Lockdown at Catholic University: Armed “Middle Eastern” Suspect on Campus Making “Terroristic threats”

More terror.

“D.C. police locate a “suspicious person” at Catholic University,” By Martin Weil, Washington Post, December 8, 2015 (thanks to Patrick):

Catholic University students were advised Tuesday night for the second time in less than 24 hours to shelter in place while authorities investigated a report of a possible armed suspect on campus.

Story continues below advertisement

Just before 9 p.m., the D.C. police said they had “located the suspicious person.”

About an hour later, the university said it had lifted the shelter in place order. It also said that the person who had prompted Tuesday night’s order was not the same person who had been sought during the alert that began early Tuesday.

The university’s Tuesday night alert was sent about 8:30 p.m. and advised members of the university community to shelter in place while D.C. police and the university’s public safety department investigated the report. of a possible suspect.

A strikingly similar alert was issued about 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. Authorities said they searched, but nothing was found.

The university said the Monday night/Tuesday morning search was initiated after a custodial worker reported being approached by a man with a weapon.

The man reportedly approached the worker at Panborn Hall about 10:30 p..m. Monday, and asked directions to the administration building.

In a message posted Tuesday on the university’s Facebook site, the university’s president, John Garvey, offered an explanation of the overnight response. He said the suspect had “made claims that sounded to our custodian like terroristic threats.”

A description provided on a university social media site had said the individual had a Middle Eastern appearance.

The alerts heightened tensions on a campus where students are preparing for finals. They came at a time of increased concern in this country and around the world about terrorist attacks and mass shootings.

Comments posted on the university’s Facebook site indicated a variety of responses, including fear, calls for prayer and suggestions that finals be canceled and students be sent home.

Selena Gomez is a Global Crisis That Must Be Stopped
Or something…
Since 2010, vastly more people, worldwide, have been interested in Selena Gomez than global warming. Never heard of Selena Gomez? Well then, I rest my case. The world is much more interested in Selena Gomez than global warming, and you have never heard of her. What’s global warming?

Of course
It might help the political class if they paid attention to things that the citizenry actually cared about, like Islamic terrorism. Instead of global warming, which is dumber than the killer bee scare.

I propose a tax on Selena Gomez, because she might be causing rising sea levels.

Anyone carrying firearms openly is looking for trouble. There is nothing wrong with carrying a pistol discretely in your purse or jacket, but do not wave it around to attract attention, you will get it. People with rifles in town are not the brightest, rethink that one.

Absolutely nothing wrong with open carry. It’s protected by the Second Amendment. I do believe the gentlemen who penned the Constitution were a bit more wise than gun control advocates. The truth is a person with a gun on their hip is much less likely to be the victim of an attack of any kind. Terrorists are cowards, that’s why they’ve committed terrorist attacks in gun free zones.

Of course you and Mahou are both right. Open carry is (or should be) legal in the US in all States. In the West of the 1800’s, open carry was common, but it was dangerous for a person to waive a weapon around, as if they intended to use it. Weapons were to be kept holstered until they are absolutely needed.

That rule still makes sense.

The big reason not to carry a rifle around in public is that they are a bit awkward in crowded urban environments. But, if you can manage it, fine. However it also identifies the bearer as a threat to the terrorist, removing the element of surprise. Fight to win, not to make a statement, that is what gets American forces in trouble.

Yes, I agree. In the 1700s, men who could afford it carried two weapons. A cape, and a sword. The cape was for defense, as in whacking the attacker in the face with the cape to obscure their vision, or rolling it up around a fore-arm to defend against a knife or sword attack. And a dirk or stiletto was also often carried secretly. Sometimes a sword was concealed in a cane.

In this context, it’s more understandable why Americans would insist on the right to bear arms. It was common in Europe, and it made sense, because lawlessness was common everywhere.

The need for the individual to protect themselves when the government can’t or won’t has always been with us. The technology has changed, the individual’s choices for security accoutrements has as well.

Areas with open carry laws have the lowest instances of gun violence. Have you ever heard the famous phrase, “One sword keeps another in the sheath.” by George Herbert? It means that if a criminal sees that you are armed, he will not attack you, choosing an unarmed victim instead. It’s criminal common sense 101.

Ok, prevention is better than cure, better not to have to rely on the element of surprise.

Yes, brandishing is a crime in many places. The only time one should pull out their gun (aside from practice and hunting) is when they have to use it in self defense.

Here is an interesting history of how patriotic Americans dealt with the Mormon cult. Perhaps instructive for us today:

There are lessons to be learned form the Mormons and their eventual assimilation into society. Although don’t agree with much of their believes, they are honest and an asset to the community. Their history has some violence and other socially unacceptable practices, but they got over it. Islam has no intention of improving as it is perfect in its ignorant violence.

My point was that if the Supreme Court (Mormon marriage cases) and the Carthage Greys had not done their duty, there would have been no impetus for the Mormons to assimilate. They were forced to do so, because else they would have been arrested for bigamy and run out of Utah like they were run out of Illinois.

We know we have numerous Muslims living in the US in polygamist marriages today with the second, third and fourth wives sucking off of our welfare system. Where are the bigamy prosecutions?

As far as Mormons being an “asset” to the community, go talk to the County Tax Assessor in Hancock County, Il. The Mormons have returned to rebuild Nauvoo and they build large 8000 sq ft + homes and designate them as “religious retreats” to escape having the pay property taxes on them, yet they are not hesitant to use schools and police services they are not paying for. That doesn’t seem like an asset to me.

Just watch, in time the Mormons will join with the Muslims to try to legalize polygamy, using the latest rulings on gay marriage to try to argue that the Mormon marriage cases are no longer good law. I hope Trump is President and has appointed a few new SC justices before this case goes up.

The problem with polygamy is as you say, it turns welfare into a cottage industry to be harvested by ethnic groups. There is some urgent need to reform the welfare system and stop it from becoming the hereditary trade of another generation of bums. Islam says a man can have up to four wives, if he can afford them. That is how it should be, if you want it, you pay for it. It should be possible to have “religious retreats” defined in such a way as to prevent the description from being a tax dodge.

(Drew the Infidel) — Notice the use of the politically correct “shelter in place” in lieu of “lockdown”. This does not tone down the rhetoric to make it less inflammatory but instead causes one to be less cognizant of the fact that their very life is in danger. Also, “life threatening injury” is used in place of “having their ass blown away”.

Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 —

“Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”

Was that a so-called “wet-back” law? That term is pejorative now, and it really just meant Mexicans who did field work in the US. I have read that those laws were effective. Eisenhower was given credit for taking sensible measures to limit uncontrolled illegal immigration. Is that true? Do you knew if those laws really worked?
