Tennessee lawmaker: ISIS should be allowed to recruit at colleges

Rep. John DeBerry Jr

Martin Daniel ought to be impeached and removed from office. Even worse, however, is the fact that he is not alone. I’m sure there are many elected officials across the US who have no problem with ISIS. They have tremendous objections to AFDI and our work for freedom and human rights, but no problem with ISIS. Good for Rep. John DeBerry for standing up to this evil clown.

Martin Daniel

“Tennessee lawmaker: ISIS should be allowed to recruit at colleges,” by Joel Ebert, The Tennessean, March 17, 2016:

Speaking on behalf of a bill centered around free speech, a Knoxville-based lawmaker on Wednesday said a terrorist organization should be allowed to recruit on college campuses in Tennessee.

While presenting a billed dubbed the “Tennessee Student Free Speech Protection Act,” Rep. Martin Daniel, R-Knoxville, fielded a question from Rep. John DeBerry Jr., D-Memphis, about whether he believed ISIS should be able to stand in the middle of university campuses and “recruit for ISIS.”

“Yes,” Daniel replied. “So long as it doesn’t disrupt the proceedings on that campus. Yes sir. They can recruit people for any other organization or any other cause. I think it’s just part of being exposed to differing viewpoints.”

The remarks came after a debate about the bill, which Daniel said “would direct schools to observe freedom of speech on campus.”

While introducing the legislation, Daniel said students’ free speech on Tennessee college campuses has been diminished in recent years because of unfair policies….

    The new Norwegian Prime Minister, Erna Solberg, began a program that deports Muslims who have ties to radical groups.

    And something stunning occurred: the country’s violent crimes are down more than 31% in less than a year since Muslim deportations began!

    Liberals everywhere are crying “Racism!” Al Jazeera blasted Solberg relentlessly for her so-called “Islamophobia”, but she has pressed on by deporting any Muslims who belong to radical mosques or threaten violence against “non-believers” — and sent their entire families home too.

    Unfortunately for us Americans, Obama would never want to betray his beloved Muslim brethren. Just look at how he sat on his hands while ISIS took over the Middle East and now Europe.

    Stateside, Obama is no better. He has crippled our economy. Everybody I know is either out of work or under-employed. And our expenses keep rising. My health insurance is now up to $456/month. Before the government touched it, it was just $190/month! My auto insurance, which the government has yet to ruin, is thankfully only $25/month (from Insurance Panda). Please, Obama! Do not try to socialize ANYTHING ELSE!

    Hey – Barry – When are you gonna tell it like it is? That these ISIS fellows are Muslim extremists? Or will continue to bend over for the “religion of peace”??

    • DemocracyRules

      Super,
      The reduction in crime is disputed. And in spite of the increase in deportations, Norway has serious problems with Islamists. In Oslo, the Norwegian capital, about 17% of the population are from immigrant families. But immigrants perpetrate 45% of the ‘assault’ rapes (forcible rapes by strangers).

      This is from a ‘Norwegian Islmophobe’ website:

        Here is a telling quote from the ‘snaphanen’ website:
        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        “As an absolute minimum, required by European and Western leaders that they stop making problems worse. This means to stop Muslim immigration, and not allow the creation of several mosques or Islamic schools in our country. It is deeply irresponsible and totally unacceptable to continue importing Muslims at a time when militant Muslims actively working to assassinate us. If Asians and Africans have a right to have their own country so too should Europeans be entitled to the same. Europeans have every right to oppose foreign colonization of their country when people in other parts of the world demand the right to the same.”
        Gee, that sounds like Atlas Shrugs. This seems like a global problem…
    Human rights trump freedom of speech.
  • But of course they have the right to reveal they are enemy combatants. You can then arrest them and put them in a POW camp or shoot them if they resist. I don’t see the problem.
    http://members.ziggo.nl/iiat/discussion/
  • If Pam Gellar can use free speech to draw pictures of the prophet, why can’t ISIS recruit? It is only free speech, right? That is what happens when Libertarianism runs amok. Moral relativism. This is why our country has to be ruled by Judeo Christian law. Allowing complete freedom actually makes you a slave to your primitive passions. It is anarchy.
    • Cuda
      are you really this stupid? First it isn’t just free speech, ISIS is a terrorist organization making it a felony to recruit for them, they also happen to be sworn enemies of our country…so supporting this means you support ISIS and hopefully you will be rounded up….
      • Read what I wrote. You’re obviously the stupid one. I’m not saying it is a good thing. Damn, bro.
        • DemocracyRules
          Hi Mike,
          Well, Cuda has a point. I don’t understand your comment either. Perhaps you can rephrase it?
          • Holy crap. Ok, libertarians who believe in freedom of expression no matter what would have to believe in the ISIS nuts being allowed to recruit. They would use the argument that if Pam Gellar can spread hate, why not they? I’m not saying I believe that, what I AM saying is that is why Judeo Christian law has to be in effect in a free society, so we don’t fall into that trap.
            It was clear, you guys just started out from a hyper defensive position. In short you were looking for a fight.
            Freedom for freedom’s sake leads to anarchy. Relativism leads to that. Look at the French Revolution.
            I hope that clears it up for you. And if you disagree, fine, but you’re wrong. Ciao.
            And to the dumbass that thinks I’m supporting ISIS recruiting, go back to 2nd grade.
          • DemocracyRules
            Mike,
            OK, I’m a dumb-ass. But thanks for clarifying. And now I see your point. The way I understand conservatism is that they want liberty, and they distrust big government because it threatens liberty. Libertarians are more extreme, and they want more liberty and tiny government. The phrase “government as a night-watchman” has been used.
            I’m not sure if libertarians would equate Pamela Geller with ISIS recruiting on US campuses. But I completely agree with your point about the need for Judeo- Christian law (or morality) to be in effect to ensure a well-functioning society. I think the Founders emphasized that. I know they talked about Exodus, and the escape from slavery of the Jews from Egypt, as being a model for the United States.
          • DemocracyRules
            Mike (2)
            Judeo- Christians take an absolutist view of morality. The rules are the rules, period. It was Marx who said that morality is a phony bourgeoisie concept, and the only important thing is getting power.
            You’re right about the French. The Founders hated the term democracy, because it meant mob rule to them.
            I think you made a good point. Until now, the US has not had to ask itself what would happen if new immigrants totally opposed Judeo- Christian morality.
            The Left thinks they know what they are doing, but they would hate it if some group started throwing them off buildings.
          • imwithstoopid
            Keep in mind that this argument also took place 60+ yrs ago during the McCarthy hearing.
            Was belonging to the Communist party the same as being anti-American? Was it OK to desire different ideology? Did you have the freedom to be a practicing Communist; turns out yes you do.
            I personally don’t understand the quantity of votes for Bernie, but it’s their right to do so.
            This man / fool is once again pushing the edge of one of our Freedoms to the tipping point, and it will have to be addressed sooner or later.
            Just listen to our new US-AG, using our Freedom of Religion, telling us that we can’t speak against Islam, in spite its obviously being a Political Ideology Cult.
            I have always believed that sooner or later this country may be be brought to its knees by using our very freedoms against us, sorry to say, we are now actually watching this happening. And it all started in our schools by those we trusted most, our TEACHERS.
          • Mahou Shoujo
            Perhaps you should invest in an english grimmer book and a dictionary, then use them before commenting. ESL courses are very good, consider taking one.
          I read what you wrote and you are off base Mike.
        • Mahou Shoujo
          • imwithstoopid
            and Robert Grant,
            Do not shoot the messenger (Mike), as he is correct even though you don’t like how he lays out the facts. Neither he nor I like what is stated, none the less, it’s true.
            It will take “an act of congress” to clarify the First Amendment, but until then we all can say, for all practical purposes, what we want. After all isn’t that what Ms. Geller was pointing out?
          • Mahou Shoujo
            One must deal with the reality that is, not the illusion thereof.
    • Trevor Fortune
      Gees Mike, it never ceases to amaze me how many people cannot read and comprehend a post and understand the sarcasm before jumping in with a hate filled response. I blame the Libertarianism that has infested the education system where it is more important to know about trigger warnings and safe spaces and to wave jazz hands rather than clap, in case the loud noise startles one of the cry babies, than to actually learn useful things that will enhance your life. My guess is they never got past the first two sentences.
      • jebor
        Wrong word, not libertarianism. LIBERALISM !
        • Trevor Fortune
          I was just using the word from Mike’s original post by way of illustration but thanks for your input.
        • imwithstoopid
          That sign isn’t for everybody, I like living off your taxes, a nice way to go…….sarc…….
    • Robert Grant
      You are the only one on here that supports ISIS recruitment. Doesn’t that tell you something?
    • Mahou Shoujo
      Perhaps you should learn a bit about islam before running off at the mouth about anarchy.
      • Lol, I know much more about Islam than you do, and anarchy, libertarianism, and you don’t even understand the point I was making. There are some incredibly stupid people out there, but you, man…well I did what I could. Good luck!
        • Mahou Shoujo
          Perhaps you should attempt to realize that you are not effectively babbling the message your comments imply. You know more about islam then I do, really… your saying so is not a validation of that assumption.
          • I’ve explained it twice. Perhaps you’re a thick headed troll only interested in arguing. Hey, you’re assuming I know nothing about Islam, so you need to take your own advice. But see, I don’t care that much. If you can’t get the two major points I was making, I,doubt you’re going to understand Islam. Others understood. It appears that only you don’t. I can’t help that. Go find someone else to bitch at, tough guy. I’m embarrassed for you.
          • Mahou Shoujo
            You are incapable of determining gender, or anything else, no wonder it is impossible to determine what you are talking about, you don’t know yourself, stupid guy. It is of no use for you to be embarrassed for others, as you are an embarrassment to yourself.
          • Oh, I’m sorry ma’am. Or maybe you’re gender fluid ? No matter. The only thing I can tell is that you’re stupid. You’ve made that clear.
          • Mahou Shoujo
            Considering your inability to grasp the obvious, that comment falls into the category of “stupid”. What fluid comes out of your gender? Or, for that matter goes in?
          • jebor
        Great idea. TN is my home state…..as I am about to retire I thought of going back home….not any more. This story is just one a long list of things going on there. There are plans for a Mega-Mosque in Memphis where I’m from..
        Memphis has a large, long time Jewish community. When the yellow fever hit there everyone left but the Jews…they stayed and kept the city going…..and now the powers that be are going to let the enemy build a Mega-Mosque right there in their face?!
        So much for the Volunteer state…..they are volunteering to be dhimmis for Islam! The Governor there is a filthy rich Billionaire -Haslam – he could care less what the people of TN have to endure…it never comes to his front door!
        For God’s sake, TN…find a new Governor who cares about you!
    My wife and I have relatives in Tennessee and we both went to school there and lived there for seven or eight years later in life. I cannot believe how this kind of stuff goes on there. Much of it seems to revolve around college campuses like the University of Tennessee where it seems like a few radical students have gained control of some organizations.
    • BrunoPBuhr
      Former US Attorney Kellen publicly stated that Obama had appointed him to be a test for the process of making criticism of Islam a crime! He stated that he was actively seeking ways to accomplish his task. Google US Attorney kellin South Eastern Tennessee.
    I think it is genius. As it currently stands, we ar severely lacking any way of constitutionally limiting the spread of extremist ideals. This is a tough nut to crack, and it needs to be solved BEFORE we have the hundreds of thousands of “migrants” come to our shores. Islam comes with a prepackaged form of government and religion, so we need a prepackaged denouncement of the same. Just thinking out loud.
            I do not disagree, I have not chosen the keyboard as a “roadway to heaven”. The car accident I was in ended my small business start-up until the settlement happens. I haven’t found anyone here that I want to date, however I’m open. That aside you are a wonderful adventure. Brilliant, tenacious linguistically exuberant and so beautiful that my eyes need not see. Why on earth would I not fully participate in such a wonderful epiphany? The wind blows when we least expect it. Till it takes you away I will smile.
          • Mahou Shoujo
            What is, I like, and wold prefer to keep it the way it is. sometimes I jump to conclusions, that can be very bad asI only jump one way, not going back to where I came from.
          • BrunoPBuhr
            I try not to whine about misfortunes “HE allows the rain to fall on the just and unjust and the sun to shine on the good and the evil” . I enjoy your company tremendously Sylph Mahou Onna-bugeisha-rin! I do not have the power to determine the course of the river. You are powerful, however I imagine the same is true for you.
          • Mahou Shoujo
            It’s all good fun, it must be kept that way.
          • BrunoPBuhr
          • Mahou Shoujo
            Ok, you must go find a nice local girl, then, when you “pinky swear” to treat each other better than best, comment on the event. Some conditions apply, she has to be present with you in person when you do.
          • BrunoPBuhr
            Are you drunk? Good God woman get some coffee!
          • Mahou Shoujo
            Nope. That is them.
          • BrunoPBuhr
            Them who?
          • Mahou Shoujo
            Them’s the rules.
          • BrunoPBuhr
            You said them is drunk!
          • Mahou Shoujo
            They might be, you are pinky swearing.
          • BrunoPBuhr
            Ahhhh ok. I will under one condition ….
          • BrunoPBuhr
          • Mahou Shoujo
            You do if you’re dealing with me… its a cultural thing. Besides, you are not swearing with another gentleman.
          • BrunoPBuhr
            I try not to swear with anyone…its not nice
          • Mahou Shoujo
            Ok, rephrase that to “pinky promise” … she’s waiting…
          • BrunoPBuhr
            True, Japanese girls are high maintenance, and good house keepers, in that they keep the house.
          • BrunoPBuhr
            Class is something you can’t buy with your coinage. Perhaps you should look close to home for your purchase.
          • Ron Cole
            They must be.
            Everytime I call for help with anything I get a really nice Filipino girl. Some speak English.
          • Mahou Shoujo
            True, in Canada ask for service in french, then speak english. 99 times out of 100 the person on the line is in Quebec, and speak english. Only had this not work once.
          • BrunoPBuhr
            Ur funny!!
          • BrunoPBuhr
            I thought I was going to miss you all weekend…you said you were going to be busy.
          • Mahou Shoujo
            Have to take a break for the insane hedonism of life in the swamp. This is the only place you can take a $50 bill, go out for supper, a movie, be home in time for the evening news and get $18 change.
          • BrunoPBuhr
            Cheap date….do you check your weapons at the door, or for that price do you have to kill dinner yourself?
          • Mahou Shoujo
            In civilization, they have lobster tanks in some restaurants, locally, patrons are invited to select something out of the trap in the kitchen. The kitchen staff dispatch and grill it, tip 18%.
          • BrunoPBuhr
            Ya Tennessee isn’t all that civilized.. Road kill is legally nutritious here.
          • Mahou Shoujo
            It isn’t everywhere? My boss, when I was training him before he got promoted, hunted grouse with a chev pick up truck. After he got promoted he stopped hunting probably because his vehicle had a standard, not a bush bumper.
          • BrunoPBuhr
            Plus bird beaks on his new vanity plates wouldn’t be cool!
          • Mahou Shoujo
            True, the company was fussy about the trucks had to wash the every day for a while. For this it takes six years of university? O well, it paid the bills.
          • Ron Cole
            Persistent critter isn’t it.
          • Mahou Shoujo
            Here we have “spruce grouse” which are remarkably stupid, they are a fraction of a percent smarter than vegetation. But very easy to clean and cook.
          • Ron Cole
            An` good eatun`.
            I remember my United States Marine Corps hand to hand instructor telling us,
            “Knives are for last resort assassination tools.
            There are no clear winners in a knife fight”.
            I kinda` liked my dress mameluke sword, but did not have the pleasure of using it.
          • Mahou Shoujo
            Yes, swords are emotional symbols of military involvement, they invoke a lot of feelings and emotions. The one in our family, that I inherited, I gave to my oldest son, it is something to remind the next generation that sometimes one has to do, what one has to do. Generally I do not like to use Japanese terms as this is north America, but the only word that fits, is “Bushido” if I may say so, you have it.
    BUNDLE THIS BASTARD UP AND SHIP HIS MOLDY ASS OVER TO SYRIA AND GIVE HIM TO ISIS! HE LOVES THEM SO WELL!
  • MrLogical
    Someone needs to pack this guy off to any of a half-dozen countries in the ME and see if he can go onto one of their college campuses and recruit for the U.S., Marines, Army, FBI or CIA. What’s good for one should be good for all – right? Or maybe go onto the U. of Tennessee campus and try to recruit for one of the militia groups that the U.S. gub’mit finds so abhorrent.
    What an effing idiot.
    Does Tennessee have a recall provision for elected officials?
    If so, this guy’s constituents need to send him packing.
      • Ron Cole
        Comrade coleman young, communist dictator of detroit, set it’s brother up with a 24/7 pharmacy.
        The venture must have been profitable because the brother shot himself in the back of the head with a 6″ Colt 357. The lovely Colt Python was found in the back seat.
        Of course an DEA and FB&I investigation might have encouraged the family dispute and coup.
        • Mahou Shoujo
          Very agile that entrepreneurial bunch.
  • Dave from San Antonio
    This guy…is a nit-wit.
  • Agent153Orange
    Removal from office is NOT ENOUGH — he should be HANGED for HIGH TREASON!
  • Metatrona
    HEY, let’s allow gang bangers to recruit too. Then we’ll have college educated drug sellers on every corner!
  • He’s a traitor. Period.
  • Dirk Noel Theriault
    I hope his brakes fail while exiting on I-40.
  • drummie
    This SOB is probably a rabid racist and just wants someone to kill whites for him. I know that is bad to say, but it has gotten that bad with some of the movements lately. It seems that liberalism is in fact a mental illness. This man should be impeached and at the same time be investigated for providing support to ISIS. He is probably immune for prosecution for anything said on the floor of the chamber he “serves” in, as it should be, but he probably is an active supporter and instigator of other troubles.
  • Bill Kay
    This imbecile , and all through out the government like him should be removed from office for being mentally deficient / prosecuted for sedition , and do long, long hard time this is not a question of free speech it is seditious speech you HALF WIT get of this ILK. !
  • Chet
    The Democrat Party – Ruination of the USA…
  • ______________
    Hello America, this kind of open treason is the result of radical liberal “tolerance”, “diversity”, and “equality”! It completely sickens me that this Satan-spawned traitor is “Republican” on paper! Is it any wonder why Trump is so popular? People are fed up with liberal treason and liberal Satanism, that the first political candidate who stands up to liberal traitors and liberal Satanists is the one that people want!!!
  • Dirk Noel Theriault
    In light of John Kerry’s stunning epiphany on Friday, stating that Daish (ISIS, ISIL) is guilty of genocide, I’d have to say that this moron is complicit and should be lynched by an unruly mob of ‘townfolk’ carrying torches and pitchforks. It appears to be a method he himself endorses.
  • Gordon Miller
    So I guess we missed the boat in not inviting Goebbels to speak to my kindergarten class in the early forties.
  • Owen_Morgan
    Does this character, Daniel, also think that it would have been all right for the nazis to try to recruit in Warsaw, on the 2nd of September, 1939, or for the Imperial Japanese Navy to have been doing some kind of fund-raiser on Broadway, on the 8th of December, 1941?
    “Tennessee student free speech protection act”.
    How about:
    Students of
    Tennessee
    University
    Protect
    Intellectually
    Dishonest
    Acts for
    Sharia
    Speech
    Stupid a**. There, fixed it.
    With 97 comments and rising I think that readers have been mislead by this story. The goal of the legislation is not to invite ISIS onto campuses in Tennessee, it’s to protect free speech on campuses. The focus of the article Pamela chose to bring this proposed law to readers attention does nothing to describe the nature of the bill and has set everyone off trying to chose the most outrageous groups who could possibly gain access to students on campus. In fact the lawmaker did not even mention ISIS, it was his response to a Megyn Kelly styled “gotcha!” question that has everyone heated.
    This proposed law was also the subject of an article the Baron posted in the newsfeed over at GoV which was a much clearer picture of what this legislation is aimed at. At publicly funded colleges across the nation the left has all but silenced the free speech of those with a conservative viewpoint. The real objective of the law, as I understand it, is to guarantee that the conservative voice has equal protection, as provided by the first amendment, to what the radical left enjoys.
    Finally, that which is illegal will still be illegal. That is to say supporting ISIS is not protected speech anymore than shouting Fire! in a crowded theater.
    • Richard
      I love reading Atlas but the comments are very rarely intellectual in content. In fact it seems like very few readers here even make it past the headline or the lede and actually read the article before firing off a comment like: Get a rope, Turn Mecca to glass, or “Fill In Name Here” is just like Hitler. And this site is also a troll magnet, which does not play well with unmoderated comments.
      I will keep coming to this site daily and I will keep supporting Pamela with a few bucks here and there as I’m able…but…this site is to be compared to USA Today whereas GoV is more like reading the WSJ. And the comment sections supports that conclusion.
      72, but they’re not virgins. They’re grapes. There is much for you to learn about Islam.
      Islam is a cult. Similar to Scientology or Mormon, there is a dogma to learn. Except it’s all fake, like learning to speak Klingon. I’m not into dogma. I’m into pizza, hey – and pizza is into me. I gots me two slices and a beer waiting for me right now.
      He’s very busy supporting his queer Kenyan Boy in destroying the foundations of America by aiding the Enemy. Interesting note: obama has banned US Military from recruiting at many campuses. These people need to be hunted down and eliminated. He is a disgusting side show
  • ermom
    Nowhere in our Constitution and Bill of Rights, does it say we must allow TREASON, nor the overthrow of our gov’t. Anyone remember ‘enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC’? While we Americans went to sleep after the ‘cold war’, trusting our gov’t to protect us, just as the communists said they would do, they took over our unions and schools. WHY WERE TRAITORS LIKE BILL AYERS, BERNETTE DORHN, CLOWARD AND PIVEN, SAUL ALINSKY, etc., allowed to teach in our schools?
    The Muslim Brotherhood, as proven in the Holy Land Foundation trial, is doing the same thing, with their ‘Civilization Jihad’. Islamofascism, or Islamic supremacy is real, and we must fight POLITICAL ISLAM.
