10 US Sailors Detained in Iran After Iran Seizes 2 US Navy boats

ByPamela Geller on January 12, 2016
This is one to watch. ‘Detained’ can be a euphemism for hostage.
Clearly, Iran has no respect or fear for the spineless, gutless wonder in the White House.

I expect no mention will be made of this in Obama’s State of the Islamic Union address tonight. This latest act of war comes just just days before Iran is expected to “satisfy the terms of last summer’s nuclear deal.” Once the U.N. nuclear agency confirms Iran’s actions to roll back its program, the United States and other Western powers are obliged to suspend wide-ranging oil, trade and financial sanctions on Tehran. “Kerry recently said the deal’s implementation was “days away.”

Does Iran how this diversionary tactic will stall their non-compliance?

Obama’s sanction of the islamic rogue republic has unleashed the monster.

“As many as 10 US sailors detained by Iran,” FOX News, January 12, 2015:

As many as 10 U.S. Navy sailors were detained – at least temporarily – Tuesday by Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces when the two vessels they were in became disabled and drifted into Iranian territorial waters.

Pentagon officials said the small crafts became disabled in the Persian Gulf while moving between Kuwait and Bahrain and they briefly lost contact with the crews.

The sailors are being held on Farsi Island, a small island in the Persian Gulf home to an Iranian Revolutionary Guard base.

Love how the AP softens this blockbuster story in the their headline:

“Pentagon: 2 US Navy boats held by Iran but will be returned,”

WASHINGTON (AP) — Iran was holding 10 U.S. Navy sailors and their two small Navy boats after the boats had mechanical problems and drifted into Iranian waters, but American officials have received assurances from Tehran that they will be returned safely and promptly.

Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook told The Associated Press that the riverine boats were moving between Kuwait and Bahrain when the U.S. lost contact with them.

U.S. officials said that the incident happened near Farsi Island, situated in the Persian Gulf. They said that some type of mechanical trouble with one of the boats caused them to run aground and they were picked up by Iran. The sailors were in Iranian custody on Farsi Island at least for some time, but it’s not certain where they are now.

The semi-official Iranian news agency, FARS, said the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s navy has detained 10 foreign forces, believed to be Americans, and said the sailors were trespassing in Iranian waters.

“We have been in contact with Iran and have received assurances that the crew and the vessels will be returned promptly,” Cook said.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions with Iran, and only hours before President Barack Obama is set to deliver his final State of the Union address to Congress and the public. It set off a dramatic series of calls and meetings as U.S. officials tried to determine the exact status of the crew and reach out to Iranian leaders.

Secretary of State John Kerry, who has forged a personal relationship with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif through three years of nuclear negotiations, called Zarif immediately on learning of the incident, according to a senior U.S. official. Kerry “personally engaged with Zarif on this issue to try to get to this outcome,” the official said.

This comes on the heels of an incident in late December when Iran launched a rocket test near U.S. warships and boats passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

The officials were not authorized to discuss the sensitive incident publicly so spoke on condition of anonymity.

if all else fails, Obama and Kerry always have the war option ( to try and keep him in office) they have tried everything else and with him weakening our force strength so much it is likely we could be overrun …yes I am sounding the alarms, but it sure seems nobody is listening!

    • Robert Tackett

I’m wondering when we gun advocates are going to take our guns and peacefully protest on the white house front lawn?

  • RabbiGlenn

I certainly hope Nikki Haley has been briefed on this, and is prepared to speak to the idiocy and the abject failure of this President’s Iranian deal when she offers the Republican rebuttal tonight.

  • blazer91

It sure looks like the USN dropped the ball here, the muzzrat in the WhiteMosque is ultimately responsible for this sad situation.

    • RetiredNavyphotog

I find it hard to believe the USN screwed up. Sounds like a “wag the dog” episode by the White House to inflame or invade Iran.

Nuke Tehran. It’s only fair after the weekly death to America rallies led by the turbaned supreme a-hole.

  • George Macdonald

Kerry got in touch with his Iranian family .How many billions this going to cost .

  • Fred Sawyer

There’s a reason we have not had diplomatic relations with Iran since 1979.

Obama is the only one who doesn’t get it.

    • Sifter

He gets it all too well..”Fellow Americans, thx to the newfound trust between our two great nations forged in our strenuous nuclear negotiations, I am pleased to announce tonight that all of our sailors have been released and are safe.” This is a diplomatic handjob special for tonight.

    • Shafiq Islam

No one has explained why Iran, with its abundant oil and gas, needs much more expensive nuclear plants, nor why they have been enriching uranium far beyond the levels needed for power plants. It’s obvious that their intentions are not peaceful. Reagan stupidly prevented the Indians from taking out Pakistan’s nascent nuclear programme in 1984, even as he encouraged the Saudis to radicalise the world’s Sunnis by funding Wahhabi mosques and madrasas. As Santayana famously said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

      • Fred Sawyer

Could not have said better myself. History always seems to repeat itself and not in a good way

        Santayana Claus.

  • Mahou Shoujo

No big deal, they will be released as soon as they’re photographed and confess to being an invasion force or something equally ridiculous. Perhaps the U.S. navy should consider Suzuki outboard motors for their smaller craft, as the junk they are using is unreliable.

    • Robert Tackett

      Hahaha… right?!

  • bobbyd118

i dont buy this story for a minute……one…but not two vessels disabled at the same time……president Reagan would have blasted them off the map for this

    • RetiredNavyphotog

I don’t buy this story either.

Again, I hope the boats are loaded with tech to spy on the Iranians – and later self destruct on command.

    This way off topic.

These despicable beasts are just warming up for the 28 beautiful prepubescent boys they get along with the 72 “hoors”, or virgin girls, they get in paradise. It’s a theology that turns human beings into objects of perverse sexual gratification.

The lowlife islamic republic of iran says it will release our sailors “in the morning.”
“In the morning,” in that guttural grunting they call their language means whenever they feel like it or when they get paid or whatever they decide it means by the next time they talk about it. We should not be negotiating in any serious way with these scumbags — and we wouldn’t be if it weren’t that one of them is this president.

    • Shafiq Islam

Nah, you should really worry if they say they will release them “insha Allah,” which is Arabic for “don’t hold your breath.”

    Hahahahahajahahahah,,,,,,laughing at you obamahead.
not at what might happen to our navy service members :|

Obama was delivering military aid to Fascist Iran.

  • Yitzhak

Obama is going to abandon those sailors. It’s a given. You won’t see them again til Trump is President.

Kidnap 10 members of the Saudi royal family and offer the Iranians a trade. :)

lbj let the north koreans do the same thing with the Pueblo and humiliate the US, and carter let the persians do it again in 1979. in both cases, the bad guys knew the president was gutless, and the persians have obola figured out long ago. the correct response to the pueblo and the iran embassy was to treat them as an act of war and turn both countries into a pile of smoldering stones. our failure to act that way has led to the murder of countless americans by muslims in middle east wars and worldwide over the last 40 years. it will be fun to see how much groveling obola and kerry and their lapdog media do over the next year on this one. if you are in uniform, trust me, these two do not have your back

Weakness of this Hussein-character is pathetic… he is only tough on patriotic traditional Americans! Every other little tin-pot dictator can dance on his stupid head with impunity

  • Jonah

The ex generals and other leftist pawns who went on tv to suggest these Navy people were just captain giligans who got lost really boils me. Our navy people here are being held hostage and it should be 100 percent unacceptable.

  • scocope

Well Pam you predicted that one, nary a mention tonight. I’d normally advise an investment in lottery tickets with those predictive powers, but then we all knew our child-President wasn’t about to make his Mullahs mad at him tonight.

  • Boris Badinov

This appears to be a gesture to show their contempt for Obama and his “deal”, that they intend to do whatever they damn well please. So far, and this comes as NO surprise, our reaction indicates they have been entirely successful.

  • RetiredNavyphotog

I find this story hard to believe – the boats drifted into Iranian waters?
Don’t they have GPS? Don’t they have a radio to alert US superiors they were having mechanical trouble?
Is this a staged “Gulf of Tonkin” incident to provoke the US bombing Iran?

  • volksnut

If they drifted into irans territorial waters than the Iranians actually had the right to detain them – Just like we would if the Iranians/Russians/Chinese communists/north Koreans were to trespass in our territorial waters –
