Landmark deal could be frozen as Tehran terror network growsBy Adam Kredo, Washington Free Beacon, April 19, 2017:The Trump administration is considering re-imposing a massive set of economic sanctions on Iran that were lifted by the Obama administration as part of the landmark nuclear agreement that gave Tehran billions in economic support, according to U.S. officials who told the Washington Free Beacon that Iran’s military buildup and disregard for international law could prompt U.S. reprisal.Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told Congress in a letter sent Tuesday that Iran is complying with requirements for its nuclear program imposed under the nuclear accord. However, Tillerson emphasized that Iran continues to be the world’s leading state sponsor of terror.
Story continues below advertisementTehran’s malign activities across the Middle East and elsewhere have prompted the Trump administration to place all aspects of the nuclear agreement under critical review, which is viewed by some as a first step to nixing some controversial aspects of the accord, including the massive sanctions relief package.
U.S. officials familiar with the review told the Free Beacon that Iran’s continued support for terrorism has become a sticking point for the Trump administration as it reviews the agreement and the previous administration’s policy toward Iran.

“I think the key is what comes next,” one senior White House official familiar with the interagency review told the Free Beacon. “The question of ongoing sanctions relief will be critical—Iran has already gotten significant economic benefits from the nuclear deal and we need to take a hard look at what Iran is doing with the resources that continue to flow in.”
The Trump administration has been paying close attention to Iran’s ongoing military buildup, including its continued work on ballistic missiles and other offensive weapons aimed at interfering with U.S. operations in the Persian Gulf region.
“Yesterday was the annual Army Day celebration—also known as Death to Israel day—and they paraded some pretty serious new hardware through the streets,” the White House official disclosed. “That has to be a significant concern.”
The White House’s national security apparatus will closely monitor Iran’s behavior as it makes a decision about re-imposing sanctions lifted by the Obama administration.
Tillerson’s emphasis on Iran’s terror operation is “a first step, but we have to remain focused on the threat Tehran poses to America and our allies,” the official said.

“The Democrats [Markey, Franken, Shaheen, Gillibrand, Honda, Biden and John Kerry] who have approved this deal are turning their party into a party of atom bomb spies.
Those politicians who have taken money from the Iran Lobby and are signing off on a deal that will let Iran go nuclear have engaged in the worst form of treason and committed the gravest of crimes. Please do this in time to put the kibosh on the Boeing deal for 737s. And I say this as a Boeing retiree and stock holder. I also oppose the EXIM Bank which Big Blue loves so much. Boeing can make plenty of money without Iran or tax payer funded corporate welfare.

There are treats from all islamic nations, of caring degree and potential destruction. Have to be aware of all of them. The saudis have something to loose in a fight, the iranians think they don’t, with their “mahadi” popping out of an out house hole, after a war of some sort.

To clear up any and all confusion, the Iran deal is NOT a treaty but merely a political agreement between Obhammud and the ayatollahs, hardly worth the paper on which it is written. It never was presented to, nor ratified by, the Senate. It was simply a case of giving away the whole store and the keys to it in return for nothing tangible. Remember the pallet full of cold hard cash in the billions of dollars that was shipped to Tehran on a bizjet in the dead of night and then the imprisoned US citizens there being released afterward? If that is not ransom I’ll kiss your ass on the courthouse steps. As the old saying has it, “If you can’t fool them with facts, baffle them with bull sh*t.”

Reimpose the crippling sanctions than had Iran’s knees buckling until Obama came to their rescue? It will never happen. That horse has already left the barn. Those sanctions were an unusual piece of cooperation between 6 nations that included France, Russia and China among others. You are never going to get that agreement together again. US applying sanctions on its own will have little effect.

Much is being made about the fact that the Trump administration has certified that Iran is currently in compliance with the Obama agreement but I wouldn’t read too much into that. The details of the deal have been kept secret so for all we know Iran is in compliance with the deal. On the other hand I suspect that the agreement was structured in such a way that it will be virtually impossible for Iran to be certified non-compliant. President Trump stated that he would hold Iran to the terms of the deal and this may just be the first step in that process. We’re going to have to abide by our obligations in the agreement until such time as it can be demonstrated that Iran is not. Then we can drop the hammer.
