Taxpayers could pay for Iran’s purchase of US-manufactured planes

The fallout from Obama’s Iran deal just keeps getting worse. Now US taxpayers are liable to end up funding Iran’s terrorist activities. The legacy of Barack Obama is going to be bloody international terrorism on a massive scale, and untold numbers of destroyed lives.

“House Rejects Measure to Bar Ex-Im Financing for Terrorism Sponsors,” by Lachlan Markay, Washington Free Beacon, November 5, 2015:

Story continues below advertisement

Taxpayers could end up footing the bill for Iran’s purchase of American-manufactured planes thanks to legislation passed on Thursday that critics say facilitates U.S. support for an Iranian commercial airline sector frequently used in service of its international terrorist proxies.

If it materializes, that support would likely advance the interests of a major U.S. airline manufacturer that is eyeing business opportunities in Iran, has reported lobbying on the Iran deal, and has already benefitted tremendously from the controversial export finance agency at issue.

The House of Representatives on Thursday approved a highway support bill that reauthorizes funding for the U.S. Export-Import Bank, which finances the purchase of U.S. exports by foreign governments and corporations.

The day before, it rejected an amendment to the legislation that would have prohibited Ex-Im financing for governments that the State Department classifies as state sponsors of terrorism. There are three countries currently on that list: Syria, Sudan, and Iran.

The amendment’s opponents said it was unnecessary and duplicative of existing law. But its sponsor, Ed Royce (R., Calif.), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, explained in a floor speech that the recent Iranian nuclear deal could allow the Obama administration to circumvent existing prohibitions on Ex-Im support for the Islamic Republic.

“These common sense prohibitions are subject to presidential waivers and we have seen the president abuse waivers to pursue his agenda over and over again on Iran no matter what Congress thinks,” Royce said in a Wednesday speech on the House floor.

According to a report on the Iran deal’s sanctions relief measures from the Congressional Research Service, the president has the authority to waive four different executive orders prohibiting Ex-Im financing of Iranian purchases of U.S. goods.

Loopholes in other laws prohibiting Ex-Im support for Iran “could result in aid being made available” through the bank, the report said.

On Wednesday evening, Ex-Im officials sent a letter to Royce saying that they would not pursue a waiver to prohibitions on financing for Iran. A spokesman said that Royce would seek legislative assurances on that front.

“The House Foreign Affairs Committee will continue to pursue options to ensure this is permanent and statutory,” said Cory Fritz in an emailed statement.

Opponents of the nuclear deal worry that the president’s commitment to improving relations with the country might precipitate a waiver that would allow that financing.

“The [deal’s] public and non-public texts commit the United States to facilitating Iran’s economic normalization and growth,” said a senior official at a group involved in the legislative fight over the Iran deal.

“Short of an explicit statute with no waivers or loopholes that prohibits Ex-Im from funneling money toward deals with Iran—which doesn’t appear to exist—the President is not just able but almost compelled to promote those deals,” the official said.

That could result in indirect U.S. taxpayer support for Iranian terrorist proxies, according to Royce.

“Iran has a long history of using its commercial airlines to support its terrorist proxies. Its commercial flights are now flying military personnel to Syria, and when I say now I mean right now,” he said in his floor speech.

As early as August, Iranian officials signaled their intention to buy scores of commercial aircraft from the U.S. airline giant Boeing and its European competitor Airbus. Boeing is one of the top beneficiaries of Ex-Im financing, and that financing is often defended on the grounds that American companies might lose out on major contracts to foreign competitors.

“There’s no doubt there is huge potential, especially for Airbus and Boeing, to sell a large number of planes,” Adam Pilarski, an aerospace consultant, told Bloomberg in July.

Boeing exercised some of its considerable lobbying muscle in the run-up to the nuclear deal. Eleven of its lobbyists at the firm Monument Policy Group reported working on the issue.

The company is also a financial contributor to lawmakers who voted to strike down the Iran financing prohibition. Of the 63 House Republicans who voted to oppose Royce’s amendment, 48 have received campaign contributions from Boeing’s political action committee this year.

This is the action of a Republican controlled Congress. The names of all the traitors who voted in favor of the bill should be made public in order to kick them out office in the next election. This is a time when BIG BUSINESS has to play second fiddle to NATIONAL INTEREST AND SECURITY.

Just kicking them out is not enough, they need to be tried for treason. Then promptly taken to the gallows!

I wonder if Obama ever stops to think before he opens his big mouth.
The Muslims and Palestinians do not need any more encouragement from Jews to continue the slaughter. Besides, even if the Palestinians had their own state the violence would continue.
What Obama fails to understand is that no matter what Jews or Israelis do to placate the Palestinians and Muslims the desire to kill Jews will remain.
Obama has no idea or understanding of the mindset of the Iranian leaders, Palestinians or Arabs.

Obama has no idea of ANYTHING, let alone being in charge of a country. What a useless POS he is. January 2017 can’t come quick enough.

You’re right. Nothing will placate the Muslims and Palestinians. The ultimate goal of Islam and its sympathizers is to wipe Israel off the map. According to the Bible, it will not happen. G-d will vindicate Israel.

Why didn’t God save Israel in 70 AD?

Ron, why did Israel become a nation again on May 14,1948?
I don’t claim to have all the answers, but there are answers in the Bible. As a start, you may want to check out Deuteronomy 30:1-10.

He did. He exiled us, destroyed His house worship but didn’t wipe us off the map and out of history like so many extinct nations. He took His fury out on stones and left us alive with a sworn promise of reuniting with him when we’ve been punished enough and are ready to return. It’s like breaking the house and burning everything of sentimental value but not getting divorced or killing your spouse because you really want to get back together when things are patched up.

Jesus said, “Henceforth you will see my face no more until you say ‘blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord.'”
Do you think that may be why God did not intervene in 70 AD?

no. Jesus was not masia. I’ve done my research and Christianity does not add up. We can agree to disagree. If you want to know why, then take out the old testament. It’s very clear. Pay particular attention “I will never change my mind”… and the part that says anybody that does say He did is a false prophet. I do not wish to debate or offend but we have different beliefs. That is the BEAUTY of the US. Think over my previous comment, it’s far more profound a concept than you might think at first glance. FYI- i will not engage with you any further in a religious debate. We can both agree we want America to be safe and prosper. I wish you well.

Obama and other leftard politicians and their supporting media , choose not to acknowledge certain hard facts about those people and their inbred intolerances .
It’s why we have media giants that cherry pick which stories they will cover , they manipulate the news to suit their own agendas .
What is supposed to be hard facts is mostly opinion , dressed up to look like facts . One TV station here in Canada , proudly advertises that it interprets news stories for us so we can better understand the story .
Talk about a megalomaniac practice , as if people can’t be presented with facts and come to their own conclusions based on pure information .
Our media feels it’s their duty to take a story and consume all serious truths and crap out the rest on the 6 o”clock news .
Our new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau while on the campaign trail went to the most extremist Mosque in Canada and told them , that he and his party ( Canadian Liberal party ) didn’t just tolerate them but accepted everything about them .
So I expect we will have Shariah Law instated soon in Canada complete with stonings and beheadings and all the other oppressive and barbaric practices they cleave to ( least if they take PM Justin Trudeau’s words on face value )
It’s a very sad day indeed when the leader of your country publicly supports those who want to trample on our nation’s Constitution and Human Rights Charters and Laws ,,, I guess he has no respect for them either .

I disagree with you about Obama. He is a very smart and deliberate man which makes him all the more evil. He knows EXACTLY what he’s doing. He grew up Muslim and his ACTIONS clearly indicate that he still is one when it comes to the causes he tirelessly advances. This is willful.

Iran will buy planes and taxpayers will help flip the bill. Then Iran will train their pilots to fly the planes right into western cities pretending to be a commercial flight, but suddenly went off course with shipments of clocks.

There are times when a fragmentation bomb would come in handy. Stop complaining. Close down public schools by taking your children out of them. Take control of your towns and cities. Take control of the media. Make this a two=way war!

Only way I can think of to stop this idiocy , is for everyone who works for a living….to stop. Do nothing that would generate taxes for the thieves and criminals in Gov. . Close our borders, ourselves. No one works till Washington bows to our will. Billions in taxes will be lost everyday. For every threat issued by the Gov. ..we ignore. No organized head for Gov. and media to destroy. It`d only take a few days, or maybe the Gov. would try to starve us into submission. Hey, we`re about on starvation incomes now. The Gov. has us in submission already. No one will stop supporting them. It`s to much fun to complain and whine on sites like this. A suggested target date would be April 1 st. . The buzzards in DC always like to raise taxes on April 1. In the meanwhile, I`d hope the military would have the wisdom to stand down.

Oh Obama and his goons think .. they know what they are doing .. and unless We the People find way to stop him .. Far far worse is planned for us all … You love your family and friends? They are the ones who are going to die or be made penniless … Think that is overstating things? Ask yourself how Nazi Germany, Islamic Iran, Communist regimes in Russia, China and North Korea treat their people.
My advice is take on and take out the MSM first. Then protest in the millions in DC until charges are brought against 1 Barrack Obama for any of thousands of high crimes and acts of treason .. and of course ..against his associates.

The clock is ticking. You don’t think millions will die? Just wait … Millions of unborn children have died horribly in just the past few years. You and I, we .. are next .. Unite, fight or .. die …
