Not wanting to court danger, the Boca West Country Club has refused to host the Palm Beach Republican Party’s “Lobsterfest” dinner that advertised controversial Islamic critic Geert Wilders as the keynote speaker. Geert was part of the Garland, Texas, cartoon contest that invited participants to draw the Prophet Muhammad. Islamic law prohibits any image of the prophet to ward off idol worship.
However, extremists have violently attacked or threatened with death anyone who has published a drawing or depiction of Muhammad over the years. The belief was what prompted extremists to attack the headquarters of French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, where 12 staffers were gunned down.
Last week in Texas, in an attempt to fly directly in the face of that law, organizers put together a $10,000 Muhammad cartoon contest. The contest drew the attention of two gunmen who tried to kill participants with assault rifles. Police were able to thwart the attack and shot and killed the suspects. Not long after, ISIS announced that it was responsible for the attack.
As New Times reported on Thursday, Geert, a Dutch politician and known Islamic critic, was a key participant in the contest. Geert has been outspoken against the Qur’an, liking it to Mein Kampf and trying to have it banned in the Netherlands. His stance and beliefs have made him popular with the far-right, particularly in the United States. It’s also made him a target of Islamic extremists.
In his speech in Texas, Geert continued his tirade on Islam. And the attention caught the eye of the Palm Beach County Republican Party, which scheduled an August $125-a-plate dinner featuring him as keynote speaker.
Supporters of the Texas contest have lauded Geert and contest organizer Pamela Geller as champions of free speech, while critics say they incite anti-Muslim sentiments.
On Wednesday night, Geller appeared on Fox News’ Sean Hannity’s show and faced off with an extremist Muslim cleric who said Geller should be put on trial. Hannity screamed at the cleric that he wants to kill Geller. The segment went on for ten minutes with all parties shouting at each other.
It’s this kind of rhetoric, coupled with the events in Garland, that have moved the event to be canceled.
Boca West Country Club’s chairman of the board, Bob Locke, said they didn’t know who Geert was before accepting the reservation to host the event. But once they realized who Geert is and about his ties with the Muhammad drawing contest, the country club cited safety reasons for the cancellation.
“At the time the reservation for the dinner was made, no one in management or in the catering department at Boca West knew the identity of the keynote speaker,” he said per the Palm Beach Post. “Due to potential safety concerns associated with Mr. Wilders’ appearance, we have elected to cancel the reservation for this private event.”
The Palm Beach Republican Party has yet to make a statement or announce if the event will be rescheduled at another venue.

What they should do is write down on the program a DIFFERENT address than the one planned so that when people get to the one that was planned, they will pick up the program and be informed to go to a different address that is not advertised. They can hear Geert speak and not be bothered by muslim infidels.

I don’t sit on any fences. I fully support Geller and Wilders. I see no way to take care of an elderly family member and attend life threatening events. What would you do? I suspect many or most people feel the same way. I admire people who have the courage to attend these events. I just don’t happen to be one of them.

People would arrived at the advertised address to hear Geert speak, but instead of staying, they would go to the secret address on the program (or to an address told to them) where they can hear Geert speak without interruption by muslim infidels.

“I won’t have to hold these events when I don’t require armed security to hold them”….
In the meanwhile, this IS America.
As such, we need seriously armed security and the events should go on and on and on…..until armed security is no longer required.

And when we have businesses like this country club denying themselves and their patrons the right to free enterprise, then we have a thuggery that must be dealt with. If organized crime did what islam is doing, our law enforcers would be all over it, at least we would hope. Hard to believe the CC didn’t know about Geert before scheduling him to speak. They are not telling everything. Probably got a few threats from the loonies and chickened out. Too bad. I would think that rich people could afford to hire a security outfit and deal with any attempts to mess with the speech. What is needed are more people willing to let people like Mr. Wilders speak. I guess Pamela Geller will have to have her events in open air public places where she can get a city, county permit, since if the owners of buildings, commercial properties do not wish to have the risk and legal and financial liability of her events of racists, bigots being targets of Muslim assassins and bombers it might be her only option to keep that revenue stream rolling in to support her life style as Queen of the Islamic haters of America!:-) I am wondering how long it is before she is in the news again, I mean one can only spew so much racism, bigotry till it becomes wore out and boring!

It’s very troublesome, and disturbing, when people are too afraid to host an event discussing ‘free speech’. It only shows that the radicals are winning the battle to curb free speech. The country club members showed their willingness to give up their right to free speech by cancelling this event. I’m sure the Palm Beach Republican Party supports free speech, so why are they preventing this message from getting out to their members by suppressing freedom?????? We’ll lose as a society, if this is allowed to continue. Don’t you hate the idea of losing your freedoms to a group of backwards, unsophisticated, narrow minded jihadists??? Here in America, the richest, most powerful country on the planet, is shaking in its boots for fear of offending muslims, who offend us in the worse way – with the FEAR of physical harm. And now Pam Geller wants Homeland Security to assign her a personal security detail. I’m all for freedom of speech, but why should the American taxpayers who do not support Pam’s Islamaphobic Art contest have to pay to protect her after she throws gasoline on a fire?
I say to anyone who wants to sponsor hate disguised as constitutionally protected freedom, knock yourself out!
Just don’t expect taxpayers like me to foot the bill for every SWAT team and FBI investigation that follows as a result. If you want to incite hate, YOU pay the bills for it…including medical bills and insurance for anyone caught in the crossfire, like this school guard was.
Pam Geller should pay for the ambulance ride, the hospital bed, the medical cost, the surgeon, and any lost salary that security guard experiences as a result of her irresponsible expression of free speech….just like she would be charged for yelling FIRE in a crowded theater.
And NOW she wants us to pay for her security detail ALSO? Give me a break!

Pam’s freedom of speech ends where MY right to LIFE, LIBERTY and HAPPINESS begins! Why should innocent civilians caught in the crossfire of Pam’s personal war mongering have to pay the bills for her mess?

May this be a lesson to the attendees: Next time don’t attend. This was *not* an exercise in free speech. This was an event designed to illicit a hostile response, like yelling FIRE in a theater. Congratulations! You proved that such events are unsafe to the general public. You should probably expect to have fewer than 3 attendees next year.
PS: As of May 4, 2015 at 2:00am Central Standard Time, there is no evidence that proves the gunmen were even Muslim. For all we know they were a couple of white evangelical Americans hoping to create a false flag who got stopped in their tracks.

I am absolutely fine with Pam paying for her own security detail. I am NOT FINE with her expecting tax payers to foot the bill for the ADDITIONAL security she is hoping DHS will pay for.
