Rasmussen: Americans Oppose Closing Schools on Muslim Holidays

72

I am surprised the number is only 50%. Ramadan marks a month of bloodshed, terror and murder. Why would any American parent want that honored?

If 50% of Americans oppose (17% are undecided), rest assured that the leftist elites will shove this down our throats.

The country is far too diverse for schools to observe every holiday. Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Pagan, Christian Scientist, Bahai ….

U.S. gov’t warns of Islamic State violence during Ramadan

“Americans Are Still Wary of Closing Schools on Muslim Holidays,” Rasmussen Reports, June 7, 2016:

Philadelphia is the latest major school system to add Muslim holidays to its official calendar, but Americans with school-age children still aren’t sure that’s such a good idea, although support’s up from a year ago.

[the_ad id=”78851″]

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 50% of American Adults with children of elementary or secondary school age oppose adding major Muslim holidays to the public school calendar in their community. Thirty-three percent (33%) favor adding these holidays to the official school list. Seventeen percent (17%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

(Want a free daily e-mail update? If it’s in the news, it’s in our polls). Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter or Facebook.

The survey of 1,000 American Adults was conducted on June 2 and 5, 2016 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

There should be 10 statutory holidays a year, None on fixed dates, allowing people to pick and chose what day they want to celebrate on. None of this mandating some cultural or cult superstition on everyone.

No Mate. There is a warrant (believe it or not) for my arrest in QLD due to my skipping bail after being arrested at a Land Rights demo in 1981 in Brisbane for the Commonwealth Games, but I am quite happy to celebrate Australia Day and also acknowledge that for others it is far from celebratory. Better the poms than the French I reckon. Was bound to happen one day. They had a good run…40,000 years or so.
I took an Aboriginal mate up Centrepoint tower once. I was really proud to show him. He walked around for 10 minutes saying nothing. Eventually I asked “What do you think of it?” (for non Sydneysiders, you get a 360 view of Sydney …beaches..the lot) . He replied, “Look what you white fellas done to my country”

I do get it Logic, but no…Australia Day is the day for me.

Well, as you look out and see the majestic Sydney Harbour, it is simply magnificent….to me. To an Aboriginal bloke, maybe he was able to imagine what the place looked like 240 years ago before James Cook arrived. Majestic and magnificent would not nearly describe what a paradise Sydney would have been then. He said what he said. I was just crestfallen. He seemed wistful. I think he was stating a fact…we fu*&ed it up.Are you Aussie?

I disagree. You come to this country, you abide by the rules of this country including which holidays are celebrated. The holidays we celebrate are part of the U.S. culture. If another ethnic group wants to celebrate a day that reflects their culture, they can take the day off work or their kids can be given a day off from school. Muslims have been here for decades without requesting special attention for their culture, and now is no time to start. Other ethnic groups have not asked for a special day nor should one be granted.

The thing I am more interested in is a holiday when the weather is nice. The climate is not always conducive to holiday festivities. The death toll over holiday weekends is a bit too much. Spread it out a bit. If muslims don’t like Christmas, then they can work that day, taking a day off that they do like. Much as I dislike islam, fair is fair.

“A nation is defined by its borders, language & culture!”

Nothing is fair about eroding the culture of the U.S. If the Muslims, the Hispanics, or any other ethnic group is interested in maintaining their culture, they can return to the country of their birth.

When cultures intermix, as the dam well better if there is any chance for peace and prosperity, a degree of compromise is necessary. Therein lies the problem, islam is violently ignorant, will not mix or compromise. It has got to go.

This suggestion makes some sense, although I believe July 4 should be untouched since it is strictly American independence. I will never worship at the altar of a Muslim holiday.

That is why holidays should be self administered if nothing else it would indicate what people believe, or do not believe in. Although any secular holiday, like Independence day, would be ok. If muslims serve beer and hot dogs at their “eid al fitr” block party, I might attend.

Too many Americans have forgotten 9;/11 and have returned to their comfort zone by whatever definition is applied. How many gave a second thought to a great naval victory off Midway Island that ended 74 years ago yesterday, June 7? Without victory at Midway in 1942, there would never have been a “D-day” in 1944. I digress …

On paper, Midway should’ve been a loss for the USN — although some superior technology liked radar and damage control helped offset the difference in carriers and planes.
If Midway had been a loss it would’ve merely delayed the inevitable. Russia wasn’t going away and they drowned the nazis in their own blood.

Yes, what you say is true. Interesting though how the media played up D-Day on 6/6/44 while reporting almost nothing about Midway. S’pose it was because that early in the war, the United States was hyper-cautious about allowing the media to cover any major engagement. Too many unknowns in 1942, and Guadalcanal hadn’t happened yet.

spacearcadian made essentially the same comment about three hours ago before this one (see below). I challenged him, pointedly but respectfully, on a couple of points, and he doesn’t have the decency, (or is it courage/knowledge?) to engage.

In other words, this guy appears just to want to spew forth his version of truth, but has no interest in defending it or learning himself. Makes him a d-bag in my book. I suspect he is a very good Moslem.

During the ’90s schools had to be vigilant because of all the craziness that surrounded April 20th, Hitler’s birth date. It was when we experienced Columbine, Waco, Ruby Ridge, and the OKC bombing. Trust me, the ragheads will soon use Ramadan as their occasion and excuse for death and destruction.

Well I figured this was coming! I saw a commercial on Ramadan and it showed a Muslim doing really nice things for others that don’t have much! Like buying a homeless man new shoes. That’s just one example. So is it about jihad or about helping people in need? Maybe that commercial was a little propaganda who knows. Before you know it these kids will have more days off than days in school learning! The US is already falling behind in education. Where do they draw the line? I’m surprised too that only 50% were against this! Crazy!

Zakat is where Muslims will show that they are good to bring others to Islam. They will not help others if it does not support Islam.

I wonder how many times Muslims have donated to Jews, Christian and other faiths disasters without promoting Islam. Probably kill.

zero, it is forbidden to use money collected for islam on non muslims. We do not know of any difference of opinion among the people of knowledge (ahl al-`ilm) that zakat on wealth cannot be given to a kafir Ibn al-Mundhir said, There is consensus of all those whose positions we know from the people of knowledge that a non-Muslim (dhimmi) cannot be given any zakat.

Zakat Cannot Be Given To Non-Muslims

How do you figure Islam “belongs in America”?

Islam has no historical roots in this country. The nation was founded on a tradition that is wholly at variance with Islam. In fact, much of the motivation for the early European settlement of the United States was religious liberty, something Islam denies per tradition and religious canon to non-Moslems. Yeah, yeah, you can be a dhimmi and worship more of less as you please at the sufferance of the caliph, but you exist as a second class citizen who must live in subserviance to an ideology of supremacy that has no place among free men and women who yearn to think for themselves. Thanks, but no thanks.

It is entirely possible that some of Columbus’ crews were Moslem. Could you provide some documentation in support of that claim?

But in any case, they probably never set foot in North America, and they did not remain in the New World, and they certainly left no roots in North America. Your “thinking” (I’m using that word with irony) is entirely self-serving and disingenuous.

we are Eastern Orthodox Christians. our holy days are recognized, therefore teachers must give homework assignments to our kids who are out of school to go to church.
we don’t expect the school to close for us. we only expect cooperation from the schools in the matter of accommodating our kids so they stay up to date with their homework.
moslem kids have the same accommodation. they don’t need more.

One should ask Hillary Clinton does she support Muslim holidays, and Sharia Law. I find it hard that I have not heard questions like that and many others put to Hillary before USA goes to the final show down.

One other question should school children taught with Muslim indoctrination as Bill helped it into the school system.

What parents forget, this would allow more days out of the school room, some parents also have to cover when child out of class, and if not allows child to get into trouble. With children in the classroom, parents know where their child is.

Maybe there is a silver lining somewhere behind this. If enough school day holidays pop up honoring everyone but the kitchen sink, guess what? There will never be enough school days to indoctrinate your children in NEA doctrine, political correctness and atheism. Then parents can choose other school venues where the kids might actually learn something!

Ms. Geller made one point that should really concern the readers in this forum. Only 50% opposed. Once again, the moral compass of America has been shattered, so we don’t know what direction we’re heading except the wrong direction. Using Godly standards of what is right.

Unrelated: America has better stand up and take notice of 40% say they will vote for Hillary without a second thought. Without using that gray matter between the ears.

Meh, tell them to GFT selves. If you want official recognition of your faith’s holidays, why move to a secular country. That’s exactly why Muslim countries took no refugees. They already rule in those countries. They want to change democracies, and secular countries by rocking the boat, just enough to make us change. Angola and Italy have the right idea about Islam.

There are a few of us who roll Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and everything else into one holiday, celebrated on June 21 or the weekend closed to it. At this latitude, it is daylight most of the time, travel is easy and camping is good. Once it is properly celebrated, the pressure is off all the foolishness that comes with superstition based events. Merry everything and happy summer.
