Air France wipes Israel off of the map…literally

61

The Vichy government lives on. The more things change, the more they same the same. Hubristic and viciously cowardly, it’s ironic that France would wipe Israel off the map — like the Germans did to France when she unconditionally surrendered. America saved her once; it won’t happen again. We will have our hands full trying to save ourselves.

Air France’s Facebook page — leave a comment. Keep it clean and rational (unlike the French).

“Air France wipes Israel off of the map…literally,” Jerusalem Post, August 3, 2015

Story continues below advertisement

Passengers on an Air France flight to Paris noticed something missing from their in-flight map.

An Air France in-flight map omits Israel, according to a passenger who sent a photo to the Facebook page of the pro-Israel organization StandWithUs. In the photo of the map, there were only indicators of where the West Bank and the Gaza strip are. Since posting that photo, other members of the Facebook page have started posting their own photos, taken on Air France flights, of the in-flight maps sans Israel.

In a letter to Air France chairman and CEO, Frédéric Gagey, the Simon Wiesenthal Center director for international Relations, Dr. Shimon Samuels, noted that, “French members of our center have sent us reportedly captured shots from the English and French language of an Air France flight-path, taken last week between New York and Paris, and the locations ‘Israel’ and ‘Tel Aviv’ are glaringly absent.”

The letter noted that, “We are asked whether Air France has succumbed to the BDS [Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions] campaign to delegitimize the Jewish State by literally wiping it off the map?”

Air France issued an apology, saying they “deeply regret this incident, due to a map scale and display problem which is currently being resolved.”

In 2009, British Midland International Airlines, a subset of of British Airways, apologized for omitting Israel from their in-flight maps, also attributed the mistake to a technical error.

No link at all between Vichy antisemitism (bastards who felt french jews weren’t french enough) and current antisemitism in France (coming from people who don’t even consider themself french).
However, if you implied that the collaborationist spirit lives on in the current socialist governement (only interested in placating muslim interests), I will agree.

And why would you say that ??? What is the “misrepresentation” you speak of but don’t define?
Antisemitism today is actually worse than 1930. Back then, the world came together against a common enemy, Germany: this time, the world is coming together against the only Democracy in the Middle East, Israel. Next month, the World Council of Churches, the EU, the UN and the US as well as all 57 Muslim countries, while the Pope is addressing the US Congress and then the the world from the UN, all the 136 nations that have signed their approval of a Palestinian State, as well as Obama, will be FORCING that mythical state for a mythical people upon the Democratic State of Israel. Wake up and smell the coffee.
Will you vote to evict all Jews from East Jerusalem and allow it to became the Capitol of this mythical Palestinian State ?
Will you stand by and allow your defenses to be abolished by returning to the “green line” ?
Will you accept the :deal that the Pope will offer in the name of “peace” ??

Reverend, I am quite puzzled by your answer and unsure wether you read my post:

– When I say there is no link between 2015 antisemitism in France and “in 1930” (in think you actually refer to 1940s Vichy antisemitism?…) it is because the difference is huge:

Pre-WW2 and WW2 french antisemitism was because of french people who deemed the jews “not french enough”. 2015 antisemitism in France stems from people who don’t consider themself french.

I you want to fight evil, you have to know what this evil is about.

When you write “Will you vote to evict all Jews from East Jerusalem and allow it to became the Capitol of this mythical Palestinian State ?”, I am afraid I don’t even know what you are referring to, France has been an historical staunch supporter of Israel, even though of late, leftist propaganda has us kow-towing to muslim groups.

i agree with the rev below. in the 1930’s, there was at least a christian nation across the atlantic to which jews could flee. that nation now has an illegal alien muslim president (and an electorate who approve of him) who has shouted to the world that “america was never a christian nation”, that we are not allowed to “slander the name of the prophet”, and who is openly arming iran and the muslim world for the destruction of israel. the 1930’s will look pretty tame for jews relative to the world that obola and his handlers are preparing for 2016.

Thank you David, I was going to bring up that episode myself. Many of the jews fleeing germany ended up in France, to be turned to the germans under the occupation. Note – occupied France turned over foreign jews, I don’t recall even the Vichy government doing so until it was occupied itself (after 1942).

Even here, in Brazil, where I live, one jewish pregnant woman -Olga Benário – a communist married to a communist who was against the government, was deported to Germany where she died in a concentration camp. All this story was transformed in a movie. On those days our government was pro-nazi and only after great pressure of the USA they sent troops to Italy. We even had a kind of Schindler here, a diplomat who issued visas to jews against the will of our President…(who was a dictator).

Just because muslums have ethnically cleansed Jewish populations from Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and N. Africa doesn’t mean they’re antisemitic or anything like that. Duh. What a f’ing tool.

Do you think a Jew, or anyone else for that matter, gives a damn, when he or she is being beaten or murdered, whether the assailant is a fascist Frenchman or a Muslim Jew hater? The French must decide what is more important, protection of all of their citizens, or closing their eyes to the anti-Semitism inherent in Islam, and allowing these Jew-hating Muslims to flood the country. We all know Muslims refuse to integrate. The French, with their general attitude of superiority to anyone not French, would, I would expect, not accept this destruction of French culture. Oil and water do not mix. So the French are willing to sacrifice their Jewish citizens on the Marxist altar of multi-culturalism that for some unexplained reason does not include Jews. That sounds like old- fashioned fascist French anti-Semitism. One suspects that French Jew-hatred is deeply embedded in French culture.

Leclem
Leclem

Well, Canadian patriot, to answer your first point, there is a huge difference between beeing assailled by a french fascist and a muslim jew hater (please let me explain). In the first case, the french antisemitic person despises the jew because “he is not french enough”, whereas the muslim jew hater does not even perceive himself as french : the difference is that you don’t deal with either of these nutcases the same way.
Then you said something which I deem totally wrong, and one absolutelly right; where we differ first :

When you say “So the French are willing to sacrifice their Jewish citizens on the Marxist altar of multi-culturalism that for some unexplained reason does not include Jews.”, you are entirelly wrong. In regards to the french jews who were turned over during the occupation, our attitude is that our mistake was primarly to have turned over french citizen – they were in our eyes (allow me to speak collectively) french before being jewish.

I’ll mention something symptomatic (which I hope will let you understand a different point of view than yours): When Algeria was turned into a french territory at the end of the 19th century, they were people who had been living there for centuries before (jews and muslims). The Republic decided to grant automatic french citizenship because it was deemed they would naturally fit in with our Republic, whereas this was declined to muslims whose values were deemed incompatible with our democratic nation (please check out the “Cremieux Edict”).

I will also quote the lawmaker Clermond-Tonnere under the revolution “We mustn’t do anything for the french jews as a jewish nation, byt everything for them as french citizens”. It is a very different notion than what would be common in anglo-saxon democracies, but it is all about equality – I hope you will redefine your vision of “french antisemitism”.

Where I agree with you :

“The French must decide what is more important, protection of all of their citizens, or closing their eyes to the anti-Semitism inherent in Islam, and allowing these Jew-hating Muslims to flood the country.”

Your are entirelly right, something has changed latelly, mainly due to the political establishment trying to placate a voting base (the muslims).

Jean Marie Le Pen is probably a nasty vichy type antisemite, but that has changed a lot with the newcomers (his daughter who took over the party is trying to clean it up, and trials are ongoing with her dad to evict him). As I tell my jewish friends, “as a jew, there is more to fear from a socialist party trying to bid for the muslim vote, than there is to fear from Marine Le Pen” and all the violent antisemitic acts in France over the past years have proven this to be right.

Which is in effect radical marxism/leftism. Who did muslims side with in WW2? Who do they side with now in Russia/China. Islam is leftist in it’s nature in that it is a political movement that uses religion as it’s cement. That is what Sharia is. That is what Islam is. Leftism as an ideology has to be removed from the minds of it’s adherents and when you couple the death ideology of leftism with lunatics who ascribe to it, you have a force multiplied enemy that has to be eliminated.

An interesting point but that deserves to be developped – historically, arab terrorism has sided with the left since WW2 against the “colonial powers” and with the assistance of the soviet union, it was not at the time religiously motivated (I all talking about for instance the algerian independance war where this issue was hardly ever raised). This later changed with the invasion of Afghanistan by the USSR and the arab movement was superseded by a muslim one, when some of the western powers decided to use this change of tide and support muslims movements.

Arab terrorism is muslim terrorism. The two are synonymous. The only exceptions are arabs who were/are not muslims. Western powers used these forces/movements as proxies against their larger foe, the soviets. Chinese aggression wasn’t anything at the time like it is now.

Agenda 21 is about as effective as the Kyoto treaty. People need to stop and look at it and read it. There is really nothing there. It is non-binding in any way, shape, or form. It’s basically make work for the UN bureaucratic set. Do you even know what is in Agenda 21? Have you read all 351 pages? I have and it is basically a recipe for how to manage growth in a sustainable way. I’m not a fan of that because I believe in individual rights, not collectivism. It’s a collectivist screed that has little to no bearing on reality. It’s nebulous, ambiguous, and in effect an unsustainable document that will benefit no one, much less how it could possibly be implemented.

Now, you can see someone like Obama trying to possibly implement some portions of it. Like his attacks on the energy industry as a whole. He thinks that he is somehow meeting some checkbox as a basis behind Agenda 21, but no one and no country would or could implement any of it without subjugating the entire planet and I don’t see that happening as long as freedom and liberty minded people like you are vigilant. In effect, yes, Agenda 21 exists, but it isn’t the boogey man. If you really want to rail against a boogey man, then go after the leftists now as they stand. Frankly, I’d like to see the UN gone from within the confines of US territory and the US leave the UN and stop funding it. Then you can watch it collapse under the weight of its own hubris.

France is no place for Jews. In the August issue of Vanity Fair, a long, detailed report portrays how life in France is becoming untenable for Jews, and why they are leaving in accelerating numbers:

The Troubling Question in the French Jewish Community: Is It Time to Leave?

Marie Brenner reports on an incendiary wave of anti-Semitism in France and speaks firsthand to one of the hostages from the siege on the Hyper Cacher kosher market.

‘How can anyone be allowed to paint a swastika on the statue of Marianne, the goddess of French liberty, in the very center of the Place de la République?”

That was what the chairman of one of France’s most celebrated luxury brands was thinking last July, when a tall man in a black shirt and a kaffiyeh leapt to the ledge of Marianne’s pedestal and scrawled a black swastika. All around him, thousands of angry demonstrators were swarming the square with fake rockets, Palestinian and Hamas flags, even the black-and-white banners of ISIS. Here, barely a mile and a half from the Galeries Lafayette, the heart of bourgeois Paris, the chants: “MORT AUX JUIFS! MORT AUX JUIFS!” Death to the Jews. It was Saturday, July 26, 2014, and a pro-Palestinian demonstration turned into a day of terror in one of the most fashionable neighborhoods of the city.

“Do something! Do you see what is happening here?” the chairman said to a line of police officers watching the demonstration build to a frenzy. “What do you expect us to do?” one officer said, then looked away. For years, the chairman, a longtime anti-racism activist, has turned up at rallies like this one to see which politicians and which radical groups were present. (For reasons of personal safety, the chairman asked not to be identified for this story.) France’s endless demonstrations are a mainstay of the republic, a sacred right rooted in the legacy of Voltaire. But hate speech is a criminal offense—people may express their opinions, but not to the extent of insulting others based on their race, religion, or sex. The protest—against Israel’s Gaza policies—had been banned by the government, fearful of violence, following flare-ups in the preceding weeks. But if the police were to move in too quickly, the riots might continue all summer long—suburbs in flames, mobs in central Paris.M

This issue is available on newstands as well as online, and I bought a copy to show solidarity with those who report honestly on the Jew hate spreading across Europe.

News like this is being visibly and actively suppressed. Vanity Fair is a high-profile, high-prestige outlet, yet have you seen reference to this report on the web? Heard it on the radio or seen it on TV?

I’ll bet you haven’t. No need to wonder why.

OK – let’s cool things down a bit.
Pamela is a big hero of mine, so as a french person I was quite hurt by this article which I found unfair (if you let me explain without too much eye rolling):

First, what appears on this map is absolutely NOT OK, and I hope an enquiry will be made into it – but – playing devil’s advocate, and having had to peer at those maps on planes all over the world, they are very sketchy and seem to randomly pick names to show (for instance that one shows city names in Egypt, but not “Egypt”, it does not show countries either that could appear such as “Jordan”, “KSA”, etc… – So, not having all countries appear on those maps is pretty common, however – having “Gaza Strip” and “West Bank” appear is much more troubling… The problem is therefore not that Israel does not appear but that some effort was made to choose Gaza and West Bank.

Secondly, (and that is a CRUCIAL POINT) I am quite sure that Pamela knows that there is no continuity between Vichy antisemitism and current antisemitism. That is a huge problem we have in France: whenever antisemitism is on the rise, our leftist media are prone to denounce “old europe” antisemitism (which is a very minor phenomenon nowadays) rather than point out fingers towards muslim antisemitism. Out of all people, Pamela knows that.

Thirdly, a point of history (off the subject), there are 2 official historical versions of WWII, the first one is that France did surrender, but it was not an “unconditional surrender” as stated here, as Vichy (a puppet governement) tried to secure some terms, such as a southern free zone, and retain oversea territories and full control of the fleet (one of the biggest in the world in those days). The second possible official version was that “France” did not surrender but kept on fighting through De Gaulle from Britain all the way through, it was officially recognized as such by allies governement which secured a seat as winning power at the victory table, and a permanent seat at the UN security concil. It may sound silly in retrospect, but allied governement de facto recognized that France had not surrendered from the moment they recognized De Gaulle as the french representative.

Absolutelly not Michael!!!! There was antisemitism in France under Vichy. There is antisemitism nowadays – that is a fact. But it is not the same thing! Even a “Vichy type antisemitic person” (I don’t know a single one in France personnaly by the way) will feel no connection whatsoever to the muslims (and their views). ALL the antisemitic events we’ve had over the past years (at least since 2001 when I made it back to France and followed the events were perpetrated by muslims who do not even consider themselves french (the Merah shootings, the Kouachi brothers, the Coulibally supermarket attacks etc… )! Each time some trouble appears, the media are trying to hide very hard not to pinpoint the culprits (use of aliases etc…). And the appalling fact is that our leftist papers and media do not like to make the distinction (self chastising is one of the biggest modus operandi in France nowadays), better call ourselves “racists” than point the finger at a specific community. Usually Pamela is right on target on this issue, but she let the ball drop on that one, and I think it is a tactical mistake.
The other problem is that France official policy has been to placate and appease muslim communities, I fear this

I agree that overt Jew hatred in France has become the province of the Muslims, and that this is in fact different from the “Catholic Order of Petain” that was embodied in Xavier Vallat.

Still, French soil has always been conducive to anti-Semitism, and today it is the French Left that is enabling, if not encouraging this ugly resurgence.

On that, I think we both agree.

Yes, I tried to play the devil’s advocate and explain this, those maps are very sketchy and they seem to randomly pick some places (i.e. in the map discussed, we don’t see Israel, but we don”t see jordan or KSA either that could fit there). The mistake was mostly to have Gaza strip and west bank appear though…

Why this does not surprise me?

What map scale? There are West Bank and Gaza Strip. Small parts of Israel, Palestinian territories. This is not an error. I can understand that some Muslim who work in France did this. Even intentional mistake I understand. It’s Muslims. They do that. But do not insult my intelligence telling me, “…due to a map scale…”.

The program showing the map determines which names to show and which to hide when the names would overlap given the current scale of the map. I think it was certainly an error that whoever coded that algorithm allowed region names to take precedence over a country name, but from a programming standpoint it is actually easy to see how the region names would be shown but not the country name (again, assuming the hypothetical coding error described earlier).

That said, it should also be easy enough to fix.
