The Clinton Global Initiative, the former first family’s fundraising and aid organization for mostly overseas projects and programs, has quietly shut doors in the wake of the presidential election, though watchers of mainstream media may not have heard the news.
There’s an interesting theory about that – but first, a look at the media silence.
The shuttering, apparently, took place on January 12, yet most of the major networks seem most reluctant to report on it.
As Media Research Center’s Scott Whitlock wrote:
“The shuttering of the Clinton Global Initiative in the wake of Hillary Clinton’s brutal election loss hasn’t resulted in any interest from the three networks. ABC CBS and NBC have skipped the news that the division of the Clinton Foundation will lay off employees and close in April. CGI filed notice with New York on January 12, but news outlets began reporting it on January 16. On Monday and Tuesday, despite a combined 17 and a half hours of morning and evening air time, the networks punted. …
“What did ABC, CBS and NBC cover instead? On Tuesday, Good Morning America devoted 5 minutes and 41 seconds to Dancing With the Stars. The Today show offered up 4 minutes and 33 seconds to a story on ‘how to vacuum’ and ‘how to mop.; CBS This Morning focused on actor Denzel Washington for 8 minutes and 12 seconds.”
Breitbart, meanwhile, had some thoughts on why the sudden shuttering of CGI.
“I think it’s just further confirmation to what we always believed, which is that their charitable activities really were directly linked to their political power, and now that that political power is gone, really honestly for the first time in 25 years – think about that – 25 years the Clintons have been on the national political stage. They’re gone, and they’re essentially saying, ‘Look, there’s no need or purpose behind doing this charitable work, so we’re just going to shut it down.’ It’s a pretty remarkable step on their part,” said Peter Schweizer, author of Clinton Cash and a senior editor-at-large for Breitbart.
If that’s the case, then it’s clear why the mainstream media doesn’t want to report on the development. It could mean yet another scandal for the Clintons.
