Muslim Comedian Ramy Youssef’s Punchline: “Submit to Islam”

42

Ramy Youssef, standup comedian and star of Nickelodeon’s “See Dad Run,” appeared recently on Steven Colbert’s “Late Show.” Ramy’s performance reminded us that although there are certainly Muslims in the world, there are no “Muslim comedians.” Or at least none that are funny.

[the_ad id=”90513″]

Humor is a form of human communication that entails surprise, playful judgement, and truth.

Story continues below advertisement

“Humor is the good natured side of a truth.” – Mark Twain

It is that last ingredient that is especially missing from the work of the wave of “Muslim comedians” such as Ramy Youssef who are coming our way.

For humor to be successful, it needs to have a bass line, an integrity.

As Twain put it:

“…humor cannot do credit to itself without a good background of gravity & of earnestness. Humor unsupported rather hurts its author in the estimation of the reader.” – Mark Twain

Ordinarily, ambiguity is not good for a comedian, who wants to avoid the “I don’t get it” response. Andy Kaufman used ambiguity in his humor, but he was actually funny and there was never any doubt that he was not advancing a political agenda.

Muslim comedians, by contrast, are almost always political. Islam is a political movement. “Muslim comedian” is a political designation.

The term “Muslim comedian” is not analogous to “Jewish comedian.” Jewish culture had a well-established literature and tradition of humor long before the arrival of mass media. There is nothing comparable to this in Islam.

Qualify the term “comedian” with other political movements, or things that are perceived to be political, and you come up with parings such as “white comedian,” “Christian comedian,” and “Nazi comedian.” None of these things would succeed unless they were done as satire, such as Colbert’s Republican comedian shtick.

With Islam, you don’t get any satire. You get your subtext served straight up, with no chaser.

Humor and truth are closely related. The truth that Islamic humor reveals consists of puns, pranks, ridicule, throwing melon rinds at each other, and practical jokes. Tricking people and jokes that are made at other people’s expense is typical of Muslim humor.

This is the dualistic nature of Islam, in which the humor is barbed: wounding on one end, and flattering on the other.

Islam doesn’t have a real tradition of what we would call good humor.

The truths reveled by Muslim humorists are Islamic truths, and will only be applicable to Muslims. The more Islamic a comedian becomes, the less humorous he will be.

There are three points at which Ramy Youssef became a Muslim instead of a comedian:

I believe in god god, not yoga.”

This seems to be an invitation to participate in bigotry, not humor. Additionally, it opens the door to some hard truths that could lead to some sophisticated humor. We very much need to have a discussion about this difficult subject, that is, the fact that Allah, the god of Islam, is not the same god as Yahweh.

When Ramy senses he is losing traction, he shifts gears, and begins talking about his roots.

I lived in a town where I watched my gay friends struggling to come out to the religious community

Youssef touches on the deadly collision between gay Muslims and their larger community, and there is a great deal of truth to be spoken here. In the right hands, a humorous message could be conveyed, but not from Ramy Youssef. As if he were in a Mr. Magoo cartoon, he flips a u-turn and heads back down the way he came, referencing himself, and says:

now I am in L.A., where I am a religious person trying to come out to the gay community.

Ramy is a Muslim oppressed by homosexuals? “Religious person”? Jews aren’t killing gays, and neither are Christians. But Muslims are – daily. Flipping the script is a familiar rhetorical device used by Muslims, but it is not funny.

Ramy’s soliloquy about joining ISIS is fraught with ambiguity. He says that looking at the news has him wondering if he will “do something.” He imagines being contacted by ISIS members who remind him of his obligations as a Muslim, and he agrees. Ramy says he would join ISIS for a wand, because a wand is cooler than democracy.

We are all gravely concerned about Muslims who live among us suddenly flipping out and killing people with cars, bombs, and/or knives. Where is that reality, that truth in Ramy’s humor?

This performance was like an Islamic version of an Andy Kaufman routine, in which the whole dynamic was turned around, and he was laughing at us. Isn’t he laughing up his sleeve because we don’t get the joke?

When the subtext is this close to the surface, it can be mistaken for a joke, but he just got the audience to applaud their own annihilation.

Submit to Islam because it is the truth, and it is the only way you will be saved, seriously. Trust me, you gotta’ do it.’”

He is not cracking a joke, he is telling you the naked truth from his heart.

That was a funny punchline. Overall the entire 5 minutes were funny. If all Muslims were like him, we’d quite likely wouldn’t have a problem with their religion. He should be left alone.

He was ironically playing with the audiences expectations and didn’t hesitate to get a reaction on the expense of being declared an unfunny radical.

First, he gives the trigger information that he’s “a Muslim” then proceeds with the usual “don’t worry” just to reinforce it by stating he’s “oppressed”, then goes on to compare it with others, which puts him on par with “homosexuals” and right in the moment, when you think you have another liberal idiot in front of you, who doesn’t know his own religion and just pokes out standard phrases, he ends it with “wait until I join ISIS”.

The same was with the other jokes.

Overall, I found that both daring and hilarious to be honest. It took me a moment, but he managed to break through my expectations and now I am actually curious to see more stuff by that guy…

Real satirists leave both jokes and question marks.

My friend if you have read the Qu’ran as i have then you would not interpret what he said to be ‘Ironic’.

The true Irony is that what he said about Everyone submitting to Islam was correct and that if thing carry on going as they are that will be the case.

A phobia is an irrational fear of something. I have a true fear of being killed as an order of Allah for being a Kuffar. This can be quoted in many verses in the Qu’ran and are the final orders of Allah himself. So if you are a non believer like me then unless you dont have a fear of dying you cant be an Islamophobic.

When somebody recites a peaceful passage from the Qu’ran you must understand that there are many verses that contradict each other due to what happened while he was gaining messages from Allah from the Angel Gabriel. Look up Surah 2:106 in the Qu’ran.

Basically if Allah gives an order and then later on he gives another order that completely disregards the previous one you must take the latter as the order. Its very complicated.

The order that all of the world will eventually become Islam and though you may laugh at the prospect everything that happened in the Qu’ran is slowly happening.

So basically do some research on the Qu’ran and discover that it is him that is actually laughing at you.

And BTW everything that ISIS have done is absolutely in the Qu’ran apart from them killing disabled children.

Quran (18:65-81) – This parable lays the theological groundwork for honor killings, in which a family member is murdered because they brought shame to the family, either through apostasy or perceived moral indiscretion. The story (which is not found in any Jewish or Christian source) tells of Moses encountering a man with “special knowledge” who does things which don’t seem to make sense on the surface, but are then justified according to later explanation. One such action is to murder a youth for no apparent reason (74). However, the wise man later explains that it was feared that the boy would “grieve” his parents by “disobedience and ingratitude.” He was killed so that Allah could provide them a ‘better’ son. [Note: This parable along with verse 58:22 is a major reason that honor killing is sanctioned by Sharia. Reliance of the Traveler (Umdat al-Saliq) says that punishment for murder is not applicable when a parent or grandparent kills their offspring (o.1.12).]

The first text comes from the Sharia manual Umdat al-Salik (Sunni). Section o1.2 lists many cases of murder for which the murderer is granted immunity.

“o1.2 The following are not subject to retaliation:

A child or insane person, under any circumstances … ;

A Muslim for killing a non-Muslim ;

A Jewish or Christian subject of the Islamic state for killing an apostate from Islam … ;

A father or mother (or their fathers or mothers) for killing their offspring, or offspring’s offspring ;

I thought “everybody submit to Islam”was his best punchline;-)

It’s again an ironic inversion of what to expect and just when you think ‘yeah, he might not really mean that’ he goes down the roller coaster again.

But I agree: It’s a taste thing and he did probably get the mission to do a Muslim thing on the Colbert show. Well and in case the intention was to make half of the audience laugh and the other half upset – it seems to have worked.

There is one thing he could do better: His mimics. The physical exaggeration along the lines could help by offering the audience another level to the intend of his humor.

“I could really use some guidance here”
I’m sure most understood your irony. It was great.
what is sad,and dangerous, is that, there are legion of pathetic ppl who allowed it to sail right over their heads,
As their future murderers make jokes about how they’ll dominate all others in the name of a cartoon god.
Remember the saying, “Jokes on You” ? Barack Hussein, was using it for 8 years. And now,the ocean of ppl who need someone to think for them, has become the present and future allah Kool-aid drinkers.
And all the evil, that goes with it.
There is only One-Truth, all others, are False-Truths.

Stephen Colburgh is yesterday’s news, best before date, long before o’bimbo got even more stale. There is nothing funny about islam or muslims. They are smiling blood thirsty inhuman criminally insane cultists.

“The Muslim does not slander, curse, speak obscenely or speak rudely.”
— Tirmidhi[19]
Muhammad discouraged backbiting and inappropriate language:
“(Backbiting is) your mentioning about your brother something that he dislikes.” This especially pertains to telling the truth, which if offensive, is not allowed, whereas inoffensive lies are.
Hypocrisy in islam, lesson #1.
“Woe to the one who speaks and tells lies in order to make the people laugh; woe to him, woe to him.”
— at-Tirmidhi, Hadith Number 2315; Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith Number 4990.[15][16]
“A man may say something to make his companions laugh, and he will fall into Hell as far as the Pleiades because of it.”
— Ahmad ibn Hanbal.[12][13]
rammy yusuf is an apostate, in his case, they should break every bone in his body rather than just “break a leg” before his display of dull.

Apostate or apostle in Islam both stand for evil. Islam is not only evil, but there is nothing for the children. They don’t have birthday parties, girl scouts, boy scouts, carnivals, music, dance, sports etc. They’re taught at a young age to hate the infidel and how to make bombs and become suicide bombers for 72 virgins. What do the girl suicide bombers get, male virgins? A religion sporn from hell. I hate Muslims so much, that i couldn’t laugh at any of their jokes.

The title of this article threw me off. I had confused him with Ramzi Youssef, one of the main conspirators in the ’93 WTC bombing, the bombing of Phillipine Airlines Flight 434, and one of the main co-conspirators in the Bojinka plot. But since these ragheads are a bunch of “inbred Jeds” and trying to figure their ancestry is like trying to unscramble the eggs in an omelet, I was close.

If a man and woman get married in Baghdad but get divorced in Damascus, are they still brother and sister?

“Ramzi Yousef”–it is NOT his real name–was the mastermind (designer and implementer) of the bomb detonated that was supposed to kill at least 50,000.

Ramzi Youssef , as I have described him, is the same one identified the same way by Andrew McCarthy, former US Attorney who successfully prosecuted him in the ’93 WTC bombing and as outlined in his book, “Willful Blindness”. Try Wikipedia’s description as well.

scheradoD

McCarthy knows that the presiding Judge who sentenced “Yousef” lamented that he didn’t even know the name of the man he was sentencing.

[Judge Duffy], in urging that prison officials bar Mr. Yousef from seeing or contacting family members, told him derisively, ”We don’t even know what your real name is.”

He cited Mr. Yousef’s uses of a dozen aliases and his refusal to disclose his real name. “Having abandoned your family name, I must assume that you have abandoned your family also,” the judge said.

I take it you have not read McCarthy’s first hand account. None of the name confusion you cite was in his book, which I read cover to cover. The ragheads were stupid enough to think they could escape prosecution. Their bomb blew the rented van to bits but the FBI recovered the drive shaft which had the VIN (vehicle identification number) stamped on it and traced it to the rental outfit. When they visited the rental office the camel jockeys were there arguing with the clerk about refunding their money, claiming the van was stolen. They were promptly arrested. Dumb bastards.

Andy Kaufman and that wrestler on the David Letterman show was a performance artist act. David Letterman wasn’t in on it and neither was the viewing audience. The viewing audience also wasn’t let in on the joke that Andy Kaufman was spewing insults at Lawlor from wrestler Lawlor’s own backyard. There was, of course, no subtext from Lawlor and Kaufmann that they had to convert to Christianity or Judaism or else they would die. That was the subtext with Youseff vis a vis Islam. The people blown up in Manchester today got a taste of that submission business.
