Clarification is needed here. The statement by the lay Jewish leader states: “… our society must stand united at this time and not be turned against one another by extremists of any kind who wish to divide us. There can be no excuse for hatred. We stand firmly with Muslims who overwhelmingly reject the jihadists.”
First, regardless of whether Geller is or is not an extremist, does she intend overtly or covertly to divide society and cause harm or discrimination against all Muslims? (probably not)
Second, has there ever been any organized effort by the Board of Deputies of British Jews, or any other Jewish organization, to determine which Muslims or groups of Muslims reject jihad and the imposition of sharia on society? (probably not) Is the statement an empty rhetorical promise to stand with Muslims without having any basis to determine who those Muslims actually are who reject jihad? (probably yes) The statement does sound like they assume that all or most Muslims who reject the violent jihad also do not wish to impose sharia and the rest of Islamic doctrine. (untrue) We’ve seen how that assumption is foolish and uninformed.

I have a friend who is an apostate, and he would agree with your statement, he gave me similar sentiments after his pilgrimage to mecca to get married, went in “devout” and came back an apostate.
He thought what he learned in Mosque here in Brooklyn NY were just words with no call for action, after his pilgrimage he came back a changed man, he found out in Mecca that he was supposed to take actions against friends, neighbors and co workers. Empty words no more.
Now he is trying to find a new place to live since he shares a 2 family home with his parents, and he is terrified of what they will do to him and his new wife if they find out.
As far as Moderate Muslims, they are cowards, they are not brave enough to stand up for their religion, and this came from someone who was fairly devout though he considered himself “moderate” at the time. The Moderate Muslim sits on his hands in public and says nothing while cheering in mosque, where real muslims scream in arabic wherever they can to be heard, and whisper sweet nothings in english.

Totally right. I have Jewish family and while a few are wide awake to Islam, most are functioning in a cowardly sort of la-la-land of self-delusion. One synagogue in Toronto actually presented to Muslims of a mosque a fancy Qur’an. I think that they actually delude themselves that regardless of what the Qur’an teachers about Muslims hating Jews above even Christians, this kindly and cowardly act will somehow delay Muslim desires to murder Jews.

The cult wasn’t around then — the incident was (I believe) about 70AD when the Romans finally succeeded in overcoming the citadel to find that all the Jews had either been killed (the story is that lots were drawn for the ten who did the killing) or committed suicide. I don’t know if they still do this, but every new soldier in the Israeli army used to make a trip to the top and sware “Never again!”

You’re right, Mark, among other things that this Jonathan Arkush wallows in cowardly delusion and ignorance. His attitude and that of many others stems from horrible ignorance and a total lack of understanding of Islam and the position of importance held by Mohammad. As Christopher Hitchens once said on tv regarding the story of Mohammad and how the Qur’an came to exist, “it’s all bullshit”, and so it is. An illiterate man, Mohammad, goes the story, was visited by the angel Gabriel who ‘revealed’ all this codswollop to him. In fact the Qur’an was written 240 years after Mohammad’s death! So the whole thing is “bullshit”, but “bullshit” or not devout Muslim believe this rubbish and nothing is going to change as long as this hate literature exists. Their “perfect man” – in fact a perfect piece of pigs excreta – taught them to hate Jews above all others and nothing is going to change. I write to praise, commend, honor and extoll Mr. Jonathan Arkush, who represents the best of British Jewry in a world torn by cynicism and strife.
Let us meet senseless hate with increased efforts to pursue interfaith dialogue. Extremism cannot be allowed to win. What we have here is a failure to communicate.
Let not the tragedy of London’s vehicular bloodshed be compounded by our own intolerance and rejection of the Other. This is what this courageous British Jewish leader is teaching us — and demonstrating through his gracious example.
