John Podhoretz to Robert Spencer: “You piece of sh*t”

48

These tweets are shocking. I fell off my chair.

Of course, the great irony here is this: who has done more to corrupt both morally and intellectually the subject matter of the jihad doctrine and the real root causes of the jihad threat? Who is been more of a disgrace than the high-minded and elite Right who trimmed until there was nothing left but their own debased weakness.

John Podhoretz was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and swallowed it whole. Next to his father, he’s a midget. But he throws his rather considerable weight around using the influence that he’s inherited.

Story continues below advertisement

I would love to see Spencer and Podhoretz debate on the subject matter, but Podhoretz would never dare.

john-podhoretz

“John Podhoretz to Robert Spencer: ‘You piece of sh*t,'” by Robert Spencer, Jihad Watch, October 2, 2016:

This unfolded on Twitter, where you can read the entire exchange (minus Podhoretz’s tweets, which, interestingly enough, he deleted). It began when Commentary senior editor Abe Greenwald rushed to the aid of dishonest “journalist” Sohrab Ahmari:

abe-greenwald

In response, I invited Greenwald to debate me; he responded that to do so would be “punching down,” whereupon I pointed out that I had sold far more books than he or Ahmari, and thus in debating me and, presumably, defeating me, he could end my baneful influence forever.

That’s when John Podhoretz, editor of Commentary, columnist for the New York Post, and contributing editor of the Weekly Standard, jumped in:

john-podhoretz-name-calling-spencer-1

john-podhoretz-name-calling-spencer-2

What on earth set John Podhoretz off on this juvenile tantrum? Did I take his lunch money? Did I pull the football away when he was about to kick it? No, I’ve never met John Podhoretz. I’ve never had any interaction with him at all. So what accounts for his frothing-at-the-mouth, unhinged rage and hatred? Well, obviously he doesn’t like the things I say and the positions I take, although I would be surprised if he has read anything I’ve written and expect that he only knows my work from the characterizations of it by those who oppose it.

But that isn’t the point here. The point is that an increasingly large segment of the American intelligentsia — primarily on the Left but also putative conservatives such as Podhoretz — do not engage intellectually those whom they oppose, but resort only to mocking and vilifying them, as if to disagree with the positions taken by someone like Podhoretz or Greenwald, or others who do this such as Reza Aslan, is evidence not only of stupidity but of a moral failing (note Podhoretz above saying I’m a “disgrace” not only “intellectually” but “morally,” as if noting that Islam is not a religion of peace is tantamount to molesting children or stealing the savings of old ladies).

Podhoretz and others like them think that the truth of their positions, and the falsehood of mine, is self-evident and thus needs no discussion or debate: he will assert that my work is somehow destructive and obviously false, but when asked to defend his claim, contemptuously refuses. Those of us who hold the positions to which he objects, whatever they exactly are, just have to take his word for it: he is smarter than we are, he knows the subject better than anyone, and doesn’t have to demonstrate a thing or produce any evidence.

This is how political leaders and the mainstream media are behaving in all sorts of contexts these days, and people are getting fed up. The Brexit vote and the ascendancy of a man with no political experience to be the nominee of a major party are indications that growing numbers of people are tired of the elitism and contempt of people such as John Podhoretz. We don’t believe him, we don’t accept what he says at face value, and we have nothing but contempt of our own for his refusal to defend the positions he asserts with such such foul-mouthed swagger.

These emperors — John Podhoretz and so many others — have no clothes. We know it and they know it. Hence their rising fury, their static and impotent rage as their vacuity is increasingly exposed.

(Thanks to Mohamed the Atheist for the screenshots of Podhoretz’s tweets.)

Podhoretz would make a lousy geologist; specifically petrologist, a scientist that studies lithogenesis of rock types. It is spelled “schist”, Podhoretz! Your flunk my rock identification class! It is not “gneiss” to call Ms. Geller of Robert Spencer names, you ignorant twinkie!

In connection with volatile comments or conduct, my mother used to say to me: “always consider the source.” When doing that here, Robert Spencer, you must recognize that the commentary is coming from someone who obviously refuses to deal with reality. His approach to the reality that exists today, is that he cannot see evil, speak out against evil, nor hear the evil presented in the real world. He is a person who should be ignored, and probably vilified for his stupidity. I know you cannot let his comments “go in one ear and out the other,” but that is how we all must treat those who have simply buried their heads in the sand and conduct themselves like the three monkeys who see no evil, speak not about evil, and hear no evil. As you stated, this person is simply an overweight leftist who like Obama and his followers, refuses to see the “trees from the forest,” and avoids recognizing that the world of Islam has taken no effective steps to turn against the madness that is Islamic Fundamentalism. He is a narcissistic coward. Consider the source and reject his idiocy.

The good news is that each poster here – in his or her own way – has done just that. Yours has thoughtful eloquence, however. Well done.

John Podhoretz s another intellectual featherweight in the air head class. It is garbage like he spews that is bankrupting the lame stream printed media. No loss, he is another gag writer that gags on everything he writes, sucks and blows.

The “thing” abt living off your predecessor’s store is you can only eat your “seed corn”— even if you DO plant your second best— for just so long!

Ether you’ll run out of seed, or your crop will, in just a few generations (…quicker than you would think possible, too…) degrade to nothingness.

The quality of the Conservative’s so-called leading “Thinkers” shows we’ve been planting “the runts”, instead of our best for quite some time now!

Wikipedia says
“At The Weekly Standard, one staff member said, Podhoretz’s ‘arrogance and egotism had a psychological effect people can’t quite believe.’ At The Washington Times a colleague reported, he was ‘permanently frozen in juvenalia.’ Glenn Garvin, the Central American bureau chief of the Miami Herald, once said that at the Times, Podhoretz ‘constantly complained that his brilliance wasn’t appreciated.'”

Like another over-indulged brat, Bill Kristol, Pohoretz (the son, not the father) has blinded himself to the dangers of a Leftist third term.

“…his brilliance wasn’t appreciated.”
I can visualize that!

I once had the (mis-)fortune of finding myself randomly placed to share a table at a luncheon w/this buffoon.

Each table held six people, but at ours no one else could get a word in edgeways.
Not even w/a crowbar.

He spoke, ignorantly, sounding as one would who didn’t know his own mind: unintegrated ethical systems.

By “unintegrated ethical systems”, I’m referring to phenomena you see in a person in transition from emoting to thinking.

The person picked his answers to life’s (and society’s) moral dilemmas “1 from column A and 1 from column B”, w/o thinking through the ramifications and interactions of his choices… both w/his other choices and w/human nature.

He’s massively unconscious selfconscious… but then, he has good reason to be. This makes him quick to take offense, and to overreact when he does.

For a while I was convinced there must be two people named “John Podhoretz”! The luncheon sadsack and the semi-conservative commentor that most people respected .

I certainly saw no reason for people to be “wow-ed” by that guy!

I was flabbergasted when I saw him on television, b/c of course they are the same empty headed ignoramus!

John Podhoretz is part of a Neo-Conservative clique of people who write “conservative” articles in an element of the media. This includes the disgusting Bill Kristol of the “Weekly Standard”.. They basically brain washed the dumb gullible idiot George Bush to invade Iraq…..when Iraq NEVER attacked us!! Yeah we all see the genius of that decision LOL!!

Hey Thanks John Podhoretz….NOW we have ISIS all over the world THANKS to Neo-Con Idiots like you!!

After all of the chaos and mayhem George Bush’s invasion of Iraq caused…..Podhoretz then turned on Bush and threw him under the bus….and started to attack Bush on his mistake of invading Iraq. And this after months and months of Podhoretz beating the war drums to invade Iraq. What a hypocrite…not to mention a rat.

With friends like Podhoretz….you don’t need enemies.

Podhoretz is third-rate, punching above his weight as head of the family business.

I too have been on the receiving end of an e-mail from this guy.

I remember it exactly. It was one line: “Go soak your Head.”

My response: What are you – twelve?

His reply indicated some embarrassment – with some condescending invective.

Kind of sad really; perhaps there’s a personality disorder at work…

Do you see the schizophreic element in Podohertz’s background? He is a columnist for the far-left NYT and a contributing editor for the supposedly conservative “The Weekly Standard”? (I canceled my subscriptions to Weekly Standard and National Review long ago.) You cannot have it both ways. You gotta pick a side instead of arguing out of both sides of your mouth.

Mr. Spencer, I’m not about to defend Mr. Podhoretz’ tweet; but restricting myself to his difference of opinion with you, I don’t think it is that he thinks Islam is a religion of peace. He has foibles, but that is not conspicuous among them.

It would have been nice of him to say exactly what his difference of opinion with you is, but people aren’t nice when they’re angry enough to swear. I wonder what made him so angry? You apparently don’t know, either.
