PEW Poll: Upwards of 287 million ISIS supporters in just 11 countries including 1/3 of Syria Refugees

ByPamela Geller on November 19, 2015
pew poll

A new poll by the Pew Research Center reveals significant levels of support for ISIS within the Muslim world. And another poll released in November shows that a third of Syrian refugees are ISIS sympathizers.  The  Pew poll validates everything I have been saying and blows the fiction the media, academic and cultural elites have been spinning clear out of the water.

Trust me, the numbers are higher. Much higher. The Muslims just admit to it.

Pew poll: Between 63 million and 287 million ISIS supporters in just 11 countries
By Sierra Rayne, The American Thinker, November 19, 2015

A new poll by the Pew Research Center reveals significant levels of support for ISIS within the Muslim world.  In 11 representative nation-states, up to 14 percent of the population has a favorable opinion of ISIS, and upwards of 62 percent “don’t know” whether or not they have a favorable opinion of the Islamist group.
In Pakistan, a nuclear weapons state, only 28 percent of the public view ISIS unfavorably.  By this overwhelming degree of either tacit support or tolerance for ISIS in the country, ISIS should be considered as a potential proxy nuclear weapons power via its linkages and support within Pakistan.

When broken down by ethnicity and religion, the results are equally troubling.  In Israel, 4 percent of its Arab population – which equates to more than 66,000 individuals – have a favorable view of ISIS.  For Gaza and the West Bank, 5 and 8 percent, respectively, also hold a favorable view of ISIS.  In Nigeria, the ISIS favorability rating among the Muslim population soars to 20 percent.  Another 12 percent of Muslims in Malaysia take a similar positive view of ISIS.

Substantial support for ISIS also exists among Malaysia’s Buddhist population, where more than one third of respondents either view ISIS favorably or do not have a negative or positive opinion.  Non-negligible proportions of Christians in Burkina Faso (5 percent) and Nigeria (7 percent) have a favorable view of ISIS, with ISIS unfavorability ratings surprisingly low at just 66 and 71 percent, respectively, among this cohort.

Despite only minorities in each nation surveyed holding clear support for ISIS, the large total population of the region translates into a massive number of ISIS supporters.  For these 11 nation-states alone, the favorability ratings for ISIS reported by the Pew poll are indicative of at least 63 million ISIS supporters – and potentially upwards of 287 million if the undecided are included in the calculation.  These numbers suggest there are, at a minimum, hundreds of millions of ISIS supporters worldwide.

So between 63 & 287 million Muslims approve of Isis’ brand of islam. That seems to be enough to legitimize its relationship to Islam. Please correct me if I’m wrong but that’s a hellacious amount of people that like beheadings commercial level rape & slavery murder of innocents.
What do you think the percentage of agreement with these acts combining all other religions is? Now include atheists. Where do progressives like Obama fit in?

    • Akissej

Ah, a great example of how ill informed the masses are of the truth of what is actually occurring here.

      • Akissej

That was meant to post to a different comment. My bad Paul.

        • Paul A Hall

All good brother. I actually believe you have the right to disagree.

    • jonathanhakim

So are Malaysian Buddhists and African Christians already related to ISIS, since they support it at similar numbers according to this poll?

  • MamaDietzbeatzbuckwheatsheetz

I have to say these numbers seem a bit skewed as many followers of Islam have spoken out and claimed these heathens are perverting their religion.
Is this just a hate website or are you saying their all liars?
I can believe that if they are all just a bunch of lying barbarians but I find it difficult to believe that upwards of 63 million people would be in favor of beheading innocent people.

Muslims are encouraged to commit violence in the name of Islam.

Muslim theological documents — the Koran, Hadith, and Sunna — are filled with statements which encourage devout Muslims to commit violence in the name of Islam.

      Here are just a few:

Slay the unbelievers wherever you find them(2:191)

Make war on the infidels living in your neighborhood (9:123)

When opportunity arises, kill the infidels wherever you catch them (9:5)

Kill the Jews and the Christians if they do not convert to Islam or refuse to pay Jizya tax (9:29)

Any religion other than Islam is not acceptable (3:85)

The Jews and the Christians are perverts; fight them (9:30)

Maim and crucify the infidels if they criticize Islam (5:33)

The infidels are unclean; do not let them into a mosque (9:28)

Punish the unbelievers with garments of fire, hooked iron rods, boiling water; melt their skin and bellies (22:19)

Do not hanker for peace with the infidels; behead them when you catch them (47:4)

The unbelievers are stupid; urge the Muslims to fight them (8:65)

Muslims must not take the infidels as friends (3:28)

Terrorize and behead those who believe in scriptures other than the Qur’an (8:12)

Muslims must muster all weapons to terrorize the infidels

In addition to the Muslim theological documents mentioned above, Islamic social norms encourage violence. It is widely noted that Friday is the most likely day when jihad attacks will occur within Muslim society. This is because the mullahs use their Friday pulpits to encourage their flock to commit violence in the name of Islam.

In Muslim societies, even the media become involved in the incitement to violence. has translated thousands of articles from print and electronic media. These translated articles are filled with direct incitement to commit violence in the name of Islam.

Remarkably, some of the most glaring examples of incitement to violence come from new “converts” to Islam. Why would a new convert to Islam commit violence? The obvious answer is the “theological” incitement from their new religion — Islam’s core texts.

There is an unfortunate PC effort to deny, ignore and whitewash this Islam inspired violence. The amount of violence committed worldwide since 9/11 is simply too high to overlook.

The web site The Religion of Peace has been collecting, counting, and publishing a list of deadly Islamic terror attacks worldwide since 9/11/2001. As of January 1, 2014 the number was 22,178. Don’t let the PC crowd tell you it is just the same as the Christians, Buddhists, Hindus or the Jews — make them prove it. Only an intellectual buffoon would try to deny the relationship between Islam and violence.

    • Michael Copeland

Islam is not a Trade Union: teachings are not decided by a show of hands.
Only the source texts define the ideology.

Islam MANDATES violence against other political systems.
Jihad means “to war against non-muslims”: it is a “communal obligation .. ”.
(Manual of Islamic Law, “Reliance of the Traveller”, o9.0).
Fighting is not dependent on a wish to do it. It is INSTRUCTED:
“Warfare is ordained for you, though it is hateful unto you”, Koran 2:216.
      Muslims have no choice:
“It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger
have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision”,
      Koran 33:36.

The Koran is part of Islamic law.

One who denies any verse has to be killed.
The killing can be performed, penalty-free and vigilante style, by anyone “since it is killing someone who deserves to die” (“Reliance of the Traveller” o8.7(7), o8.4).
The Manual is available as a free download.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean by ‘skewed’. If you are in possession of information which casts doubts upon the accuracy of PEW polls then please share. Your irrelevant anecdotal ‘evidence’ to the contrary, there have been many polls undertaken recently whose results are entirely consistent. I suggest you google poll results regarding the percentage of muslims by nation that support sharia law and by extension its associated barbarities (death for apostacy, criticism of islam etc). I am continually shocked and dismayed by the broad denial and willful ignorance displayed by the greater portion of westerners despite all evidence to the contrary. You say you find it difficult to believe that 63 million people would be in favor of beheading innocent people. Well it all depends upon your definition of innocent now doesn’t it. Muslims do not share your values, set aside some time and read the koran to find out just to what extreme.

    • Jim Fox

“hate” has NOTHING TO DO WITH the results of a poll taken amongst Muslims. Your personal bias is irrelevant… but typical of the brainwashed muslim mind. A lie is a lie even if 1.5 billion robots believe it.

    • jonathanhakim

The poll also claims that Malaysian Buddhists and African Christians support ISIS in similar numbers. Obviously these small 7-8% “yes” response rates are polling errors, and translating them into the actual support of millions of people is a really stupid way to read a poll.

ISIS knew their bases in Syria would get bombed as a result of Paris.

      • Po Tato

What do you mean ‘if  turkey provides safe haven for the terrorists’?

If not because of Turkey you think the Islamic State had a chance to survive, let alone to control such a vast territory?

It was Turkey all alone which provides all kinds of support to the Islamic States

  • Mahou Shoujo

Not surprising, islam is violent and violently enforces its tenets on a submissive population. No one will curiosity isis/islam knowing that death is an option they will use to assure submission and compliance to them. Also, primitive societies and cultures which believe in magic ritual and culture cult superstition are reluctant to change. Not unlike progressive politically correct multiculturalists who believe their way is the only way.

There is virtually no support of ISIS among Malaysia’s Buddhist Population. This is a mistake and the facts about that in this article needs to be corrected. Malaysia has over 60% Muslim population and only about 20% Buddhists. There is no doubt that there is a significant number of Muslims that support ISIS in Malaysia but among Buddhists, there are probably none.

    • nani

      Hi Mike,

If the Malaysian Muslims support ISIS, the minority Buddhist shall be wiped out or beheaded long time ago. For your info, the Buddhist, Hindus etc came to Malaysia hundreds years ago. Currently, so many of the Buddhist has became billionaires and millionaires in Malaysia as they control most of Malaysia business activities…

Clearly, ISIS is enemy of Islam. ISIS executing Sunni Muslim clerics and Imams for refusing to swear allegiance to ISIS.

      ISIS’s Gruesome Muslim Death Toll

What makes this 26-page report (PDF) so powerful is that it describes to us the gruesome circumstances in which ISIS has killed fellow Muslims. We are talking beheadings, killing of women for objecting to ISIS’ policies, and executing Sunni Muslim clerics for refusing to swear allegiance to ISIS.

      – On September 9, ISIS executed a Sunni Imam in western Mosul for refusing to swear loyalty to ISIS. -On July 22, a Sunni Imam in Eastern Baquba was killed for simply denouncing ISIS.

Having been to Malaysia, spending time there with Buddhist friends and conducting business there, I can say firsthand that your information is incorrect. There is no ‘significant’ support by Buddhists in Malaysia of ISIS. Buddhists in Malaysia DO NOT support ISIS and to say otherwise is pure ignorance or fabrication of facts. The wealthy people you speak of, and there are scores, are virtually all Chinese. It is a mistake to assume that because they are Chinese ethnically, that they are Buddhists. Some may occasionally visit the Temple but a true Buddhist does not support extremism. The fact is, most of these people have nothing to do with Buddhism just as the rich Muslims have nothing to do with Islam. Money is their religion, not Buddhism or Islam. The lay members of the Buddhist community, I can assure you, do NOT support ISIS but they get along well with moderate and secular Muslims and there are many more poor but dedicated Buddhists in Malaysia than rich ones. In fact there are significant numbers of tycoons in Malaysia that are Muslim, Tamil, and even Christian. I challenge you to post any quotes from a Chinese Buddhist billionaire that he is a supporter of ISIS. What possible benefit would ISIS have to a Malaysian Chinese billionaire? As far as the history of Buddhism in Malaysia, if you will do actual research on it, Islam did indeed nearly wipe out Buddhism by economics, force or Taqiyya around the 11th Century and has remained the dominant religion to this day. Today, the two groups live in peace. Whatever support for ISIS that exists in Malaysia, its from poor, uneducated provincial Muslims but sympathizers are many. Your notion of beheadings of Buddhists by Malaysian supporters of ISIS does not make any sense either.

        • Person223

Buddhists get along fine with Muslims. Unfortunately, the reverse isn’t always true. The wiping out of other religions by Islam through force, economics or taqiyya still occurs. We need to watch out.

      • Jim Fox

For your information, Islam arrived LAST of Malay[si]a’s religions—

Similar to the Indonesian Archipelago, the native Malays practised an indigenous animism and dynamism beliefs before the arrival of Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam.
It is unclear when the first Indian voyages across the bay of Bengal occurred. Conservative estimates place the earliest arrivals to Malay shores at least 1,700 years ago.[10]

    • jonathanhakim

Obviously such tiny support numbers are polling errors, not actual support. Malaysian’s Buddhists do not support ISIS, nor do Nigerian’s Christians, nor do most of the Muslims in these countries, even the tiny % who say “yes” on the polls…responses at that tiny a level are just as often polling errors as actual response.

  • Michael

1/3 of Syrian refugees support ISIS huh, why don’t they stay and fight with them then? Perhaps they have an ulterior motive for leaving Syria. How can governments across the world not see this?

    • Po Tato

Will all cancer cells stay inside the cancerous tumor?

      Yes, or no?

    • Who is John Galt?

Islamic expansion is controlled by those in power (Saudi-Arabia etc). The refugees themselves are usually uneducated people, they are just too coward to fight with their favorite terror organization and/or seek relaxed life (you get a relatively high social benefits in Europe, that’s why they all want to Germany which is one of the richest countries in Europe).

By the way Pamela rounded up pretty much when saying one third. According to Doha Institute’s study it’s 13% that are in favor and 10% with „mixed or lukewarm feelings“ towards them, summed up 23%. So it’s actually a quarter, not a third. However that’s definitely more than enough and just because the other 77% are not in favor of ISIS doesn’t mean they don’t wouldn’t be in favor of Sharia law. I think about 90% of muslim Syrian refugees will be supporting Sharia law and a theocratic state.

      • jonathanhakim

No, even that answer is wrong.

Only 4% of respondents were in favor – in other words, Syrian refugees were less likely to favor ISIS than Malyasian Buddhists or Nigerian Christians.

        Another 9% were lukewarm positive.

        The rest were negative.

And Syria was a lower-middle income nation before all this happened, fairly modern, over 90% literacy, and not particularly religious. There is no way that 90% of Syrians support a theocratic state.

    • jonathanhakim

Obviously the answer is a lie. The actual number that said they were strongly in favor was 4%.

  • mjazzguitar

There’s an article at Breitbart about an American Syrian who says it’s impossible to vet Syrian refugees, and why.

We need to understand this one thing — even the moslems who do not agree with the Islamic States agrees to the fact that the killing of infidels is the correct way to serve ‘allah’

Pam, the Pew survey reveals 287 millions who are sympathetic to ISIS – but I can tell you that over 1.6 billion moslems all over the world will think of nothing but killing off all the infidels so they can get to enjoy Planet Earth all to themselves

    • Who is John Galt?

There is one group of muslims, that are peaceful: the alevis – and this small minority aren’t seen as muslims from 95% of Islamic world. That says everything about this “religion”.
Sunnis and Shias are either fascists or non-practicizing. Period.

  • CarolinaO

Usama Dakdok- former muslim Egyptian- explains that a moderate muslim is a non-practicing Muslim & the practicing muslim is instructed to target them along with non-muslim. It’s in the muslim sacred book. Dakdok is translating it into English so the version is authentic to its original message.

    • Michelle

The moderate still subsidize and shelter the jihadists willingly or not.

  • Dennis

This is further proof that we must refuse to allow immigration here by the Islamic “refugees’ from the Middle East. Obviously, to the extent there are people who are Muslim, some of them are not terrorists. Unfortunately, their culture has allowed their so-called “belief” system to be hijacked by the terrorist Jihadists and I, for one, do not have any sympathy for the followers of Islam. When you observe that they applaud terrorist activity, violate a moment of silence for the Paris dead, continue to attack innocents around the world, and recognize that this culture will never be able to live side by side in peace with those who are non-Muslims, it should be easy for anyone with the ability to think that they are an inherently dangerous group. Why should we be concerned about orphans and youngsters, when Islam teaches and directs them to hate all non-Muslims, turning them into future martyrs, who consider death to be a priority over life. I, for one, believe that it is suicide for this country to allow ingress by those Islamic followers. POTUS and those others who are willing to open our borders to these people are not only foolish and dangerous to everything that is American, but to simultaneously believe that Islam will suddenly change from a philosophy that preaches world domination, to peaceful co-existence is nonsense. Islam has maturated into an apocalyptic society controlled by religious bigots, and no revolution changing the way they think is ever going to happen that would justify our allowing these people of that culture into America. We must fight the lunacy that even believes that to allow that is somehow safe.

    • Michelle

The moderate muslim has had 1400 years to justify the title and has failed miserably. I don’t care if they are moderate I do not want them or any other muslim.

    • jonathanhakim

No Buddhists or Christians either, since according to the poll they support ISIS at simimlar levels?

  • Michelle

Quite honestly I do NOT believe that poll nor ANY official western government statistics. Just take a brief look at the results for Pakistan and tell me if you believe them. I know that MY federal government lies about the number of muslims here and so does the MSM, So I would take those minimal results with a dose of salt. IMO the problem is far larger. Just look at the (now heavily restricted) videos of cheering muslims after Paris.

How the hell can ANY christian be in favour of ISIS? I mean.. According to the poll in Nigeria it’s 7% of christians that are in favour of ISIS… That’s a hell lot of people. What’s wrong with them? Are they suicidal? Don’t they know what ISIS even is?
    Seriously.. Why??

    • jonathanhakim

Yes, obviously the tiny “yes” responses across the board in this poll (Christian, Buddhist, and Muslim) are mostly just polling errors. That’s why trying to translate such tiny 7% response numbers into “63 million Muslims support ISIS!!!!” is idiocy.

Go to the very bottom and what do you see? 62% of Pakistanis are unsure about ISIS; they are neither for nor against it. After all the bombings, bloodshed, atrocities and crimes nearly two thirds of Pakistan can’t make up its mind whether ISIS is good or evil; whether it represents the true Islam of Allah, the Prophet and the Koran or a distorted version of the faith. In other words, 115,000,000 Pakistanis are sitting on the fence watching the turn of events, waiting to see how things pan out and progress.

Unbelievable as it is these 115 million are potential ISIS supporters open to being radicalized, to believing that ISIS’ violent, predatory, intolerant version of Islam is the absolute God-given TRUTH. They are open to believing that Islamic State Caliph Abu al-Baghdadi is Mohammed resurrected from the grave, and that his jihadis are the true army of Allah and Islam. What this means, chilling as it is, is that if ISIS isn’t defeated and thoroughly crushed, if it’s perceived as the winner and strong horse in the conflict with its Moslem and infidel foes, that the 9% of pro-ISIS Pakistanis (a whopping 19 million people) will grow; and if in time it becomes a majority (which is possible) Pakistan could unite with ISIS becoming part of its caliphate; and that would be the greatest catastrophe of the 21st century.

For that would make the caliphate of terror and death a nuclear armed state controlling 200 thermo nuclear bombs with the means of delivering them 1100 miles with medium range ballistic missiles-and farther by jet. That is a terrifying prospect. Apart from that the 11 countries surveyed in the poll found 63 million Moslems supporting ISIS; and that is only 10 of 57 Moslem states. That means a potential 100 million plus Moslems support ISIS (on the low end). That’s very, very troubling and cause for alarm.

The fear mongering hear is abhorrent. This same scene has played over and over again throughout history. Why just a few years ago it was the Mexicans who were going to hijack America from the inside. Anyone remember that?! Eastern Europeans during the Cold War. Japanese during WWII….and on and on. People are all the same no matter how many times you clan minded try to say we’re not. The environment is the only difference. And if you’re saying to yourself “but this is different” muslims kill hundreds of us. Well. Actually. On American soil it was less than 10. Out of 30,000 gun deaths last year. So no. And just in January alone our imperialistic drone program killed 423 civilians including 172 children! And that’s just in Pakistan. So clearly we’re the more dangerous people. If you are too cowardly to open your doors to these oppressed people just say that. But don’t pretend that this isn’t what America is about. If you need a reminder go read the Statue of Liberty.

  • D Cripps

I’m joining this rather late but, regarding the poll on Malaysian Buddhist support, here’s a link to page 2 of the Pew poll…
…69% of Malaysian Buddhists polled as unfavourable toward ISIS; 6% were favourable; 29% ‘didn’t know’ or had no view. In case people are pondering why these percentages total 104% of Malaysian Buddhists, Pew explains that numbers are ’rounded’.

  • ldness

How on earth can you read this chart and come up with the headline “Upwards of 287 million ISIS supporters in just 11 countries”? If someone says “They don’t know”, you count them as a supporter?

Multiply each “favorable” percentage by the population of that country, and then by the percentage of the population who are over the age of 14, and you get a far lower figure. If you want to make a point with actual numbers, go right ahead, but don’t pretend that everyone is completely stupid.
