IOC did hold a moment of silence for Bosnian Muslims, but won’t do it for Jews murdered by Muslim terrorists

The extraordinary dhimmitude of the IOC (and by extension the EU) continues to surprise even the most cynical.

So they held a memorial for the Bosnian Muslims and not the Israeli athletes slaughtered in cold blood at the Munich '72 Olympics. Bosnian Muslims? What about the Serbian Christians who were slaughtered by the Bosnian Muslims? These elderly women are appealing to you.

IOC president Jacques Rogg, what about a memorial to the 1.5 million Christian victims of the Armenian genocide? These spineless, amoral miscreants make my skin crawl.

"Craven Silence on Munich at the Olympics" Jacob Heilbrunn, National Interest

The Obama administration supports it. So does Mitt Romney. The "it" in question is a moment of silence for the Israeli victims of a Palestinian terrorist organization called Black September at the 1972 Munich Olympics. Eleven members of the Israeli team were murdered. An online petition calling for a minute of silence also exists.

But IOC president Jacques Rogge sees it differently. He's adamantly resisting a formal moment of silence at the opening ceremony of the London Games this Friday: "We feel that the opening ceremony is an atmosphere that is not fit to remember such a tragic incident." When it comes to the Jews, the IOC curls into a fetal ball—as the Boston Globe points out, it has not resisted ceremonies for Bosnia or the victims of 9/11. But Munich is taboo.

[…]

The Olympics has a moral obligation to do better. It more than blotted its escutcheon with the 1936 games in Berlin, which the Nazis exploited to present a friendlier face to the world. The head of the American Olympic Committee was Avery Brundage who later became head of the IOC. Brundage successfully opposed an American boycott. Here is what the Holocaust Museum has to say about Brundage's stance:

He wrote in the AOC's pamphlet "Fair Play for American Athletes" that American athletes should not become involved in the present "Jew-Nazi altercation." As the Olympics controversy heated up in 1935, Brundage alleged the existence of a "Jewish-Communist conspiracy" to keep the United States out of the Games.

He thought Hitler was a great fellow and that the 1936 Olympics one of the greatest ever. The Brundage mindset was on display in 1972 as well, his last as IOC president. The games were suspended for thirty-six hours. "The Games must go on," chairman Brundage declared. So they did.

So the Olympics doesn't have a lot to live up to. It has a lot to live down. This year, the IOC isn't doing a very good job of it. It want to remain silent, in other words, about the importance of silence.

***There's [also] this RFE/RL photo gallery regarding Bosnia and the Olympics (11th of 14 photos…) Julia Gorin writes:

Bosnia olympic
The photo concerning Bosnia was taken at the 1992 summer Olympics when Yugoslavia (then consisting of Serbia and Montenegro) was hypocritically kept out of that Olympiad. With some understandable disgust, Serbs and Montenegrins saw a Croat team take silver in men's basketball, with the US finishing first. During this period, Yugoslavia appeared to have the second best men's basketball team after the US. At the 1992 summer Olympics, Yugoslav teams were banned and individual Yugoslav athletes were made to compete as independent participants, not representing their country. The reason for this was quite hypocritical. Yugoslavia was accused of aiding Serb forces in the Bosnian Civil War, at a time when Croatia was doing the same for their brethren. In addition, the Bosnian Muslim nationalists were the recipients of foreign aid (military and otherwise) from abroad.

One wonders how multiethnic was the 1992 summer Olympic Bosnian delegation? At the time, I recall the Bosnian UN delegation being almost exclusively Muslim.

Actually I am not surprised, since it seems most of the world officials have no moral compass whatsoever. I also want to add that we (the West) backed the wrong side in that conflict. We backed the Muslim invaders against the Christians whose land the Muslims had invaded. It was probably done with some naif idea that it would earn the West brownie points in the Muslim world, which of course it did not.

Considering that the asylum these days is run by the inmates, such acts of cowardice and absence of morals should not surprise us. It’s pathetic.

Hey, if the European Union styles itself as a political union, akin in their own eyes as a federation like the United States, then there should be ONE Olympic delegation of athletes from the EU, not delegation after delegation from each country. Massachusetts and Idaho don’t send separate delegations.
This same reasoning applies to “votes” in the United Nations (a despicable org. in which we should NOT participate). There s/b ONE vote from the EU.

Perhaps all arab/moslem countries should be barred from the Olympics. The Olympics is an entirely Western idea; the idea was that it should bring CIVILIZED peoples together.
Since moslems are uncivilized barbarians, they should be banned from the Olympics until they learn to ‘play purty’.

The head men at both the IOC and the EU, all wear sober suits, intended to impart an air of respectability and re-assurance, when they condecend to drop their pearls of wisdom on us labouring non-persons, toiling in the darkness of our ignorance, but as you draw closer to them, you first notice the unmistakable smell of corruption, then you notice, to your horror, those suits are filled with rotting flesh, heaving with maggots, the flesh falling away from the faces, leaving just the deaths head grin.
The corrupted bodies in those suits are as they are because they all lack the vitality that comes with morality. They wear the suits, strut and posture as gentlemen of profound and sober judgements, but beyond corruption, there is nothing there.
