Anti-Trump Group Funded to Tune of $20 Million in Government Grants

27

A leftist group that clearly identifies with anti-President Donald Trump activism is nonetheless using the taxpayer dollar — $20 million worth, in fact — to push forward its take-down Trump message.

The group’s called Make the Road New York, and it’s a New York City-based Latino immigration outlet that uses dues from its 19,000 members to fund activities — along with millions of dollars in government grants.

Protests at JFK airport in New York were funded in part by an anti-President Donald Trump group that’s tied to George Soros — and that’s received $20 million or so in government grants.

Look at this, from the Washington Free Beacon:

Story continues below advertisement

“Make the Road New York (MRNY), a New York City-based Latino immigrant group with 19,000 dues-paying members, has been actively involved with anti-Trump campaigns and is closely linked to an organization that is spearheading a new $80 million anti-Trump network that will span across 32 states.

“In addition to generous funding from liberal billionaire George Soros, MRNY has hauled in millions in government grants.

“From 2002 to 2007, MRNY recorded $1,372,440 in government grants on their Form 990s, an amount that averages $274,488 per year, with no grants in 2005. Government funding to the group sharply increased between 2008 and 2014, the last year a Form 990 is publicly available from the group.

“In 2008, MRNY’s taxpayer-funded grants rose above $1 million for the first time when the group pulled in $1,052,195 in grants. In 2009, the amount increased to $1,928,863. In 2010, MRNY was given $2,693,885. In 2011, the group pulled in $2,490,540. From 2012 to 2014, MRNY took in $10,996,247 in government grants.

“While the Form 990s do not shed light on why the grants were awarded or what government agency’s they came from—only a total amount is marked on the 990s—MRNY’s 2014 annual report shows that the group has received funding from the New York State Department of State, New York City Department of Education, and the New York State Education Department, among others.

“Additionally, USASpending.com, a government website that posts grants online, shows MRNY has received federal funding from the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Labor. The website shows that the group received at least $725,459 in federal grants in 2015 and more than $4 million in 2016, years for which the group’s 990 are not publicly available.”

The group’s been involved most recently with protests against Trump’s travel ban on terror hot spots.

It’s also involved itself with targeting retailers that sell Trump products.

And then there’s this, also from the Free Beacon:

“Make the Road additionally “partnered” with the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD)—a New York-based nonprofit that consists of old chapters of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), a controversial community organizing group that closed its doors after being stripped of federal funds in 2010—on the “Corporate Backers of Hate” campaign that targeted nine companies said to profit from Trump policies.

“Make the Road New York’s ties to the Center for Popular Democracy go beyond mere partnerships on campaigns. The groups have many overlapping staffers and have passed money to each other.

“The Center for Popular Democracy, which is led by a number of former members of ACORN, announced last week that they will be leading a new $80 million anti-Trump network that will span 32 states and have 48 local partners. The network will focus on mobilizing new voters and fighting voter identification laws. It will also be involved with gerrymandering and automatic voter registration efforts.

“Andrew Friedman, the co-executive director of the Center for Popular Democracy, founded Make the Road New York in 1997. Friedman spent 15 years building up MRNY before moving over to the Center for Popular Democracy. Friendman currently sits on the board of directors for MRNY and MRNY Action Fund.

“Ana Maria Archila, co-executive director of CPD, served as co-executive director of Make the Road before joining Center for Popular Democracy.”

All kinds of groups like that.

It is not likely that all of these anti movement groups can be “defunded” but there must be much less money given to destructive organizations who’s only purpose is to destroy the rights and freedoms of the Constitution.

I honestly do not know why he has not been charged with sedition, tried and convicted. According to the English Dictionary sedition is conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch. Soros certainly appears to have been doing that very thing.

This site from Cornell Law School defines various forms of activity against the government and the punishments for each:

Since government grants have long been abused, misused, misappropriated, etc, they should be abolished. Taxpayers wanting to donate to groups/causes would then be free to carefully select the donation recipients.

Turn them over to Trump

Last month I talked to one of my nieces for the last time. The quintessential comment “Oh, but they have had to endure so much persecution.” “That was years ago, but not in this day and age.” I answered. “Oh no we must help them as long as they need it.” As I pushed harder against this entitlement mentality, she went from being pleasant to downright rude and hostile. When I mentioned how Trump won the election on this very issue, she went ballistic and stormed out of the house. This is what we get when we send this generation — millennials — to university.

Agree 100%. I have almost the same experience. The brainwashing of the young generation is much worse problem that some people think. One day we will wake up in the new country leading by the young commies. We can fight all day long now, but the new brainwashed generation will change the world much sooner, when we’ll wake up.
Trump’s administration has to get a new approach to college “professors” who boldly brainwash our kids for our big money, what the Universities charge for the tuition. School’s and University teachers must be obligated just TO TEACH THEIR SUBJECT. DO NOT INDOCTRINATE THE YOUNG MINDS in many ways. In any religious and political affiliation ways. It’s not THEIR JOB. They must only teach their subject and shut up for the rest. They can brainwash their own kids in their homes.

Right! However, to the best of my knowledge, there is no legislation or regulations that inhibit any teacher from brainwashing force-feeding compliance to a Democratic-Socialist agenda — an agenda that is built right into the curriculum. Furthermore, this started in the late sixties and early seventies. I rarely got any respect as a student from teachers and fellow students for my moral defence of laissez-faire capitalism. No, the only hope we lovers of freedom have left is to teach our children and grand-children that hey must move from their comfort zone and pledge their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor in the defence of liberty.

I’m not sure you understand my point. What I would like to see is the full withdrawal of the teachers at schools and professors at Universities from ANY DISCUSSION OF THE RELIGION AND POLITICS. Unless it’s Theological College. It should be neutral, so students could make their own choice in accordance with their life experience, honest media(LOL), etc.
NO BRAINWASHING!
We send our children to receive the proper education, the knowledge of the subjects. Not to the brainwashing factories. I was born and raised in the former Soviet Union and know on my own skin what a brainwash means.
We were tough since the toddlers age how great is our socialist system and were forced to say how do we love it. No matter how bad and criminal it was in real life. I paid a high price to escape the tyranny and become a proud citizen of the best country in the world – USA.
So I don’t want my children and their children become the no-brainier commies, brainwashed by the leftist and their bold and disgusting propaganda.
They have to be able to create their own opinions, not receive it from the leftist crazy professors, who make a good money but don’t perform their job properly. Teach the subject, not indoctrinate young minds. This is exactly what I mean. We pay our high taxes to support their great lifestyle and their good pension plans and great benefits. Whoever pays can order the music. They must just shut up and teach the SUBJECT. Is it not easy and fear?

Now I know we are not on the same wavelength. The Constitution does not guarantee Freedom From Religion; but, Freedom of Religion. It also does not guarantee Freedom from Politics or political discussion. In a classroom everyone has First Amendment protection; except of course, the students, whose parents have forfeited their rights by turning them over to a gigantic federally controlled bureaucracy and their intimate allies — THE LEFTWING THUGS. Because Trump has tunnel vision, he cares only about his image and has turned a blind eye to the Liberal swamp that he promised to clean up.
And, pay attention to this. My grand parents escaped the Soviets from Ukraine before Stalin was able to murder them by starvation. Anyone with a brain in their head knows the end result of communism, fascism or Islamism. It leads to bloody tyranny, where they make the hideous claim that it is all for the greater good. The best way to fight it is to proclaim the opposite. Mankind needs absolute freedom from force or fraud, its close ally.

This is yet another proof of the left’s robbery of taxpayers. They have no qualms regarding using public money for their own ends. In fact, they feel justified in doing so. But if a conservative organization did the exact same thing, all hell would break loose. This shows how childish the liberals are. What hypocrites!

Remember that many, or most, Republicans are closet democrats. Politicians just use their positions for their own ends. Few of our leaders are actually leaders. They’re mainly misleaders who have a seared conscience.
