The Washington Post eats crow:

Donald Trump is the president-elect of the United States of America, and he did it by completely blowing up the electoral map and all of our projections and expectations of it.

To wit:

  • Trump won his “must-win” states of Ohio, Florida and North Carolina in races that were called on Tuesday night.
  • He won his other apparent “must-win” state, blue-leaning swing state Pennsylvania, which was called for Trump early Wednesday morning.
  • Not stopping there, he won two states in which he didn’t even campaign until the final week of the 2016 election: Michigan and Wisconsin. These, like Pennsylvania, are states that have long eluded the GOP’s grasp and didn’t seem likely to be winnable for Trump.

All of this disproves the idea, which we and everyone else have espoused early and often, that Trump’s path to victory was narrow. It wasn’t. It was broad. We were wrong. The polls were wrong. We fundamentally misunderstood this election. We thought Hillary Clinton might be winning red states. But Donald Trump won blue states.

Washington Post polling director Scott Clement talks with Ed O’Keefe and Elise Viebeck about why the glut of polls didn’t predict the outcome of presidential race. (Gillian Brockell/The Washington Post)

It was looking like he had to win Florida, Ohio and probably both Pennsylvania and North Carolina. He won all four, but he didn’t even need to. Trump’s win in Wisconsin and apparent victory in Michigan (where he leads but the AP hasn’t made a call) are just the icing on the cake at this point. It looks like the electoral college won’t even be close.

[the_ad id=”83350″]

Tuesday morning, we ranked four possible Trump paths to victory, with each of them going through Florida and Ohio at a minimum. Giving Trump Michigan or Wisconsin was the least likely of the four outcomes, and we assumed only one of them might flip. It was considered unlikely, but worth entertaining.

But if you gave Trump either Michigan or Wisconsin, getting to 270 was much easier. And indeed, as they came on to the board Tuesday night, Trump’s odds of winning the presidency skyrocketed. He suddenly didn’t need to win Pennsylvania anymore. He just had to add Florida, Ohio, North Carolina (all three of which are now won) and Iowa and Michigan to win. If he took Wisconsin rather than Michigan, he’d need to add either New Hampshire to get over the top, but that’s looking increasingly very doable.

Trump won all of his “must-win” states, anyway, and then added some states that we barely gave him a chance in, proving that everything we thought we knew about the polls and the electoral map was wrong. Wrong, wrong wrong.

With apologies to Gene Pitney…
When hillary clinton gave a speech the women folk knew she lied, she lied
When hillary clinton was around arabs would give her bribes
Cus the number before the million bucks is the only thing she understood
When it came to treason for a price, she was mighty good
From out of the east a man came, policy in his hand, a man
The kind of a politician the west would need to tame a jihadist band
Cus the size of a bribe was the only thing that hillary understood
When it came to cash flow from the arabs, she was mighty good
Many an email would face delete, into wiki leaks it would fall
The man who leaked them to the world
He was the bravest of them all.

How about you go study why and how the electoral college was established. Learn it’s purpose and IF you understand it, then come back and tell us how unfair it is. It is my guess that you have no understanding at all of the electoral college and I doubt you could prove that the electoral college ever voted against the will of the people, even if the candidate with the higher popular vote does not win the electoral vote.

Trump did run ads in California, despite the fact that California was certain not to go for him. They were slick ads, full of emotional appeal and empty of facts. Much like his campaign.

(I voted for Hillary, and have no regrets about that — I was enthusiastic since she gave us detailed proposals rather than just asking us to trust her. I am sad about what will happen to our country under Trump — a wannabe rich kid who will enrich himself at our expense — but I’ll be fine. Given how Kansas reelected Brownback, and the US reelected George W Bush in 2004, I won’t be surprised if Trump is elected a second time — but I will do what I can to make the country better regardless.)

The electoral college is unfair. Supposedly it gives small states influence. But in reality it does not as it just gives a voice to swing states. It perverts the 1 person 1 vote philosophy as small states votes are worth more electoral college votes but the smallest states are still quite irrelevant.

Theoretically a candidate can win by just winning 11 of the biggest states with the electoral college.

Because under the law, if the baby draws a breath it not a still born or abortion, it’s murder to not provide aid or for the mother to just leave it there.

Tabitha
Tabitha

Charles, I understand the law is the reason the hs girl is shown no mercy for smothering her baby and putting it in a trash can which is what happened. I’m just asking for the moral difference. If someone reaches up inside her womb, tears off the baby’s limbs and crushes its head, that’s okay? It can feel this. It is not an easy death. There are even more grisly stories about failed abortions where the medical personnel finish off the kid even after it has taken a breath. They choke it or bash in its head. All part of procedure.
There is a video of a baby trying to find a safe place from the foreign object that’s entered the womb trying to kill it.

Also, if the life of the mother is in danger during delivery, then deliver by C-Section and not birth canal. If a woman’s life is in danger in the last week before her delivery, then the doctor must have missed something along the way. And regardless of whether or not the baby will be delivered alive or dead, partial birth abortion still requires a vaginal birth. It’s not “saving the mother” as much as it is “murdering the baby”.

Maybe it will cause them to stop and think about what they are about to do when they give themselves to some guy just for the experience, or because they think he loves them. If a woman is raped, then if she decides to abort, I don’t think anyone will hold it against her, even though there is always adoption. Why make the child pay for the sins of the parents?

Someone having an abortion does not affect you.. it does not concern you.. How about all of you take a long look in the mirror and work on being better human beings. Whoa there-having been on the receiving end of someone deciding it was not the man’s call (she sabotaged birth control) and having paid more child support than I had left to live on every month (before paying living expenses for them I may add). There is a responsibility on the part of the man; yes, absolutely: but the woman who uses that responsibility as a club is really reprehensible.

How about a fathers right to watch his child grow up. If it’s a rape then carry the child to term and give it to someone who will love that child. I know a woman who was raped and she carried that child and when it came time to give her daughter up for adoption she changed her mind . She raised the daughter and now has five grand babies from that daughter. She was 15 at the time and made the decision on her own her stepfather wanted her to have an abortion. I’m so proud of her . She is my cousin and best friend .

Do you seriously believe that crap coming out of your mouth? Even without Roe vs. Wade, women wouldn’t be in “back alleys with wire hangers”, there still the Abortion pill available. What would change is them being able to wait 24 weeks before deciding to kill their baby.

Hedvig Linse
Hedvig Linse

You cant wait that long to “decide”. After 20 weeks you can only abort if the baby is severly damaged (wont survive birth) or if carrying the fetus to term will kill the parent.
Until you can get pregnant (which I assume you can’t) Or you know go the educated way and learn about what a pregnancy is.
You shouldn’t voice your ignorant opinions here and teach tons of stupid people (who wont google or study) and don’t just prejudice women cause you have nothing better in life to do.
Such a late abortion is not an easy thing for the woman, it’s a very painful procedure that can leave lasting damages to a womans psyche and body. An abortion that late is also often an abortion of a wanted child that sadly wouldn’t have survived eitherway, so to save the mother they take it out.

I’ve been pregnant and the Dr told me I’d die if I didn’t abort the baby. I refused and stayed in the hospital for the last two months . Then my Dr performed a c-section and I had a beautiful baby girl. She’s now the mother of four beautiful children , two stepchildren and three of the most precious grandchildren God ever created . Do you think Dr’s know it all? Sometimes they make mistakes and sometimes those mistakes live a full life . So just because you believe abortion is OK don’t forget others will and can disagree without you calling them names . But that the liberal way of doing things . This is in reply to hedvig linse.

yes, without these two states which represent under 20% of all Americans Trump would have won popular vote by 4-5 millions and had more than 2 times more electoral votes than HRC which shows that CA and NY are out of touch with the rest of US.

My take on this: it is a Wicked Basketball that Trump won 306 points by 232, but lost on number of shots at 56000 by 56200. But guess what, the rules are that game is won by points, not by shots and if it was by shots it’d be a different game which would have been played differently with unknown results so there is no point (pun intended) to argue about number of shots.

FinCen has it documented as well as many other periodicals. If Trump is on the up and up why was he not doing his part to fight against the funding of terrorism? Not to mention all the loans he refused to pay, the contractors he hired he stiffed.. He’s made his billions off the backs of a long list of his constituents.. He conned several people with Trump University which was NOT a university at all. You have to have appropriate accreditation in order to earn this. He sold property to people for a resort he was building in Mexico that is going bankrupt.. Yeah.. more people screwed/conned out of money.. New York put a cease and desist on the Trump Foundation accepting “donations” as it wasn’t properly licensed .. but only after he used the majority of the money to pay his fines and buy a self portrait.. He calls that “OPM” (Other Peoples Money..he doesn’t like to spend his own) His trial for fraud an racketeering is set to begin this month.. She received slightly more individual votes because liberals tend to clump together into metropolitan voting districts. They voluntarily dilute their votes by being sp densely populated into an area that only counts for just one or two electoral votes. Once they win that electoral vote, any additional votes in that district — by rational design of the founding fathers — can not equate to more electoral votes.

If your three person household lived next door to the Duggars, should their 20+ person household dictate the laws your average household lives under?

The Electoral College. It brilliantly prevents the “Tyranny of the Majority” while providing equal opportunity to vote for how we run the nation. Remember that straight democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting for “what’s for dinner”.

Electoral votes are apportioned by state. Either side – REP. or DEM. – need to win the WHOLE state to get the electoral votes for that state.

Maine and Nebraska are the only two I know of that split the electoral vote. We have the census every 10 years just so we can adjust the electoral votes as required. Winner take all rules that state the winner of the popular vote in that state gets all the Electoral Votes for that state. Repeal those laws and the electoral votes would be divided according to the winners in their district. As it was intended originally.

Same difference — Liberals clump together in urban metro areas. Same effect. Once Los Angeles and San Fran have secured all electoral votes, every additional vote beyond that does nothing for their electoral voting power. This does not mean the majority of the country voted for Clinton. It means the majority of urban metro areas voted for Clinton. And there is no argument to be made that the Urban Metro areas should dictate for the entire rest of the nation.

If liberals want to trash their own areas, the founding fathers provided for States Rights so that each state could do it’s own thing. Forget for the moment that Liberals have steadily eroded states rights at every opportunity via federal over-reach, why should LA, Chicago, NYC, San Fran dictate for KS, AK, AL and all the states in the middle? And by the same token, what do MS, AL and GA know about what’s best for CA and NY? The Electoral college attempts to prevent that “tyranny of the majority” and this election proves that in spades.

MS, AL and GA could not care any less about how they do things in NY or CA. However, for some inexplicable reason, CA and NY Liberals can’t seem to bear the thought that folks in other states don’t agree with them and they will not be satisfied until everyone validates their point of view in total, unquestioning agreement -OR- all opposition is silenced or marginalized. Don’t believe me? Disagree with liberal orthodoxy and watch them protest, riot, burn & loot. They are sort of like the Taliban without the public beheadings and stonings. Well, so far anyway…

I have already said, as clear as I could say it, that I have no problem with the Dems winning the EC. They have done it before and they can do it again. Just as the GOP has won the popular vote before and they have won the EC. I accept the agreed upon rules for an election. I refuse to accept a retro-active change in the rules if my side (or your side) loses.

If you can get the election process changed to whatever you prefer and you can convince the majority of states to agree with you for next time, more power to you. Get busy. I believe I’ve already told you that too.

And what do you mean, that when I argue something the burden is on me?? Please give facts and figures that prove the burden is on me. That’s actually a rhetorical question as I would rather you just be intellectually honest. Like most everyone else.

And now you demand I define the term “Metro”? Jayzus you liberals are an intellectually dishonest bunch. And yes, you are clearly Lib/Prog and anti-federalism. You can deny it, but no one will believe you as you have demonstrated it with each post so far. So Google “Define: Metro”. I refuse to do the job that the public school system failed to do with you.

And I never once said “big cities”. Following *your* lead, please cite the post where I said “big cities”. I have consistently said that liberals tend to clump together in metro areas (be a big kid and use google if the word is too big for you).

You haven’t been able to dispute a thing I’ve said. You’ve offered nothing but intellectually dishonest replies. I have no desire to play your trollish game any further. You and your liberal comrades demanded Trump accept the result of the election in October. Now you are whining like immature brats and refusing to accept the results after Trump won, fair and square. I will not engage a hypocritical troll any further unless you suddenly decide to start being intellectually honest. If you do, I will reply. I think all the districts hold the same number of voters. That’s why we have the census every 10 years, states that have lost significant numbers in population lose Electoral Votes. States that have gained population, gain Electoral Votes. Problem is the winner take all rules so many states have in place, says the popular vote in a state determine where all the Electoral votes go. Look at Maine. They repealed their winner take all rules and part of their 4 Electoral Votes went red.

The majority should dictate who wins elections. If the duggars family voted for a candidate then theirs should win over the 3 people. Would it not be a rather perverse system that would overturn the votes of the majority? The way the tyranny of the majority is prevented is via separation of powers and the constitution / judiciary as well as federal / state tiers of government.

How does the metropolitan argument work given that situation did not exist in the day of the founders according to census data?

TS Atomic
TS Atomic

Yes, it *WOULD* be a rather perverse system where the majority of voters in Metro areas decided for all states — and viewing results county by county, the vast majority of Clinton’s support was from metro areas – even in those areas where the metro area was not enough to swing the entire state (like Houston TX, Jackson MS, Detroit, MI, Tuscon, AZ and on and on. We are a republic of federated states and states you must win – not *just* metro areas. This prevents the tyranny of the metro areas from infecting and dictating the entire rest of the nation. The vast majority of the nation does not want to be LA, San Fran, Detroit, etc. — but by the same token the vast majority of the nation is not demanding those metro areas change to be more rural either. The Metro areas on the other hand, simply can’t bear the thought that not everyone agrees with their point of view – evidenced by these rabid, feral liberals rioting violently because… because… well, no one really knows and the rioters can’t articulate it, other than , “we didn’t get our way!” All the more reason why the EC brilliantly protects the rest of the nation from political leadership selected by rabid, feral liberals..

Your analysis seems to be based on current elections. Would you think differently if the top 11 states electoral votes went to Clinton and it was due to metro votes from those areas giving her 51% of the vote?

Why must metro areas not dictate the winner if they do hold the most votes? You cited the founding fathers intention for this when 95% of the population in the 1790 census lived in areas of less than 2.5k. Today i think only like 20% of the population lives in such areas,

I dunno why this is a partisan issue given both parties are quite capable of winning the popular vote and it would probably be in republican interest in the long term to change it as Texas will likely turn purple at some point. That way they can at least salvage some of those red votes. They’d also get a good number from California if it wasn’t winner takes all (Romney would have gotten 20 out of 55 and likely more if it was popular vote).

LA cannot even reliably determine statewide elections like the governorship (4 of the last 7 were Repubs who did not win LA).

What are the facts and figures you are using to define metro areas? The top 50 cities only account for 15%. I think the top 100 account for 20%. If you take census data definition for urban population then 80.7% live in such places.

TS Atomic

I don’t have a problem with Dems winning the EC. They have done it before. They can do it again.
What I *DO* have a problem with is spoiled brats who lost fair and square under known election rules & procedures wanting to effectively change the rules and the outcome after the fact.

Future elections are fair game. If you want to change the rules, all I can say is that you better get busy.

As it is. the largest population states already have the EC stacked in their favor with a number of electors based on population (via # of representatives which is based on population). The election could not have been structured more fairly for the states. And as a republic of federated states, that is exactly what you need to win for a national election — STATES.

Kaitlin Barnett
Kaitlin Barnett

Reply to  TS Atomic

Any change now would hardly affect this election cycle. But movements like this have actually come up in the past – 30 states actually pledged to pass a constitutional amendment in the 60s. The national popular vote inter state compact has signed up 61% of the required 270 electoral votes in only 9 years which is relatively fast given the time it can take even for relatively simple changes.

Electoral college votes are actually advantageous to small states, not large states since states get +2 bonus. Otherwise some low population states might only have 1 or zero if it was possible.

What is your view on Nebraska and Maine’s electoral vote system? They do not have winner takes all. States are just people, why should the rural vote of Maine not be able to have their vote reflected by sending 1 of their electoral votes to Trump rather than all 4?

If it was based on a national popular vote then even if they won every vote in CA and NY it would not be enough. Early on the electoral college actually allowed Virginians to have an outsized influence on the presidency, such that 4 of the first 5 presidents were from Virginia – also the state with highest population due to slaves. Without slaves, the northern states would likely have dominated even with electoral college.

Though not necessarily common, getting more national votes and losing the election has happened in the past. It’s the electoral college design. See https://goo.gl/GuVcFV

Yes she received 200K more votes from California ,which Trump never steped a foot in because he knew it was lost ,HRC won the state by 2.5 million …she could have won one or two million more it would made no difference in her loss ,she only won 4 states Trump won all the rest .

I’m not gambler but when was owning a casino illegal, especially to the liberal mind set? Sin City is where the libs love to go! All of a sudden, liberals get all righteous. Making money in there world is wrong? Look at it this way, he could have lost his shirt in the Casino world. He created jobs, he took a risk in every way. The Hillary giveaway is that Trump should share his profits with the employees. I ask you, should he share his losses too?!!! Oh no, not the losses. It’s like wanting to buy a lottery ticket but are afraid of losing. Your friend on the other hand buys one and wins. Risk and reward. We have equal opportunity not equal outcomes!

Well, my theory on this has to do with how there are high concentration areas of liberal voters, ie. Chicago, L.A., San Fran, New York City, which make up a large portion of the American population. Also, Dems usually get the entire northeast section of the county. While Trump won more states, she received support in highly populated areas which are mostly comprised of liberal voters. I’ve been against the electoral college for sometime and have felt it didn’t accurately reflect the majority of American voters, but have seen a different side after this election. The current system makes it more geographically fair, though Dems still do have the advantage, and other parties typically have to work much harder. Anyways, that’s my theory; she had the popular vote due to highly concentrated areas where the liberal culture strives and continues to grow. In addition to this, if Republican voters hadn’t been so divided, Trump would have easily beat her in the popular vote.

If no one has responded, it’s because the majority of the population are clumped in very small areas, and if we used the popular vote, none of the other voices would be heard over these very small regions. The electoral college allows for a broader range of population to be heard.

abraba, not sure if you are really asking the question or just trying to be snarky, but it would be worthwhile to read more about our electoral college – the founding fathers were brilliant in their implementation of this “top layer” vote and it has held for more than 200 years. The purpose of this system was to make sure that election of the president was not completely in the hands of the most populous areas of the country – mostly cities. Rather, it gives a voting voice to rural less populated areas on a proportional basis. The number of electoral votes for each state is a fixed number regardless of number of voters showing up on election day. So each state determines for itself – by popular vote – how those electoral votes will be allocated. So there is a popular vote – but it is at the state level to reflect the particular perspective of that state.

She won the popular vote by a small margin. The electoral college is what decides who wins, so that big cities like New York and Los Angeles don’t decide for the whole nation who will be President. The founding fathers knew what they were doing when they set up the Electoral College, this is a classic example of why we need it.

LA cannot even decide the governorship of their own state, never mind the nation (CA governors like Arnie, Reagan and others won without winning LA). Why do people keep repeating this myth?

If there was a popular vote then it would no longer make sense to think of geographical areas because all areas would have voters of different parties and their votes would count towards the nationwide tally. Some areas seem more partisan than they really are because if you live in a partisan state alot of people don’t bother voting because they know it is not competitive.

That’s not even a rational reply to what I said. All you’ve done is repeat your previous point. It is also irrational to say the founding fathers knew what they were doing, they didn’t. Their very system broke down after the first 2 elections. They wanted the electoral college to select the best candidate. They didn’t like political parties. But from then on they formed and joined parties themselves and the electoral college did not select the best candidate but merely acted as delegates for the state vote as per the state rules. That wasn’t what they directly intended but they did give the power to states to decide. So the states could very well have not decided to let Trump win if it operated as per the founders original wishes.

Basically you are trying to pretend the founders intended something they did not. For me it is fine that he won since that is how the system operated for so long and everyone knew the rules. But I won’t rewrite history.

because CA has lot’s of people….the founders of this country were very smart. They set it up so that one or two large states do not get to vote themselves “in charge” of the others. Also the vote counting is not done, it will be pretty close in the end.

No just evidence that we don’t live in a Democracy but a Republic and that the reason we have an Electoral College is working fine. She won the popular vote because she’s a Liberal and they always do well in population centers with low-income, low-education voters who relay on the continuation of liberal programs. The Founders understood that pure Democracy doesn’t work, the whole two wolfs and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner thing.

The huge (Democrat) population in Kalifornia, New York, Chicago, the enclaves of the Eastern Seaboard, the salents around the Great Lakes, and the (rest) of The Left Coast in Oregon and Washington give over-kill of Democrat votes – – Unfortunately for them only The electoral votes of The Electoral College count, (The electoral votes is equal to the number of representatives in the House plus the 2-Senators of each state). Thus, The Popular vote means nothing – – it’s all about The Electoral College.

The Constitution is about a balance of power. It won’t allow a few (4) big state to bully small states. If we relied on popular vote then California, Texas, Florida and New York would pick our presidents every time. Let California, Texas, Florida and New York do what they want at the state level. Federal law includes all the states. It’s a simple concept.

Kaitlin Barnett
Kaitlin Barnett

What is the total % of the population of those states? How could they overcome the rest of nation? You realize that under the electoral college that one can win with just the 11 most populous states? Texas will turn purple in the future and possibly blue in the longer term. So a national popular vote would probably be wiser as everyone’s vote will count regardless of state.

In the early days, the 4 of the first 5 presidents came from Virginia due to their electoral college power as well as the other slave owning southern states since slaves bumped up their electoral college vote. So the electoral college can in fact do what you want to avoid.

I wouldn’t call HRC’s alleged 2% popular vote a big win; not to mention the fact that she’s a sore loser and has resorted to using her ‘pocket media’ to stir-up rioting and chaos across the nation. Surely you must have heard about what’s been going on, haven’t you?
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/220150

As for President Elect Donald J. Trump, you’re mistakenly relying on word of mouth rather than ‘facts’ to dictate your alleged knowledge of Mr. Trump. I’ve read just about everything in print about him, and also what was available on television and video documentary.
You’re way off base with your statement that Mr. Trump making his millions via ‘crooked casino deals’; his solo business dealings began with a 1 ‘million’ dollar loan from his father, Fred.

Mr. Trump is a multi-billionaire who happens to have a variety of successful real estate holdings that include a clothing line, wineries, golf courses, hotels, and various manufacturing.
His adult children work with him and also have their own successful business ventures.

You should read his biography or, at the very least, take the time to see this video:

Van was asking what to tell his children. Here’s what you tell him. Well son.daughter, Obama, the first black president of the US assassinated a leader in the middle east. He toppled multiple regimes after saying he would stop the wars and bring home the troops. He called the war against Afghanistan, “the good war” even though Afghanistan never attacked us and Osama was found in Pakistan. He has killed thousands of people with drone strikes in countries with whom we are not at war. Our troops come home from deployment and commit suicide. So if you think Trump is bad, you really have to understand that when Clinton said, “what difference does it make?” after lying about the murders of 4 Americans in Benghazi, the decent human beings in the US said, no, we’ll take a guy who hasn’t been under FBI investigation for half his life over this dingbat. That’s what you tell your children, Van, you disgrace.

The Democrats didn’t put up any black candidate, and Ben Carson didn’t make it through the Republican primaries, so there was no black man topping the ticket this time. That took race out of the picture in the general election.

We stayed up till three am doing the same thing, it was amazing. They kept saying it was the uneducated white people who had done this. They couldn’t believe it. They must have said uneducated a thousand times. It was pure gold to watch their faces as it became obvious that we did it, we elected Trump. And we’re not exactly uneducated idiots. We’re both small business owners. I’m so optomistic right now, things might actually get better!

More regulation for businesses. Higher pharmaceutical prices. More regulation for commercial fishing that generally comes with a liberal government that gives too much power to the EPA. Loss of jobs because they were outsourced. More red tape for businesses to go through at startup. I’m hoping for term limits although it’s a long shot. Hoping that it is made easier for new drugs to be developed and sold. Right now the pharmaceutical companies have a stranglehold on that. Lifting the restrictions on buying certain things across state lines like insurance. Hell yea. Look what it did for our car insurance rates here in Massachusetts. Less regulation. Less interference in our lives of government. Being able to see a cross or nativity set downtown if someone wants to put it there. A reasonable amount of welfare reform so there is more money available for those who need it. A program for infrastructure that will create jobs. I’ve wandered a bit and now I’m saying what I am looking forward to. My apologies. But you get the gist of it.

Why do you suppose Trump outsourced jobs? Why would ANYONE outsource to another country? Pay attention and I’ll draw that picture for you. Trump has said, over and over, that high corporate taxes and too many regulations have caused the cost of manufacturing in the US to increase exponentially. ANY person, wishing to make money on his product, including YOU, is going to go where the cost to produce is the lowest, and right now, that is NOT in America. His motivation is to reduce corporate tax, which YOU, the consumer, ultimately pays anyway, and reduce ridiculous regulations so that companies can return to America to produce their products. It doesn’t take a high level of economic acumen to follow that. Actually, it’s pretty shameful to even have to point it out to anyone who has reached the chronological age of majority, with the exception of the developmentally delayed.

Reply to  Larry Mccarty

Yes, we are all acutely aware of the hostile business climate Obama has created here in the US. Moving his manufacturing offshore shows Trump has business acumen. The over regulation and over taxation of the Obama regime has made it nearly impossible to start a profitable business here. After President Trump has undone the mess Obama, and to be fair, many past Presidents, created then his companies will be able to bring back those jobs.

Try stifling over-regulation of small businesses that makes growth extremely difficult if not impossible. Obama has been a tyrant to business in general but especially to small business with his big-government intrusive over-regulation. Trump will fix that.

I was really offended by their definition of uneducated. It shoud not mean you don’t have a college degree. What you get from college may be some education but also a lot of brainwashing, and I know about as many brilliant and well educated people without degrees as those with. There’s a quote attributed to Mark Twain (guesswork?) about it: “I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.”

I do have a college education, but you did hit the nail on the head. At one time, a person could get a good education in an institution of higher learning (and probably still can, in some disciplines), but I rarely encourage people to spend their money on these indoctrination centers today. Anyone can obtain a wealth of knowledge by himself and there are many career paths that do not require a college degree. One of my most proud accomplishments is having graduated from institutions of higher learning with my conservative perspective intact.

Thank you for your very kind words! We actually learned REAL history, regarding the founding of this great nation and I believe our Founding Fathers were brilliant in the creation of our founding documents that give a clear roadway to keeping our government on the same track as they created. I also believe that it is the best government that this world has ever known…it hurts NO ONE and gives everyone an opportunity to excel to his own level of ability and desire. You don’t find that in any other form of government.

Clinton won the popular vote over Trump, even if under populated rural areas loved Trump. So liberals are here and still strong! Might be a tough couple years, that’s OK. Your pride in mocking and laughing at mere political opponents, suggesting people should be hung, and reveling in the idea of their committing suicide… Yet you wonder why you are called deplorable. I don’t think you’re making a great case for your humanity. Laughing like dogs indeed. I have asked NUMEROUS times for a liberal, ANY liberal, to name ONE thing about the liberal ideology that is congruent with the intentions and visions of our founding fathers as evidenced in our founding documents and there has NEVER been any one of the looney left who could answer that. NOT ONE of your ‘still strong’ liberals. It tells me that you don’t know history, have no grasp of what America has been and should be. Yes, mistakes have been made, but our founding documents and our Constitutional Republic (NOT A DEMOCRACY, as looney Obama and Clinton keep insisting) is the BEST form of government that has ever been in effect in the entire history of the world. I do not advocate people committing suicide or killing anyone, as seems to be an acceptable trait of the left, but I do truly believe that liberalism is an evil, destructive mindset. Murdering innocent unborn babies, encouraging lack of self control, self respect, and personal responsibility, STEALING from hard working people to support those who WILL NOT work to support themselves, supporting looney gender confusion and bizarre alternate lifestyles that are counter to God’s perfect plan, the dumbing down of the population, massive control of the people and resources, and the list of wacked out garbage from the liberal ideology goes on and on. There are NO depths too low for the left to sink. Now, ask yourself how and why you became such a twisted individual.

I go to A&M in Texas and was at a party during the election with some school friends…sometimes it seems like all students these days are liberals. They sure seem to think their views are shared by everyone else, and if they’re not, then that person must have some sort of mental disorder. They believe they’re so forward thinking, haha! I think of all the ways I could have spent the evening, that was the most entertaining. Keep in mind, these are Anthropology majors…the irony is palpable. They are supposed to be educated to be accepting of and sensitive to the fact that other people in this world have different views than them….pahahahahha, what a joke! So anyways, they were all throwing absolute fits…it was great. As the only Christian Republican among the group, I am never able to be myself or voice my opinion because the rest of them are just so loud-mouthed and obnoxious, and I just don’t want to hear it, you know? Plus, I respect that they have their own opinions and I’m not going to argue with them…gee, what a novel concept! So this was just the best…they were CRYING for Heaven’s sake! Screaming! Cursing! Drinking heavily! They were sincerely talking as if this were the end times or something…it’s just so funny. I just sat in the corner and soaked it all in…bathed in their whiny tears…relished their sobs. It was just fantastic. It felt like Karma for the past year and a half of Republican and Christian bashing I’ve had to put up with on a daily basis up there. These “progressives” think they’re so elite and that they have some sort of majority…pahaha. I think us decent folks have finally had enough and we showed up in droves to the polls. You step on snek, it’s going to turn around and bite you.

You’re right on one point. It wasn’t a revolution. It was a counter-revolution to the failed previous leftist agenda of ‘fundamentally changing the US’.

We love our US and don’t want it ‘fundamentally changed’. To ‘fundamentally change’ the country would be to overthrow it and put it out of existence – Obama tried hard to do just that and ultimately and thankfully failed.

As an Englishwoman, I watch all this with interest. It seems that those who lost won’t accept the result. The same happened with our EU Referendum in June, and the Scottish Referendum a couple of years ago. All they do is demand another go. ‘We didn’t get the result we wanted so we want another vote’. So what’s that all about then? What’s wrong with accepting the decision and then working together to sort out the problems? After all, people vote one way or another FOR A REASON.

Yes, and that is why Hillary Clinton received more actual votes than Donald Trump… Just like Albert Gore received more votes than Bush in 2000. President Obama wanted to work together to solve problems — he caught hell and racism, called every name in the book for the terrible crime of trying to provide health care for people, even if it was a messed up way to do it. I don’t see a lot of people on this comment board talking about “working together,” but instead about hanging people or telling them to commit suicide. I didn’t see Trump talking about “working together,” but suggesting that gun people shoot or “jail” his opponent, even suggesting that he could shoot someone himself and not be punished. And his followers love this, but wonder why they are called stupid fools.

Obama did NOT care about providing health care for anyone! That whole scheme was simply for the purpose of moving toward single payer (listen to Obama tell about his support for single payer), which would CONTROL a huge portion (one sixth) of the economy AND THE PEOPLE! Read that debacle, if you have the stomach for it. It is NOT affordable, by any means, and has decimated the health care industry. Obama is also a race baiter, and he is responsible for the massive division of people in this nation. He said we don’t operate on innuendo, but look what he did regarding that professor in New England when he said the police acted stupidly, or look at the Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown cases. He turned his back and was silent on the murder of Kate Steinle, as that would have been counter to his immigration stance. The evidence of the hatred and lack of caring about the populace and this great country on the part of Obama and Hillary is GLARING, yet you can’t see it. Now, I’d call that STUPID!

Everything you thought you knew about the American people was wrong. This has been simmering for years. Talk about the rich, poor, minorities, etc, but didn’t talk about the average American. Old folks like me are okay but worried about adult grandkids and great grandkids. We have seen our communities eroded along with education. Polls are skewed. Media bias just fanned the flames. The net, twitter etc exposes secrets. healthcare affects everyone. Obamacare is awful.

Candice Hiler

We oldsters have a great point of reference regarding what America was, and should be, that our younger generations do not have. They are not getting the education they need and deserve to preserve America as our founding fathers intended in our founding documents and do not even know how much they are lacking in their education. Now is the time to correct that and to also hold the feet of the elected to the fire…no time to rest on laurels here. We have a government OF the PEOPLE, BY the PEOPLE, and FOR the PEOPLE, so now it’s up to WE, the PEOPLE to work very hard to keep it on track. It’s not a choice…it’s an obligation and responsibility that has been paid for with the blood and lives of many! Step up, fellow patriots!

I appreciated the symbolism of wearing purple and may also do so for a while. More than the ‘old enough to wear purple,’…

The combination of red and blue is purple-if she meant it that way, it is the first thing I applaud her for-a subtle message perhaps, but a very visual statement encouraging America to come together, forget the hatred of the election nightmare and be a United country again. I thank her for wearing purple and will pray for her. Hating her only drags one down.
. Hopefully she can come clean on her errors, find a way to pay back where she has sold out, and negotiate a plea deal rather than dragging the country through the mud even more. Only she knows what the high road and low road is for her at this time; I wish her peace, and encourage her to take that journey to find it.

I’m going to tell you the real why it went over the top
you do know how many babyboomers in the usa right?? A BUNCH
Clinton told that she would reduce social security benefits for the retirees by 21 %
and give it in a social security benefit to those who were basically on welfare — she would consider welfare as income
but not take out 15% of the welfare benefits to go into social security–hence the 21% reduction for those who did work
for a living
did you see lines at polls? some of these old farts must have been pushing 100– canes- wheelchairs
they don’t get out to vote- haven’t for years
but 21% off the top means they would starve to death
Clinton already had all the ethnics in the bag–
the blacks LOVED the idea of shafting the old working class to get more free ride
but the children of the retirees—told their dear old parents about it and they voted in droves
also these old farts don’t answer the phone and take surveys–surprise surprise hillary

why do I want to pay a 40% tax on a movie ticket? it already cost $20 per person to see a movie and you want to add another $9.50 to that?

apparently I am misunderstanding your request or you didn’t explain it right..

well maybe yours, I’m 95% off grid, my solar and battery backup take care of my power, for 2016 I have used all of $75 in on grid power. I use a grey water reclamation system to trap drain water for toilet flushing and irrigation, so only need municipal water for showering and dishes, and that is about $40 a month.

my natural gas bill for my water heater and stove is about $8 a month, and fuel for my car, well that is taxed to hell, but driving a plug-in hybrid, my fuel bill for 2016 thus far is under $300 for the year.

So yeah maybe your utilities are cost more than they need to be, but I saw the writing on the wall 8 years ago, took full advantage of the “green” rebates and moved my home to as much off grid as possible. I have more than paid back the up front expense and I bank the ~$1000 a month in what would normally be paid out for gas and utilities.

40 300 watts panels and live in Southern California, I generate 45 KwH per day average, I use about 30 kwh a day on average, except in July/August/September with the HVAC is on all day, so the over generation 9 months out of the year gets used up in the 3 months of heat.

it’s all about proper planning and scaling the system, I started with 10 panels and added them slowly over 4 years until I was 100% offset from the grid.

You live in Southern Caliphornia? I feel your pain. I plan to get out of this trash dump of a state ASAP.
BTW, what did you think of your choice of US State Senator in Caliphornia? Isn’t it nice that the Demoratic party gave you a choice of two Demoratic candidates?

didn’t vote for either, lipstick on a pig IMO.

I make a good living here, won’t leave until my almost 90 year old mother passes on, I live close enough to her to be able to take her shopping and what not, but she is a crappy old nasty independent lady who won’t give up her home, and since she can take care of herself except for driving, I will hang out until she passes on. By then I will be able to sell her home and my home and move to the Midwest, buy a nice home 2-3 times the size of my Socal Cracker box and retire on the rest.

and your comment about the movie ticket tax would have affect on the Hollywood Elite, that would be a tax on the people who use that venue for entertainment. People won’t stop going to the movies because of it, so you would be punishing those you seek to help.

you want to punish Hollywood, you make them pay a production tax that cannot be rolled down to the consumer to offset.

And the mainstream media! They absolutely MUST be held accountable for their deception and bias.

Make them pay for what they did and penalize them severely. And this is a must –

All websites, that spout subjective opinions and propaganda under the cover of news, must be designated – Opinion news websites, not news websites.

Must read – Donald Trump 100-day action plan –

FIRST, propose a Constitutional Amendment to impose term limits on all members of Congress;
SECOND, a hiring freeze on all federal employees to reduce federal workforce through attrition (exempting military, public safety, and public health);
THIRD, a requirement that for every new federal regulation, two existing regulations must be eliminated;
FOURTH, a 5 year-ban on White House and Congressional officials becoming lobbyists after they leave government service
FIFTH, a lifetime ban on White House officials lobbying on behalf of a foreign government;
SIXTH, lift the Obama-Clinton roadblocks and allow vital energy infrastructure projects, like the Keystone Pipeline, to move forward

Thank you for your straight forwardness in this article re the Election outcome!
What an amazing feat for Mr. Trump! The crowds of people at the rallies were a good indication as to how this election was going! 25,000 or more showed up at the Melbourne Airport in Florida! Sterling Point Michigan was 30 plus thousand!

With this updated electoral college data, is it still true that Cln won the popular vote? Or, has that been updated as well?
Also, it was reported that Broward County (Fl) had 137% turnout, so some of those votes will be discarded.

First of all, to all my American friends and Mr. Trump supporters: Thank you, thank you, thank you – for casting your important vote for that candidate and thus electing your new president! America was standing on the brink of an abyss and self-destruction and your vote made all difference. And what difference it was! Because HRC presidency would be a disaster on unimaginable a scale. Thanks to you it was all avoided in time!

These comments are so disheartening. Trump won, what is the point of insults and death threats or worse, hoping someone commits suicide? Give her a noose and a chair? Insinuating that all HRC voters are on welfare? And the Birkenstock comment? Is that suppose to be a stampede of lesbians? Of course, can’t get through these comments without a few blows at Muslims. After all these comments you want to maintain that the Trump campaign is not riddled with racism, bigotry, hate? It’s the people behind comments like these who are so frightening, not Trump. If this election was really about taxes, social security and the misuse of government, then you all should’ve voted for Gary Johnson. Let us all be honest with ourselves here. Sincerely, a White, Christian, 1%er

The Republic was on it’s knees and a Hillary win would have brought in the new dark ages. A little celebration is OK. Poking fun and having go at the opposition is just fine and dandy as long as it’s only words and jail terms

Maybe you forgot about the “birddogging” at Trump rallies, backed by the Clinton campaign? Seriously, blocking roads, pelting women with eggs, ripping pro-Trump signs out of the hands of senior citizens while knocking them down isn’t frightening to you? These people were paid to disrupt these rallies while the media labeled them as violent TRUMP SUPPORTERS. You read too much into the Birkenstock remark, as I know it means the “college-educated professionals”, who are so much better and richer than the rest of us blue-collar families, group of people who think that THEY are the enlightened ones and if we don’t see it their way, we are the racists, Islamophobes, homophobes and isolationists. We are also a part of a 1%. But not your type of 1%, I am sure. We are the families of the 1% of men and women who choose to serve in the military, and I can almost guarantee you, the recruits into the military probably don’t come from Birkenstock wearing families.

Has anyone noticed a very strange and concerning trend recently? Muslims are around 1% of the total population of US, but recently, every 3rd or 4th news article has a muslim writer.

How is this possible? Especially on leftist websites. The next time you read a news piece on a leftist website, remember to check out the writer’s name. Here, see the writers of this news item posted just hours ago –
