Tommy Robinson, Kevin Carroll, Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer Breaking with EDL

52

GELLER-SPENCER-570
The Fab Four

Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll are announcing their departure from the English Defence League. This move has come after many months of deliberation and many years of constant efforts by Robinson and Carroll to prevent the EDL from being infiltrated and co-opted by racists, anti-Semites, fascists, neo-Nazis, and far-right elements. Increasingly, Robinson's time has been taking up with patrolling and policing EDL demos to keep out these infiltrators and far-right ideologues. He has decided, and my AFDI colleague Robert Spencer and I strongly endorse his decision, that his time is better spent working for the defense of England and human rights against Sharia and Islamization in different and more effective ways.

This has been a long time coming. Back on June 30, 2011, I wrote: that because of the "neo-fascists that had infiltrated the administration of the group," I was "withdrawing my support from the EDL." Tommy Robinson immediately issued a statement to SIOA, saying: "We repudiate any individual, group or writing that favors anti-Semitism,
neofascism, and any race-based ideology. Any rogue elements within the
EDL who go against our mission statement and our beliefs will be removed
from the organization; we are determined to remain true to our mission.
Anti-Semitism will not ever be tolerated within the EDL."

Story continues below advertisement

These statements drew the ire of some counter-jihad bloggers who apparently didn't mind the racists and anti-Semites within the EDL, and who addressed an Open Letter to me denouncing me for drawing back from the EDL. But a huge group of counter-jihad bloggers declared their support of our stand. When Robinson assured us that he was just as concerned about these elements as we were, and was working to root them out of the EDL, we continued to support the organization.

Now, over two years later, it is clear to all of us that the best way to proceed is to leave the EDL behind and move forward in new directions. This shows the utter mendacity and bankruptcy of the leftist and Islamic supremacist claim that our support of the EDL demonstrated that we ourselves were racists and fascists — as if that weren't clear enough already. It also exposes the backstabbing and skullduggery of those in the counter-jihad movement who excoriated us for raising these entirely legitimate concerns. Our struggle in AFDI and SION, which continue to stand with Robinson and Carroll, is now and has always been for the freedom of speech, the freedom of conscience, and the equality of rights of all people before the law. We look forward to working with Robinson and Carroll in the future as we continue this great struggle for freedom.

Okay, then I take back my angry words to TR on the other thread (I have to vent somewhere). I trust you Pamela. I didn’t trust what I saw this morning – leaving everyone hanging in the balance, not knowing and then witnessing Quilliam patting themselves on the back was also very worrying (<----- sorry but I do not trust them either atm, and if it is true that Moansar is in on this too (as he is implying), then I will just hang up my coat and call it a day).

“God help the UK”. We’re an old nation , we have a racial basis but we’re not allowed to defend ourselves without being abused by people using the highly questionable term “racist”. My nation is experiencing genocidal levels of immigration , our culture has been subverted and our people ethnically cleansed from most major cities.
When you say UK..what do you man. What meaning does UK have for you? If I said ‘Israel’ you’d think of the Jewish peoples homeland..aren’t we allowed one?
The administrative arm , the government, is not the Nation.
Can we only defend England according to another ethnic groups idea of what and who we are and whats “acceptable”? Would any other group accept those terms?

I’d like to know why Tommy Robinson has joined the pro-Hamas/PA anti-Israel group Quilliam that supports a judenrein “Palestinian” state and the destruction of Israel. Surely THAT is way more ‘nazi’.

I have not followed the EDL closely, but I’ve had a sense of uneasiness about them. So I’m glad to see this development, and hope that that part of EDL that deserves the support of supporters of AFDI can reconsitute itself into an effective organization. Anyone for EFDI?
AFAIAC, if Robert and Pamela (P & R) are still behind Tommy and Kevin, then I will follow their lead and wish EDL’s erstwhile leaders well (and perhaps contribute financially in a small way to them). I think it is notable and laudable that P & R support a controversial movement led by plain spoken, blue collar leaders who may not present the sauve, sophisticated, polished image. Intellectuals have often disdained the properly motivated efforts of the “common man”, and AFDI’s leadership has avoided doing that. Tommy and Kevin have a constituency for their message, and God bless ’em.

I don’t really see neo-fascists as right wing. On the extreme right you have anarchists who believe in no government. On the left you have statists who believe in government control of everything. Fascists believe in massive government control. Liberty lovers believe in very small government. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but I see no sense in letting the left call these anti-semites right wing.

I am unfamiliar with Quilliam Foundation, and the name Maajid Nawaz is new to me. Nawaz has a book promoted on his web ( Radical – My Journey from Islamist Extremism to A Democratic Awakening) that suggests he has undergone a considerable transformation. Some of the most effect and articulate people in the history of the defense of liberty have made it their mission to atone for youthful sins.
Here is a link to a promotion of Nawaz’s book:
http://www.quilliamfoundation.org/blog/radical-my-journey-from-islamist-extremism-to-a-democratic-awakening/
He sounds to me like a man worth listening to.

I totally support whatever position you take on this, but I am shocked, and I sure hope these two folk heros and brave souls continue with this work.
oh my gawd……I am shocked, but perhaps they will come up with an even better plan and focus…as their groups have been infiltrated with the far right extremists and this has caused all sorts of issues for them, and for all those who struggle to keep freedom of speech, and the values of free democracies.
I will always be an EDL supporter in their cause, their philosophy, and their intentions
Both these guys are folk heros in my estimation and history will
confirm this, Bravo to the work they have done, bravo to both men and their families who have suffered with them during their struggle. A peaceful existence will ever happen between savages and civilized societies.
Their loss in this movement is a signal to keep vigilant and never surrender, to continue to fight the infiltration of islamic ideas in our societies. Bless those good ol boys, Bless them and all they do…And bless you Pamela, you and Robert, your struggle and your dedication to this cause defines you as heros.

Meanwhile in the real world Islam goes from 3% of the British population to 5% since the last sentence.
This is a demographic war, it’s not exactly a theological or ideological issue. Robinson was hounded by the traitorous British state and he announced this resignation at the Quilliam Foundation in a rather rather pussified context of Nawas crowing about his conversion to peaceful politics. It’s not like the EDL were violent either. The UAF counter protests were astonishingly violent by contrast and the level of anti-Brit sentiment in the ranks of the UAF is rabid. I can’t blame him for buckling though, the power of the crown is immense and the dangers he faced from Pakistanis was tremendous. I hope he takes a well deserved break from activism and goes back to ordinary life.

I would like to believe Nawaz is as he now presents himself. The history of the defense of liberty is replete with former totalitarians. Is your suspicion grounded in anything specific, or simply a general suspiciousness of redemption? If it’s the latter, I have some names for you:
Saul of Tarsus, Whittaker Chambers, Frank Meyer, Mosab Hassan Yousef.

The British government as it exists today is fascist in certain ways. No one asked the subjects of her madge if they wanted to hand over London to a teeming mob of Muslims. No asked if it would be okay to have the Muslim population increase from 3% to 5% over the last decade. The Queen never mentioned the plan in her speeches, no prime minister bothered to mention it.
I can’t blame Robinson for backing off though. At the end of the day the government was going assassinate him in character or physically. This is a great moment for the Muslims in the UK. A guy who looked like a champion has been intimidated into silence and possibly cut a deal in exchange for this denunciation of his own group.

Dan
Dan

The state crushed Robinson’s street protest group.
That is what happened. Quilliam is a moderate front for forced demographic changes.

Dan
Dan

I agree. The core of Zionism is that Jews get to have a state for themselves. So that they are not subjected to the will of a potentially hostile majority. What is happening in Europe and the US is the deracination of the people there. right now this is accomplished by importing Muslims in huge numbers. It is undeniable.

fern
fern

I agree, Quilliam in my books can not be trusted – we’ll probably find out at a later stage they are a MBH front – this would not surprise me. Jeesh, think back a moment, the UK are already harbouring MBH and then a few weeks ago the UK government were about to join a war on the side of those who in a blink would put a knife in your back, the UK were supportive of Morsi. Not for one moment do I believe Quilliam which are full of ‘ex’ islamic extremists have turned over a new leaf.
I hope Tommy and Kev know what they are doing – I hope to god they don’t take guidance from Quilliam. And wtf did they have to go to Quilliam to sort out their resignation? The majority of the EDL are not racists, extremists, nor nazis or antisemitics – they are normal concerned citizens – so I feel sorry for those left in the EDL who now feel lost and brandished.

Maajid Nawaz is an ex extremist. His ‘foundation’ have been subsidized to the tune of over one million pounds of taxpayers’ money. Furthermore, and remarkably the MBH announced they are moving their offices to London. Could it be people behind the scenes want this to go unnoticed, thus paying off the EDL leadership to declare they’re disbanding is a convenient way of limiting public awareness of this outrageous scenario from taking place?

Comment on this topic, thread at Jihad Watch:
[Thomas Pellow]
It’s unfortunate that Robinson and Carroll have allowed the Islamic Quilliam Foundation to politically hijack their departure.
UK political class embraces the Islamic Quilliam Foundation(QF), which was founded by three ex-members of Islamic jihad supporting group, Hizb ut-Tahrir.
QF receives public finance from British government.
The Islamic QF opposes Geert Wilders, and supports campaigns for the wearing of the niqab/burqa in UK.
Quilliam is named after a Liverpool man who converted to Islam in 19th century. Note he was a supporter of imposing a global Caliphate.
‘Wikipedia’:-
“The foundation takes its name from Abdullah Quilliam, a 19th Century British convert to Islam who founded a mosque in Liverpool. This is an ironic choice since Abdullah Quilliam was an opponent of the British Empire and a supporter of the Caliphate. He also argued that Muslims should not fight Muslims on behalf of European powers, citing specifically Britain’s enlistment of Muslim soldiers against the resistance in Sudan. In all these respects his activities correspond to those that the individuals running the Quilliam Foundation today hold up as evidence of extremism.”

Joe-
I don’t want to spend a lot of time researching this. Your document does not seem like standard Muslim disinformation to me, and, while I’ve only scanned it quickly, I don’t see where it “blames Israel for the rise of islamism and islamic terrorism.”
Make it easy for me. Reference a particular section of your 15 page document to support your claim. Then dumb it down even more- give me a direct quote to support your contention.
Quilliam does appear to be a Muslim think tank. In and of itself, that doesn’t disqualify them from polite company in my book- from the paper you cite, I could even argue they’ve been influenced by Bernard Lewis (they seem to blame a lot of the ills of the region on colonialism). I would not expect them to be great fans of the state of Israel, nor would I expect their perspective to align closely with my own. Thus far I’ve seen nothing to indicate that they aren’t worth taking seriously.

Quilliam facilitates Tommy Robinson leaving the English Defence League
Posted in: 2013, Press Releases | October 8, 2013 at 08:47
Quilliam is proud to announce that Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll, the leaders of the anti-Islamist group, the English Defence League (EDL), have decided to leave the group. Having set up the EDL, infamous for its street protests, in 2009, they wish to exit this group, because they feel they can no longer keep extremist elements at bay.
Tommy Robinson said:
“I have been considering this move for a long time because I recognise that, though street demonstrations have brought us to this point, they are no longer productive. I acknowledge the dangers of far-right extremism and the ongoing need to counter Islamist ideology not with violence but with better, democratic ideas.”
Quilliam has been working with Tommy to achieve this transition, which represents a huge success for community relations in the United Kingdom. We have previously identified the symbiotic relationship between far-right extremism and Islamism and think that this event can dismantle the underpinnings of one phenomenon while removing the need for the other phenomenon.
We hope to help Tommy invest his energy and commitment in countering extremism of all kinds, supporting the efforts to bring along his former followers and encouraging his critique of Islamism as well as his concern with far-right extremism. We call all of Tommy’s former colleagues in the EDL to follow in his footsteps and also call on Islamist extremist leaders to follow this example and leave their respective groups. Tommy and Kevin believe the voice they have created can be channelled in a positive direction. Quilliam stands ready to facilitate such moves across the spectrum.
Quilliam Chairman and Co-Founder Maajid Nawaz said:
“As well as being a very positive change for the United Kingdom, this is a very proud moment for Quilliam. This represents not a change but a continuation for us, as challenging extremism of all kinds forms the basis of our work. We have been able to show that Britain stands together against extremism regardless of political views and hope to continue supporting Tommy and Kevin in their journey to counter Islamism and neo-Nazi extremism.”
We are hosting a press conference for Tommy Robinson and Kevin Carroll’s departure from the EDL at an undisclosed location in London today, 8 October 2013 at 6:30pm and will field all questions then. Entrance will be strictly conditional on the presentation of press passes; please contact [email protected] or call 020 7182 7275 or 020 7182 7278 if you would like to attend and more details will be provided but please do not RSVP if you are not press.

I agree with what you say Rob, and i don’t construe what you said as an attack on Fern who is a doughty fighter in her own right, the level of genuine frustration and even hatred i read now on UK blogs has increased substantially, this is understandable given the offensive being waged against ANY manifestation of what it means to be English or Christian by our government, from coins to official documents to rollockings from the Sharia pig force for tweets to halal to schools – you name it.
To suck up to these filthy kiddi fiddling Muslims, Cameron has now decided NOT to outlaw infanticide by abortion on female foetuses, this outrage goes on every day now in our hospitals, and ALL the Asians are getting away with it.
In my view, the whole of the UK that HAS been sold has been sold to our cultural enemies, the Gulf states and others, and like most here, i wouldn’t trust Quilliam further than i could spit, NO, this event will not stop the hoped for “blow up”, but we will have to fight the whole establishment PLUS the other lot.
We now have our new para military security and thought control police force, armed to the teeth and 5000 strong, they can boss all other forces around at will in order to prevent “Expressions of Resentment” from the prolls, {US, the white natives}.
P.S. I have a library of press cuttings going back to March 2005 about whats being done to undermine us, you don’t know the half of it on Atlas.
