Media Dances a Jig, But Truth Reveals: Obama, Not Trump, Hurt at Hearings

Mainstream media types have been cheering and giggling in the last 24 hours or so, saying the House Intelligence Committee hearings about Russia’s intervention in Campaign 2016 affairs has been nothing but a smack-down of White House statements — but truth is, Barack Obama’s reputation, not President Donald Trump’s, took the greater dings.

For instance, the FBI’s James Comey and the National Security Agency’s Michael Rogers both stated at Monday’s hearing they did not have evidence of Obama wiretapping Trump Tower, as claimed by the White House, and by Trump himself, on Twitter. But this is not new.

Story continues below advertisement
James Comey, of the FBI, and Michael Rogers, with the NSA, testify before the House Intelligence Committee

Both agencies already said that within their respective agencies, there was no evidence of Obama-fueled wiretapping of Trump Tower.

Still, the media’s taken that doubling down of previously publicly stated claims and run with it as if it’s proof positive of the craziness of Trump.

But you know what was new at the hearing — and what should be weaving through the press right now?

This, as Breitbart noted:

“There was only one new revelation at the hearing, and it was a bombshell: senior Obama administration officials could have known the identities of surveillance targets.

“One of those targets, retired General Michael Flynn, lost his job after it was revealed that his conversation with the Russian ambassador had been monitored, and that he had discussed sanctions relief, contrary to his early private an public claims.

“Yet Flynn’s identity was never supposed to have been revealed. The surveillance of the Russian ambassador, routine though it may have been, yielded classified information, and the identity of any U.S. citizen swept up in it should have been redacted.

“But Flynn’s name was unmasked and leaked to the media. Moreover, the New York Times reported on Jan. 19 — with a front-page, top-of-the-fold headline on Inauguration Day — that ‘intelligence reports based on some of the wiretapped communications had been provided to the White House.’ And the Times also reported in February that surveillance of Trump aides suspected of ties with Russia had been disseminated widely throughout the government, without privacy protections, by order of the lame duck Obama administration under newly-relaxed NSA rules, which the Times had already reported earlier in January.

“Monday’s hearing ‘debunked’ Trump’s wiretapping tweets, but left his underlying claim intact: that there was surveillance of the Trump campaign; that the results were shared throughout the government — even possibly reaching the Obama White House; and that intelligence was leaked, illegally, to the mainstream media.”

It’s the leaking of classified information that’s the bigger story here, people. And on that, Trump’s been calling the shots for months, telling America that in no uncertain terms, U.S. intel needs to tighten up on its political bias — and tighten up on its sieve of a system.

Trump came out and told fox news tucker carlson that he had info coming out ‘in two weeks’ that wil l exonerate him- (One note here- Comey did not say that there ‘is no evidence’ He said that he is not ‘aware of any evidence’ big difference- comey was word playing to prevent himself from being held accountable IF evidence does come up)

Trump had better have evidence after declaring that- because htere were a lot of Cruz supporters and even some folks who claimed to be ‘never-trumpers’ who never-the-less were able to put aside their differences and have reluctantly gotten aboard the trump train and who now are ‘cautiously optimistic’ that Trump will lead this country in the right direction- IF Trump has no evidence- then he is going to lose the trust of a lot of those folks-

Some have said that President Trump wouldn’t come out and say something like that –Unless– he actually had evidence- I hope for the sake of his reputation that this is true- He will lose a lot of trust if he doesn’t

sure the wire tapping may be debunked.. but all the FBI said is that they have no evidence… not that it didn’t happen or that evidence doesn’t exist…merely that they don’t have it. Likewise GCHQ’s response was classic establishment spin…they responded to the allegation by describing the allegation as “ridiculous”. This is the oldest trick in the book and you will note that there is no contradiction between something being both ridiculous and being true – you will notice that they did not describe the allegation as untrue… merely as ridiculous… in government spin terms, that is an admission of culpability right there

A president can fire an FBI director simply for ‘Adequate cause”- Clinton fired Bill Sessions- claiming that sessions could “no longer effectively lead the bureau and law enforcement community,” simply because Sessions allegedly used FBI aircraft for ‘personal reasons’

Trump should declare this man can “no longer effectively lead the bureau and law enforcement community,” and do this country a huge favor by firing him

excellent points Suresh… yup and I saw how the Icelandics deal with them… that is how policing is supposed to work – though you have to ask, what in the name of God were the Icelandics thinking letting these thugs in in the 1st place – Iceland only has a population of 300,000 for the whole country!

shirley is right, Comey said the FBI had no evidence and he did not deny the possibility of it occurring, yet now CNN and specifically fake new artist Wolf Blitzer portrays Donald Trump as a liar and “a fake president” for saying there was surveillance, but funnily enough Blitzer and the rest at CNN are too stupid to appreciate that they are liars and fake news presenters when persisting with the unproven claim that Russia influenced the outcome of the last election – even after Comey said no evidence of this had been found. Asked how long the FBI had been investigating this, Comey said since June, 2016. So nine months has passed without any evidence and yet the fake news artists at CNN persist with the same rubbish, in effect that their claims of Russian influence occurred. How can Americans fall for this crap? As to Comey, while the FBI and NSA might not have been involved in surveillance of the Trump Tower, this does not prove there was no surveillance by someone else on the behalf of Obama through a secret CIA contract.

How can they say there is no evidence if there were not listening. They then were using lip reading. Can they lip read through walls, partitions?

And nobody that I heard asked if they had looked for evidence! Hillary is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what democrats do with evidence; they scrub it, erase it, lie about it. They are well trained in causing chaos.

Considering several “newspaper” rags commented on released info from “wiretapping”, liar POS comey claiming investigations into Trump since July 2016 and the fact that rat obama has been wiretapping reporters he doesn’t like, Flynn wiretapping and release of transcripts to media, rat obama wiretapping a couple of news media companies, plus hacking into the Associated Press computers…would ANYONE put it past the rat obama administration to wiretap anyone, let alone Trump?
Remember, in 2013, POS comey modified a Bush-era law allowing the FBI to wiretap millions of Americans without a warrant.

FISA court Judge Walton claimed NSA and FBI wiretapping without authority.
1979, Supreme Court ruled metadata not covered by 4th Amendment.
2003 & 2004, NSA investigating library records without warrants.
2006 NSA claims section 215 of Patriot Act allows collection of all phone calls. FBI agrees.
2006, NSA claimed collection of emails and wiretapping legal without warrant.

This stuff is easy to find, look it up.

democrats are the enemy.

They haven’t said it is false, just that there is no evidence for it, which in Washington speak means, it is true 🙂

Probably because it is classified at too high a level, and would embarrass some of our allies, and hurt our intelligence gathering, if it came out.

trump should stop making statements with no evidence.this is no longer a reality show hustling for ratings and frankly i’m getting tired of his endless self inflicted controversies, all because he chooses not to keep his mouth shut .he’d better have evidence of wiretaps cos this stuff is pissing people who stick up for him.its not just about him but the over 60 million who voted for him.

Shirley, Actually Comey said he didnt have any “INFORMATION” which is different from evidence. Take a look back at what he actually said and to google and type in difference between evidence and information. You might be surprised as to what the two words actually mean. Take good care.

What about the 7 names Senator Gowdy mentioned? Is anybody looking at those? I’m not sure it would be a good idea to fire Director Comey, because his 2-i-c is one McCabe whose wife’s campaign was given funds by the Clinton Foundation.

Trump’s claim of being wiretapped debunked or denied through a lie? The NSA lied through their teeth before in claiming they were not massively collecting electronic communications of US citizens.

If Trump’s phones were not tapped, how did quotes from his conversations with foreign leaders (Mexico and Australia) after he was elected get leaked?
Those leaked quotes had to come from someone having Trump’s phone tapped. So, if is phone was tapped after the election was his phone tapped during the campaign? By the way those leaked quotes are a violation of the Espionage Act.
Do bears crap in the woods?
It has been revealed that British and US spy agencies use each other’s spy apparatus to spy on their own citizens so they can claim that they did not spy on their own citizens. (the US intelligence agencies spy on Brits and the Brits spy on US citizens) Then the information gained is “leaked”.
A declassified document on the NSA’s own website confirms NSA/GCHQ “collaboration” dating back decades.
The Brits claim they did not spy on Trump but I am waving my BS flag furiously.

Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) said, “The idea that the FBI and associates of the Clinton campaign would pay Mr. Steele (Who is a retired British intelligence officer.) to investigate the Republican nominee for President in the run-up to the election raises further questions about the FBI’s independence from politics, as well as the Obama administration’s use of law enforcement and intelligence agencies for political ends.”
