Saturday Night Cinema: America, America

7

Tonight’s Saturday Night Cinema is
an extraordinary film by Elia Kazan. I have been searching for it for some time: America, America. Elia Kazan, in my mind Holllywood’s greatest director, made this film based on his family’s experience
under the dhimma of the Muslim Turks in interior Anatolia. It is the true story of his Greek uncle Stavros Topouzoglou’s struggle to flee Turkey. His family
left before the massive ethnic cleansing took place. The Byzantine
Greeks fought the Muslims since they reared their ugly head in the 7th
century. Sadly, the fight was lost in 1453 when Constantinople, the
richest, most prosperous European city, was taken by the jihadist savages.

It is a profoundly moving film. A masterpiece.

This film is the most poignant and realistic portrayal ever by Hollywood of the dhimmi condition. One of the world’s leading scholars on Islam, Bat Ye’or, recommends this film as an introduction to the study of dhimmitude for the masses….

Kazan’s 1964 film was nominated for three Academy awards: best director, best picture and best writing, story and screensplay adapted for screen.

“I am a Greek by blood,
a Turk by birth,
and an American
because my uncle made a journey.”

Apparently he is now not well liked in PC Hollywood because of his anti-communist stance. If memory serves some actors didn’t stand up when he got some award.Maybe those actors can go ply their trade in North Korea,Cuba and Venezuela. We’ll see if they can charge 10 0r 20 mil $ per movie.

This film completely blew me away when I first saw it in my late teens!!! I saw it alone and then sat through another showing, totally unable to leave. (Only one other film affected me that much: “The Lovers of Teruel” starring Russian ballerina Ludmilla Tcherina but not for the same reasons, of course).
I need to show my husband your review so that he’ll want to try watching it again–for some reason he didn’t want to finish it several years ago.

With every passing year this film gets LESS dated and more relevant. Elia Kazan never named ANYONE who was not already openly a communist. Kazan was angry at the party pimps and never forgave the Stalinist hacks who dominated the Group Theater and used smears, bullying, lies and black-listing against anyone who didn’t slavishly toe the party line. They did all that first and in spades.

This is a public service announcement.
Byzantine Greeks kindly request Turkish Muslims return Constantinople as Turkish Muslims are keen on land exchanges as indicated by Turkish support of the return of ‘Palestine’ to the ‘Palestinians’ though ‘Palestinians’ abandoned ‘their’ land because the Arab League told them leave until after the Arab army ‘helped’ Shoa surviving Jews back to boats (if boats there be) to Europe.
Thank you. Again, this has been a public service announcement.
