’ve finally had enough, but we’ll be cheering this one on.

Until then, it is their circus, their monkeys.

Incorrect. Even when there was no fatigue, even when things were beginning to go down, even when the opportunity was ripe for the interest to be generated – Not many cared.

This fatigue excuse is false premise. The fact is that non-muslims have forever been nonchalant regarding the islamic threat, at large. There are few who do care, but they are not remotely enough.

This fact is further consolidated by the fact that the moment you begin to talk about what islamic scriptures teach, what islamic leaders state – Non-muslims immediately tune it out, and run away like their pants are on fire. If there really was genuine interest, will, and desire, they would even pay to learn more about islam, and not avoid it like it’s a great burden.

Talk about being a little too close to the action.
My friend’s dad was in the US Army when they were conducting nuclear tests in the NV desert in the 1950’s. For some bizarre reason he and members of his platoon were sent to ground zero after a detonation w/no protection whatsoever.

Not to mention Bolton has not been an ambassador for over 10 years, and really doesnt have the information or authority to speak on such issues.

Bolton seems IMO to have some very strange views about Turkey and Russia while the “caliphate” will simply dissolve into ‘refugees” and will restart their war in Europe. Why Russia has links at all with Iran I cannot understand as they would be far better cooperating with the US, that is , assuming that the US wishes this and from what I have read the Obama/bush/Clinton regimes did NOT. So far , all that I can see is win, win for Iran and sharia Turkey while the Kurds massacres of Christians has removed them totally from my caring as IMO they are just another bunch of barbaric muslins who direly need to be “sorted out”.

That your missile defense system is horrible must be true.
North Korea fired numerous missiles as if toward Japan, but you and your most sophisticated defense forces located in Japan did NOTHING.

What a good way it would be to demonstrate your ability to destroy enemy’s ballistic missile by shooting down NK’s stupid test rocket.
But you did nothing.
Despite of all “the best” equipment you posses, you look like helpless child. And you act like one too.

It’s shame that lying politician must bring up the pure lie to all people, that US has not enough means to defend against small, backward country somewhere in Asia.

I agree with Bolton to some extent. We have allowed our ballistic and strategic bomber forces to be attrited. We are behind in BMD defense. India has a more robust BMD defense than we do. We desperately need to field a comprehensive BMD defense system. We need to return our nuclear arsenal to the Cold War peak of about 15,000 modern devices. We need to field a large fleet of hypersonic strategic bombers.

“Mr. Assad almost certainly would have fallen by now without Russia’s (and Iran’s) assistance.” …but fallen to who? To radical Sunnis? Would we be seeing a new Caliphate now in Syria without Russia’s (and Iran’s) assistance? There are no good guys and bad guys in this fight. They are all pretty much bad guys, or at least Islamic supremacists of one stripe or another.

Bolton goes on to say “I have previously suggested creating a new, secular, demographically Sunni state from territory in western Iraq and eastern Syria.” “At the same time, the U.S. must begin rolling back Russia’s renewed presence and influence in the Middle East.” ie Russia’s a new air base at Latakia, Syria. Only one problem here. Russia is a long term ally of Assad, where the US would be invaders, and have to contest Russia’s lawful presence. Ultimately, this may mean a full blown war with Russia. Is this what Bolton is suggesting?
