There it is. “Whoever is kind to the cruel will end up being cruel to the kind.”

Washington Post writer: When I met Islamic State fighters, I couldn’t hate them by Robert Spencer, Jihad Watch, February 7, 2016:

‘Imagine the Washington Post publishing an article in 1943: “Nazi Germany sent my best friend to Dachau. But when I met its fighters, I couldn’t hate them.” How have these people lost all moral compass, or worse, decided it best to side with America’s enemies?

“The Islamic State commits despicable acts of cruelty, but the men who carry out these crimes are not the two-dimensional caricatures they’re painted to be. They are human beings, many indoctrinated at the most impressionable age and coerced into service.” Of course they are. And no one, actually, should be hated. But to write a piece like this is to equivocate on the moral evils these men commit every day.

“ISIS kidnapped my best friend. But when I met its fighters, I couldn’t hate them,” by Sebastian Meyer, Washington Post, February 5, 2016:

SULAYMANIYAH, IRAQ — As a journalist based in northern Iraq for the past six years, I’ve seen the war with the Islamic State closer than I’d like. In the summer of 2014, my best friend, a man I’d come to love and respect during my time reporting here, was taken prisoner by the militants. We were more like brothers than friends, and I haven’t heard from him since.

I was filming about 180 miles away on the evening he disappeared. I drove through the night to join a group of his friends and family in a rescue effort. While the militants stormed west across Iraq, we worked exhaustively to find him. (I can’t say more about him, because doing so could put him in further danger.) We were driven by rage and desperation.

Months later, Diji Terror, a Kurdish counterterrorism unit based in Sulaymaniyah, granted my request to interview an ISIS fighter I’d heard they had captured. Finally, a small chance to press the Islamic State for answers about its tactics. A chance for some catharsis.

Ali was seized during a nighttime raid caught on film: In the footage officials showed me, Diji troops handcuffed, blindfolded and bundled him off on a helicopter. Ali had beheaded prisoners, they told me; I couldn’t help but think of my friend.

When I met him, Ali wore an orange jumpsuit and plastic sandals. He sat hunched in his chair as a guard lit a thin cigarette and passed it to him. He took it with both hands, his wrists cuffed together, and inhaled deeply. (In Islamic State territory, smoking is forbidden.) This sight was a far cry from a propaganda photo I saw of him dressed in black, standing commandingly behind a Kurdish peshmerga soldier he says he subsequently executed.

Ali was born in 1995 and joined the Islamic State in 2008, at the age of 13, he told me. He was trained as an assassin and given his first mission two years later. He and three friends were sent to kill four Iraqi police officers in Mosul. The group tracked the men down, executed them with shots to the back of their heads and buried them where they fell. Ali said he had killed eight or nine men in battle, not including the five he’d beheaded.

I asked him to tell me about the peshmerga soldier whose head he cut off. In a soft, compliant voice, he told me he had pushed the Kurdish soldier belly-first onto the ground in front of him. He placed his knee in the man’s back and then severed the neck with a bayonet. Did Ali have a message for the families of the peshmerga he’d beheaded? He went quiet for a second, and then his face screwed up very tightly and he began to sob.

If all of that is true, then Ali had indeed been a dangerous terrorist, and the world is safer with him behind bars. But he had also been a child soldier, a vulnerable boy coerced into becoming a terrorist. I interviewed many other fighters like him, some just 14 years old when the Islamic State came to their villages and compelled them at gunpoint to join.

The Islamic State commits despicable acts of cruelty, but the men who carry out these crimes are not the two-dimensional caricatures they’re painted to be. They are human beings, many indoctrinated at the most impressionable age and coerced into service.

A few weeks after the interviews, I saw a photo taken after a battle between the Kurds and the Islamic State near Sinjar, Iraq. In the lower left-hand corner is the body of a militant, his head just out of the frame, blood pooling by his left shoulder. His name is Abdul Aziz Faraj Yusuf, age 16. I’ve seen a lot of photos of dead Islamic State fighters, but as I reread the boy’s age, I felt something different. Gone was the sense of retaliatory satisfaction. This was a dead child. I wasn’t angry anymore. I was heartbroken….

Loving your enemy is a Christian trait, it forced me to leave the church.

    • JSebastian

Religion is stupid irrational bunk, and it isn’t a trait, it is a “teaching” or a precept ……even if some people adopt that belief it still does not make it a trait. A trait is an innate characteristic of an individual that cannot be changed or modified.

      • Pray Hard

It’s simply myth. When you realize that, you can let go of it.

        • Rob Porter

The myth is that we and this world just happened. It’s not even intelligent to deduce that.

      • Rob Porter

No belief in God is a stupid, irrational load of bunk, a stupid delusional notion that we humans and other creatures just came from nothing. In fact it is easier to believe in creator than to imagine that without an architect these complex bodies, the world and the galaxy, came into existence.

    • Jim Fox

      Kudos to you , Jose.
If 1.6 billion indoctrinated Islamic imbeciles could think like you, we might have a peaceful world. If all the other religiots could also, humanity could fairly claim to have achieved maturity.

    • old003

I don’t think you understand or know the mind of a Christian man and his devotion to his beliefs, love for his family and life itself.Do not confuse the American Christian man with the Christian monks of yore.

    • SoTxJoe

i love my enemies, but if they’re coming for my family and me, i will do my level best to destroy them, p!ss on their bodies, and then pray that God would grant them the mercy that i could not.

      • Michael Garfinkel

I like this, except for the last part.

May I suggest a better way to put this?

It’s a lyric from a 1942 song by Frank Loesser:

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
        And we’ll all stay free

    • Mahou Shoujo

Loving your enemy is all well and good, however if an enemy does not love their enemy, then common-sense , not pious emotion or superstition will have to be used. There is no commandment that says ” Thou shalt be stupid and allow thyself to be murdered by criminals”.

      • Don Grantham

I love when my enemy is reduced to inanimate carbon-based particles.
        Does that count?

        • Mahou Shoujo

Seems reasonable, back to the fundamental elements of creation, so to speak.

        • Lonnie Robinson

          works for me.

        • Keith

Can we include western journalists who write articles like the one we are commenting on in that, along with the politicians and LGBT community leaders who spout the same crap.

        • IzlamIsTyranny

          Ditto and double thumbs up!
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

      • Mindy Robinson

Well stated. G-d is not a fool and he made certain we understood that were not to stand by and allow evil such as this to take place, we are to act against it and stomp it out. I do pray for them, that they receive Christ, I also pray that G-d put an end to their evil, I don’t hate them and I don’t want to hate them.

        • Mahou Shoujo

Not hating is very nice, but it is not a substitute for common sense and self preservation. Even the apostles occasionally got somewhat annoyed with some people on occasion.

    • Jonah

Loving your enemy is not about not looking the other way when they rape, murder, commit crimes etc. Government is there to judge people that do these things harshly and no one should have pity on such a person.

It is about telling people that these actions beyond leading to earthly judgment lead to hell and “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).

      • jom

        Hi Jonah,

        Jesus pbuh never died..

Isaiah 53:10 and Psalm 91:16 declare that Jesus’ life will be EXTENDED! [1] [2]

Jesus Christ, never got crucified, nor was he ever killed. many passages with ample evidence from the Bible’s Old and New Testaments, and also many more outside the Bible, clearly prove that:

        Jesus pbuh never died.

He rested for 3 days in the cave, which was his so-called “tomb”, which was above the ground and was not a grave, nor a coffin. It was an open cave, and he rested on the floor in it. He was healed and massaged with medicine. And ultimately, he un-wound his winding sheets, and exited the cave in his original physical body alive. This is how he “ROSE” from the so-called “dead”. He never actually died. He’s always been physically alive and receiving massaging, and medical treatment, during those three days, according to the New Testament’s accounts itself. The problem with the Bible is that it LOOSELY uses words and terms such as God, Son, Rise from the Dead, Death, etc… The following debate explains all of this in great details from the Bible, and proves that Jesus never died:

According to the NT’s accounts themselves (Luke 24:1-8, Mark 15:40-47, Mark 16:1-8, John 19:38-42, John 20:1-29), Jesus Christ was NEVER buried underground. He was placed in a rich man’s tomb (a cave like a bear’s or mountain lion’s cave) for three days above the ground, laying on the floor there.

Was Jesus (pbuh) really Crucified? by Dr Zakir Naik

        • vercingetorix

Are you a muzzie? Because if you are a muzzie then you are a bad muzzie, because you don’t know your own holy scriptures. In the most horrible book of all times the Quran Jesus was not even crucified! Hence he was not injured at all, he was not to be taken from the cross and had not to be cared for or healed and instead he was simply taken to the Paradise by Allah, soul&body&brain all inclusive.
According to the Quran another man,,on Allah’s orders, was crucified in Jesus’ stead.
This means that Jesus’s mother, and brother and his lover Mary of Magdalene and others stood under the cross and did not discover Allahs trickery? His own mother did not recognize her son? That is coming on strong!

            hi vercingetorix,

Prophet Adam never ask our permission before eat forbidden fruits in heaven. As such, there are no such thing on original sins.We are not to bear for Prophet Adam sin as confirm in Bible.

The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself. Ezekiel 18:20

“An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly, so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” (Mt 12:40)

FU lying muslum. Take your Islamic State index finger, stick it up your holey quranus and rotate on it.

        • Mindy Robinson

I read the book of unholy islam and there I found the anti-christ, mahdi and the false prophet, the muslim jesus. Now I understand how so many will be deceived, those who believe Jesus was just a man will worship the mahdi and the false prophet, those who don’t believe in G-d will worship the mahdi and the false prophet. They will make war against the true Jesus Christ who in the last hour comes to destroy all make war against Israel, the mahdi, the false jesus christ and all their followers will be utterly destroyed.

            Hi Mindy Robinson,

Jesus pbuh never claim divinity…He never say I am God or worship me..

            The Greatest Commandment

2One of the scribes came and heard them arguing, and recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, “What commandment is the foremost of all?” 29Jesus answered, “The foremost is, ‘HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; 30AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.’…Mark 12:29

            God is not a man

Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

            Acts 2:22

Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a MAN approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

A ruler questioned Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 19And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. 20″You know the commandments, ‘DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, DO NOT MURDER, DO NOT STEAL, DO NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER.'”…Luke 18:19

“I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. John 5:30

“My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all..John 10:29

            “Jesus never claimed divinity”.
Jesus said and did things that could inspire people to think that he was divine. He himself was too humble to claim openly divinity for himself.
Jeshua said: ” I and my Father are one”,
or “i am the way, the truth und the life, noone comes to the Father but through me…” (Note that he did not say noone comes to the Father but through that bedouin impostor 670 yeas later).
Jesus performed fantastic miracles such as the resuscitation of Lazarus who had already been dead for three days.
Jesus’ own life was proof that he was much more than only a prophet. Muhammad usurped Jesus’ good name to further his agenda of greed and power.
Muslims have no claim on Jesus and they have no claim on the jewish Prophets who belong to Judaism.
And by the way, Dr.Zakir Naik is an indian muslim hate-preacher who is not allowed to enter many countries in the world because of his radicalism and anti-semitism.

            Hi vercingetorix,

Let us look at John 10:30 “I (Jesus) and the Father are One.” This verse is severely misunderstood and is taken out of context, because beginning at verse John 10:23 we read (in the context of 10:30) about Jesus talking to the Jews. In verse John 10:28-30, talking about his followers as his sheep, he states: “…Neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father who gave them me, is greater than all, and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are One.”

These verses prove only that Jesus and the Father are one in that no man can pluck the sheep out of either’s hand. It does not at all state that Jesus is God’s equal in everything. In fact the words of Jesus, ” My Father, who gave them me is Greater than ALL…,” in John 10:29 completely negates this claim, otherwise we are left with a contradiction just a sentence apart. All includes everyone even Jesus.

Also let us look at verse John 17:20-22 “That the ALL may be made ONE. Like thou Father art in me, I in thee, that they may be ONE in us. I in

them, they in me, that they may be perfect in ONE”. In this verse, the same word ONE used, the Greek, HEN is used, not only to describe Jesus and the Father but to describe Jesus, the Father and eleven of the twelve disciples of Jesus. So here if that implies equality, we have a unique case of 13 Gods.

Of the verse in question, “I and the Father are One” in (John 10:30), we also need to take note of the verses following the 30th verse in the text. In those verses, the Jews accuse Jesus falsely of claiming to be God by these words. He however replies, proving their accusation wrong by their own text: “The Jews answered him saying,’For a good work we stone thee not, but for blasphemy, and because that thou being a man, makest thyself a God ‘” (John 10:33).

Jesus replies to this accusation saying: “Jesus answered them, ‘Is it not written in your Law, “I said ye are gods. If He can call them gods, unto whom the word of God came, say ye of him whom the Father hath sanctified and sent into the world, “Thou blasphemeth,” because I said I am the son of God?'” (John 10:34-36).

Let us look at Acts 2:22 “O you men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a MAN approved of God among you…” Peter in the Book of Acts testifies about Jesus. Jesus thus even to his disciples, as to early Christians, not poisoned by Pauline doctrine, was a man, not a God.

Jesus did not claim divinity in Jhon (14:6) !! Dr. zakir …

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSW3jfD8VS4

Jesus pbuh never claim divinity :

Not a single unequivocal statement in the complete bible Jesus pbuh himself said I am god and worship me.

John 14:28 the Father is greater than I.

John 10:29 My Father is greater than all.

Matthew 12:28 “But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God,

Luke 11:20 But if I drive out demons by the finger of God

John 5:30 “I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

Act 2 : 22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

Matthew 19:16 And someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?” 17And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”…

Jesus pbuh clearly said that if you wish to obtain eternal life, keep the commandments………….

Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. 18″For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.….

Position of Jesus (pbuh) in Islam:

(i)Islam is the only non-Christian faith, which makes it an article of faith to believe in Jesus (pbuh). No Muslim is a Muslim if he does not believe in Jesus (pbuh).

(ii) We believe that he was one of the mightiest Messengers of Allah (swt).

(iii) We believe that he was born miraculously, without any male intervention, which many modern day Christians do not believe.

(iv) We believe he was the Messiah translated Christ (pbuh).

            (v) We believe that he gave life to the dead with God’s permission.

(iv) We believe that he healed those born blind, and the lepers with God’s permission.

    • Pray Hard

It’s nothing but “reverse psychology” so that you don’t let hate of the enemy destroy your humanity. I don’t remember anywhere in the Bible where it says to roll over and let the enemy cut your guts out. I think we’ve simply misinterpreted the messages to our own detriment. But, I get your point.

There’s a oblique point of bushido there also. If you can fight your enemy with detachment from emotion, you will be a much deadlier warrior.

      • Don Grantham

        Well stated.

      • Keith

I agree I don’t think hatred of the enemy in a soldier is a good thing, that is when we start getting down to the same level as the enemy. At the same time we don’t want our soldiers loving the enemy either detached from emotion is much better.

        • honeybee

regard the enemy soldier as an inanimate target.

        • Mindy Robinson

          Good comment.

      • jollygreengiant

It’s like being a rat exterminator – it doesn’t have to be personal –
just a job to prevent them spreading their filth. Although that’s where
the comparison ends, because rats do have some redeeming qualities,
unlike followers of Mo the dead child molester.

      • Mindy Robinson

        Well stated.

    • Don Grantham

Loving your enemy… is a completely unrealistic expectation. Thankfully, I can think for myself.

    • Lonnie Robinson

Yes you can love your enemy and you can also pray for them after you put them out of their misery and in the end the creator will judge them. Christians are just there to arrange the meeting.

    • Keith

I don’t have a problem, in theory, with loving your enemy but I do have a problem with taking the idea of loving your enemy to the extent where it becomes personal, cultural and civilizational suicide.
That is exactly what we are doing in the west and journalists like him are a large part of the problem along with ignorant political leaders who continually tout the party line that Islam means peace and is The Religion of Peace. To make it even worse they do everything they can to shut up anyone who is critical of muslims and Islam to the extent that they can be imprisoned for the slightest remark whilst allowing muslims to preach hatred of anyone that is not a muslim.
The worst of the lot are the LGBT community and the womens rights organisations who condemn Christians and white males whilst turning a blind eye to the gays being thrown off of tall buildings or hanged, women and children being turned into sex slaves for the pleasure of the followers of a perverted religion.

      • IzlamIsTyranny

The LGBT community will be thrown under the bus to appease the muslums by their lieberal allies in the same way Christians are now.

    • vercingetorix

” loving your enemy is a christian trait..”
I am not an expert in catholic theology but i don’t think this is to be taken literally. Because if we started to show the other cheek (which is also not to be taken literally) and started to love the IS-monsters, we would soon be wiped out……

    • Benschachar

I thought Ender’s Game had a fascinating take on that.

Yah, the Nazis were not as bad as ISIS. Less dangerous, less hateful. Yet she isn’t endorsing the men who served as guards or torturers in SS death camps…why isn’t she lauding the guys who were machine gunning innocent Jews into mass graves too?

    Seems rather biased.

    • Dr. Doomsday

      Get some help..

      • JSebastian

The Nazis only had it out for a few small groups of people….Jews, gypsies…gays, mentally retarded, etc. But that is not very many people. The islamists have it out for anyone who isn’t muslim. So as you can see its a far larger tent of hate and aggression.

Nazis may have been responsible for the deaths of six million jews…but the potential victims of islamists numbers 6 BILLION. So one thousand times more dangerous.

Attack these people through the web and let everybody know about there treason. Trying to make us under stand about this devil. Maybe he should go and consol the parants of the victim he slaughtered in the name of allah, By the way I refuse to use a capital (letter) in front of anything of radical islam and when I do it will be Capital Punishment.

    • Don Grantham

Robert Spencer is as adamantly anti-Islam as Pam. If you read more closely, you will see the bulk of the article was actually written by Sebastian Meyer, Washington Post, February 5, 2016. Spencer was just pointing out how hypocritical this is.

  • Sifter

No, Pam, the West has lost because we’ve made it clear to Muslims that WE HAVE NO RED LINES!!

  • Infedel48

Little Faraj would cut off your stupid libtard head in a NY minute

  • Mahou Shoujo

The lame stream media are weak, emotional slobbering progressives that do not realize that there are people in this world who do not want to embrace liberalism or anything else, they demand and violently enforce a seventh century life style as demanded by an ignorant perverted violent psychopath.

“Washington Post writer: When I met Islamic State fighters, I couldn’t hate them.. ”
    Because I am a moron.

  • steelraptor from Saturn

Well he is a Wa Po writer, so he writes for a paper that shares Islamic State’s anti-American and anti-Semitic bias, so having so much in common with these jihadists, this journalist’s ideology that is, how could he really hate them?

  • michaelofsydney

Hmmm. hate is not a good thing is it? One surely does not not have to hate their enemy. On this, the eve of Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, I wonder should we really be spewing hatred. This journo’s mate was possibly beheaded, yet he does not hate. He did not say he forgave, but he did not hate. That is probably why he can still report from the horror zone. WE all know the Koran is an evil hate filled book, though should we all be sucked into the narrative of hate?

  • Drew the Infidel

The leftist media never met a purveyor of obscene criminality with whom they could not help but be enthralled.

  • Michael Garfinkel

Sebastian Meyer (as in Meyer the crier) was heartbroken at the demise of a young, blood-thirsty killer.

How exquisitely attuned to nuance he must be!

Beware of the Sebastian Meyers of the world – they are going to get a lot more people killed before they are through.

  • Pray Hard

    Truly, self-loathing leftist, deadly drivel.

  • Stephen Honig

They’re not human beings, on in the physical. Evil presents itself in human form.

  • Mike Knox

Months later, Diji Terror, a Kurdish counterterrorism unit based in
Sulaymaniyah, granted my request to interview an ISIS fighter I’d heard
they had captured. Finally, a small chance to press the Islamic State
    for answers about its tactics.

    A chance for some catharsis.

all about his feelings which is all important to a liberal

  • matt

People like this will be the death of us all

  • Trevor Fortune

I looked up “useful idiot” in the dictionary and there was a picture of this guy. He would have been a Nazi sympathiser in a different time, and is probably still a communist sympathiser to this day.

  • Heather Vance-Nelson

You can live your enemy. But like disciplining a child, you don’t let them get away with CRAP!…. You still have to discipline according to the crime!…

    • IzlamIsTyranny

Are the women being raped in Germanistan loving their enemy?

  • IzlamIsTyranny

“No one should be hated.” eh? Why not? Should I not hate those who practice evil? And if islam (spit) isn’t evil then WTF is evil?

  • Rob Porter

Robert said it so well, people like Sebastian Meyer are devoid of “moral compass”, so devoid of a moral compass they are devoid of feelings against evil, cold blooded murderers, savages who gouge out the eyes of Christian children before beheading, burying alive or cutting them in half for refusing to abandon their belief in Jesus. These savages are crucifiers and men who burn to death Kurds in steel cages, are brutal rapists and owners of sex slaves. Without a moral compass the Sebastian Meyers of this world are like instant victims of the Stockholm Syndrome. Sebastian Meyer is a pitiful creature.

  • Mindy Robinson

I don’t hate them either, as a matter of fact I pray for them, pray they find Christ , however, G-d also instructs that we must put an end to them, to their evil. They must be killed to stop their killing. I feel compassion for them, that doesn’t mean I condone what they do or that I would advocate for them, I don’t and I wouldn’t.
